Is it a pump action? How would magazine loading work on a pump action? Also it seems like if it were pump there wouldn't be enough room for the pump to actual cycle a shell.

Nah, it's a semi-automatic that just looks like it has a pump-action and a tube magazine because reasons.
Also, Bethesda did manage to make a combat shotgun model that actually looks vaguely feasible for Fallout 4, so it turns out they are capable of learning.

This is so fucking dumb. They have tons of out-world guns lying around, they should be able to very easily reverse engineer and making workshop copies of them. Chinese craftsmen did it all the time during the Chinese civil war, or what they've been doing in the Khyber Pass for fuck knows how long. Take a dude with some basic machining skills and equipment you could find in some dudes garage workshop and he could with time make reasonable copies of guns. Does Bethesda ever do research?

The lack of weapon variety in the game was one of my biggest complaints actually. There's only 3 handguns, 4 "rifles" and exactly 1 SMG. This shit makes looking for loot a hell of a lot more boring and the whole "just Bubba your gun's shit up!" mechanic was the laziest excuse ever. They were even so lazy that they just made the hunting rifle convertible into a sniper rifle even though there's already an existing .308 sniper rifle pattern that's been used since the Black Isle studios days. Also who the fuck thought the "assault rifle's" design was a good idea. It makes zero sense at all and doesn't even look like something out of the 50's.

And to add insult to injury, modders can't even make custom reload animations for mod weapons so all their creations just end up looking like shitty reskins.

Bethesda completely butchered guns in Fallout 4 and this greatly triggers the /k/ommando in me. They learned absolutely nothing from New Vegas.

there's a raider fight club and a raider robot race track, which immediately turn hostile to you. Theres a billion farmsteads and settlements, which all give you the same "kill baddies" quest. Theres an at least semi competent mercenary group that controls a vault, that is always hostile. There is so much Bethesda could have done with what they made, and they didn't do anything.
