Can some one who knows little bit more about this tell me how Rhodesia actually was? I'm getting into the book anon above posted but it's only vaguely covers the topic. The rest of the western world was only just out/in the civil rights movement. What grounds could they stand on and condemn Rhodesia for acts they were very recently guilty of? Especially given how new a country Rhodesia still was. All of this leads me to believe the either a) Rhodesian segregation was harsh and blacks were severely mistreated. Or b) it stemmed entirely from the receding imperial mindset of the west. And that left to there own devices Rhodesia would have eventually followed suite with fully equality.

Because it was the main service rifle? The G3s and AKMs were only used by second line units and special forces. Thus 90% of pictures and accounts of the Rhodesian armed forces include the FAL.

It's the same way the M16 is associated with Vietnam, it's the main weapon you see so most people forget the other rifles used.

If you read any of the texts from the founding fathers of the United States they found education and understanding of the spirit of the Republic to be essential, which is why we have representative government and why voting was limited to land holding males up till Jackson.
If black majority rule was instantly handed over you would end up exactly like any of the other failed post colonial states.
Rhodesia had the only proper model for decolonization that had a chance of being successful, instead African countries are enslaved to international banks and reliant on aid.

It was an agricultural state, very different to South Africa which actually had a diverse economy. It was essentially rural England and they had a very English mindset and way of approaching things.

I went twice. Didn't think much of it. The people were alright, better than Saffas, but just farmers who were very politically naive. South Africans were a lot closer to what I think people are looking for, in that it was a proper country with a strict racial order. A lot of the Rhodesia hands had a different outlook on everything, especially politics. The interactions and difference in attitudes between the Anglo Africans and the Afrikaners was stark.

Was it better then than it is now? Absolutely. But no one here would have liked it. Hard, isolated, backward and completely without hope by the 70s. Even the countries around it in a similar boat found them impossible to work with.

I'm basing my theories off of what Chinese generals are taught. Majority of Chinese texts talk about how expanding your land area is as good as suicide for your nation.
