Death Stranding seems to be based on WW2 with the setting in the trailer being an alternate reality/universe where WW2 ended the world with Death Stranding being a reference to the men dying on the beach at Normandy or something like it.

Why would you? I've seen them around on backpacks and stuff, but other than that morale patches in general don't have a lot of mileage in typical civilian application. When I was still in the military, I gave some as gifts and traded others, received some as well, of varying degrees and know for a fact that people innasandbox wear them as soon as they can't see the flagpole. If you don't feel compelled to own or create them, that's really all there is to it. The draw to them is similar to the customization of a firearm, that you're bringing a product into existence, for the creator with profit being a nice aside. For a consumer, it's something akin to acquiring any good that you value, such as a particular type of knife, and may be effected by subjective reasoning such as memorialization. I'm more of a fan, for a given series, of acquiring an item FROM that series rather than just a patch.

An example of this would be a Trenni silver coin from Spice and Wolf, for example, or an HK USP9 from MGS2, or even the arcade tokens that a character in Railgun uses as ammo. I have that last item and a Kerotan frog from MGS3 as examples of ways that I've followed through on it.

For myself, I'm attracted to patches because they're an interesting mode of self expression, a little bit but mostly due to these threads. If it weren't for these threads specifically, even if all the same patches were available commercially, there's no fucking way I would buy this many. Wearing them is rare and basically reserved for faux-PMC shit like MSF patches, Anglosphere, and Fuck Anime, which are all worn for the same reason historically men have decorated any of their gear. Engraving armor, putting a figurehead on your ship, naming your sword, so on and so forth.

TL;DR
They're fun to design and I like them. If you don't, noone would hold it against you and we all would understand completely.
