Bug-in equipment...

In my country the local authorities have recently started informing the public about the need to be self-reliant and being able/equipped to care for yourself for at least 72 hours in the event of some natural disaster or other crises. The effects would be disruption of electricity, water utilites, logistics/transportation, food supply, central heating...

Ok, so anyway I've been going over what sort of materiel I need to manage ok where I currently live, which is an apartment in a mid-sized town. I figure I need this:

Water storage, containers
Field kitchen/stove
Portable radio
Candles
/g/ stuff: solar cell "mat", powerbank for charging up various electronics

I already have a food supply to last me for days, possibly even weeks.

Does /k/ have any ideas about more things that could be very useful for managing during a crisis?

Porno mags.
>>
>>33114557
Add some buckets with lids to shit in and your list is good to go. Or stockpile a lot of water that you can use to flush your toilet with if your water service goes out, but water would be better used for drinking.
>>
>>33114569
Thanks, this is actually a really valid point. Hm, but how is a disaster-proof porno collection achieved...?

Just a few mags seems measly.

>>33114579
I'll think about this too. What are common terms for "shit buckets" so I can search the net and buy that?
>>
>>33114685
5-gallon bucket with a lid.

Stockpile TP too, so you can trade with people.
>>
>>33114557
Batteries
Lighters & lighter fuel
Painkillers, antiseptic/antibiotics, bandages and other medical items
Warm clothing
Hexy blocks/solid fuel for cooking if gas is turned off
A decent toolkit
A decent sewing kit
A couple of jerry cans that can be filled with fuel or water
>>
>>33114706
Hell yeah bro

TP's gonna be straight cash when SHTF.
Broads will do anything for TP.

Shot buckets are a good idea, I also suggest wood chips or kitty litter to put over the layers of poop.

A coleman lantern and 5 or 6 extra mantles 8s good idea, have enough tanks for a week of light. A cheap adapter can be had to refill tgevluttle tanks from the big ones, you can have 4 or 5 little tanks and 1 big tank youll have enough gas for lightibg for near a month if you are mindful of use and keep it on low.
If you are going to cook with a coleman stove remember to have decebt ventilation as alot of monoxide will build up. So have a diffrent plan ifvyou fear NBC attack

Fucking mobile, excuse my typos

You should increase your book collection and add in some additional bottles of booze, multivitamins, and upset stomach/diarrhea medicine.
>>
>>33115010
>I also suggest wood chips or kitty litter to put over the layers of poop.

Would plain ordinary sand or dirt work?
The simpler the better, just digging up some sand from the nearby surroundings would be much simpler.
>>
>>33114579
>>33115010
>>33115344
I'm thinking about the excrement part...

Shit and piss together is a really unpleasant combination.
If I would have one bucket for each (and use sand) , would that be a smart solution?

The pissing bucket would just serve as a potty, i.e. whenever I can't be bother to go out into the woods to piss.

inb4 /k/-approved piss bottles
>>
Is there any reason the sewers would stop working? I mean yeah if power goes down it'll be hard to flush but hell if you have a rainwater collector or a well then you could flush with a bucket, just remember to bring one.

Is this not a viable possibility?

Who can't do 3 days without help. God damn. Build a camping kit and it's the same thing. For extended periods Coleman is nice. Water. water. Water. Purification shit. Aka camping supplies. Food. Have a 30 pound sack of beans and 30 pounds of rice with a sams size Crisco. Literally you are talking about camping and having some extra food. This isnt hard. God damn. Bug in is easy as fuck

wat?
>>
>>33115592
Well water pumps won't be able to pump water into the tank... Use a little logic here
>>
>>33115592
Some cities water supplies are pumped in, where I live its gravity fed but some its not.
Also if you live on the 10th floor its probably gonna give out
>>
>>33115629
Even gravity fed will only last so long, unless yours is fed by rainwater. It'll still require a pump to push it up to the gravity tank.
>>
>>33115647
I read a end of the world book series (emberverse..dies the fire) and while its full of wiccan crap it is well researched, apparently Seattle has a water system that can run sans any power for many years, but as a major city its the exception not the rule.
>>
>>33115668
Honestly I'd have to see it to believe it.
>>
Does anyone have a list of the shitty states that class rainwater as state property?
>>
>>33115732

Google.com

Has pretty much every list you need.

Where can I get a good supply of non-digital, SHTF-proof, porn?
>>
>>33115799
Gas station
>>
>>33115732
That's not what was happening in that case. The faggot was diverting a creek out of other peoples property and into his own, then claiming that it was rainwater and there was nothing illegal about it.
>>
>>33114557
lighters, lots of them, buy a big 500 bulk box of cheap lighters.

if they think something is going to happen, i would buy more food than a couple days worth if you plan on bugging in.

water purification, and ways to collect water.

id also start looking into legal to own weapons, or weapons you can readily make once there is no law.

Kidding aside, realistic shtf scenarios won't be told with stories of pumps and #thisbourgeoisepenthouselifestyleyo. Your days of shitting in a camode are now memories. Dig a shit pit, make sure it's deep and for the slower ones, nowheres near a water source. Like dood sed:
>>33114579
Won't be long before you figure out using water to flush a toilet is braindead stupid.
As for a water source, you'll be on top of one (well w/ rope n bucket) or ability to source/fill/transport enough containers. Protip: those water trucks on construction sites hold a fukktonnes of the nectar. Like 20k gal. Just add tabs, pool shock, 10xlifestraw endonend, w/e and you gud.
OP - After you have workable 72hr solution(s) keep on it. Don't stop there because the authorities said so. You'll thank yourself.
>prepare for the worst, hope for the best
Extrapolating into ever more extreme situations will not only better prepare you for them, but also reveal flawed planning in existing measures.
>If a disaster takes basic utils offline how to know the extent?

>Won't be long before you figure out using water to flush a toilet is braindead stupid.

That's why I said water is best used for drinking. If there's an ice storm projected to roll through my town I have 120 gallons of water storage I fill up to flush my toilet, completely separate from my drinking water reserves. I've never been without water for more than 24 hours so I hardly see any reason to go full bug-in and start drinking my own piss for subsistence.

>>33114557

>>
>>33115010
> A cheap adapter can be had to refill tgevluttle tanks from the big ones,

You can also get an adapter with a 6 foot hose so you can run your stove, heater, or lantern directly from the bulk tank.

Keep a half dozen of the little 1 pound bottles in case you have to travel, have 2 or 3 of the 20 pound tanks on hand for bugging in.
>>
>>33117211
Well obviously if you have a limited supply then drink it. But my original idea was if you have overflow (I.e. you have a well and access to a near constant supply) is there a reason you couldn't just use a bucket to flush your toilet?

Again as long as you don't have a septic tank, public sewers only.
>>
>>33117328
If you have a well you probably also have a septic tank. I'm on city water which is why I stockpile water for anticipated outages, but the city usually puts a generator on the distribution system pumps so I've only had to use stored water to flush once in my life.

That Hindu liquor store on 4th St, right across from the courthouse. They must have close to 80 linear feet of shelf space dedicated to porn mags. Looks like they cater to most of the niches as well as mainstream.

>>33117365
I know that place, but it is a gas station that is a good hour from any civilization

Depending on if you have space I'd get some wood boards and long screws to secure doors and windows. It was a great deterrent from looters during katrina and helped keep the weather out somewhat.

Also, look around for solar light cords. It will save on batteries and keep you out of the dark during the night.
