Should I buy a factory new Jericho 941, or an older military surplus?

I'm 100% sure I'm going to buy a Jericho 941 F by the end of the week, except I don't know anything about the newer models. Some anons in the /k/ archive were complaining about a keyring on the grip in the newer models.

So should I buy a factory new model or an older military surplus? This is a gun I'm going to pass on to my great-grandchildren, please help me decide!

I've noticed that rounds that have been chambered by my 1911 are slightly shorter than ones that haven't been. I assume the projectile is being pushed back into the case slightly. Should I be worried by this? Could it cause overpressurization?
>>
>>33095417
Yes it can. Usually they get pushed back from multiple rechamberings, so them moving from a few is odd.

Toss them, $0.50 of ammo is not worth your gun asploding. Shoot or toss rounds you rechamber more than a few times.

I found a S&W 5904 in great condition with 3 mags for $350 OTD. How do they compare to the 5906? I prefer the all-stainless, all-steel feel of the 5906, but I won't turn down a good deal if the alloy frame works just as well.

I don't remember modern production Jerichos having the keyring, going off stock photos. If you don't mind the slide mounted safety and the redesgin, Magnum Research Jerichos are pretty good too.

Last I saw a space cowboy Jericho it was going for around $1000+. The grip you want was made by a Japanese air soft company named Poseidon, only 200(?) were made.

>>
>>33096200
But why? Is it an inertia thing- more mass means slower acceleration so it allows more gas to push out through the barrel? If so, why not make the spring stronger? Would the action be too fast then?
>>
>>33095122

What exactly are you asking here?
>>
>>33096233
Do early 941Rs really go for that much? I wimped out of some recent auctions for a few that both went for ~$650 since I thought they only went up to $500-550 within reason. I'd be kicking myself even harder if that's the case.
>>
I want a halfway decent red dot to put on my LE6920.
What's the short list under $200?
I hear Holosun thrown around a lot, but I have no clue what the differences between all their models are.

>>33096060
Unless you have a hard-on for stainless steel boat anchors, the 5904 is probably better due to the alloy frame.. The 5906 weighs a ton, even by all-steel standards.

>>33096159
Can't be a space cowboy with a big honking rail ruining the lines of the front end either.

What determines whether you shoot right or left handed?
Dominant eye or dominant hand?
>>
>>33096889
>>33095122
Agreed. Single shots are a lot of fun. If you ever get a pump or coach gun, you can cut it down into a goofy shot pistol too.
>>
>>33097335
Handguns just hold with whatever you're more comfortable with and aim with your strong eye.
Long guns should probably be fired from whichever side your dominant eye is on.
Alternatively you can always close the eye opposite of your shooting side, but that costs you your peripheral vision. Keep in mind that pretty much all guns' controls are easier to manipulate right handed.

Anybody ever build one of the cheapo black powder kits? Seems like it might be fun.
>>
>>33100118
Aren't black powder guns more likely to explode if you build/load them incorrectly?
>>
>>33100127
yah if youre a retard and shove half a pound of powder down there
But really these kits are mostly prebuilt, it's not much more difficult than assembling an ar15, just takes some minor fitting.
>>
>>33100127
black powder isnt as touchy as smokeless
you can straight fuck up a powder charge and still usually be fine
>>
>>33100139
Cheap parts are also more prone to malfunction. I suggest you research carefully and read the reviews before you buy.
>>
>>33100127
You have to fuck up /really/ hard to make a BP rifle explode on you, basically by using smokeless powder or using a massive bore obstruction.

Even loading multiple balls or quintupling the recommended powder charge won't do it unless you use smokeless powder.

Smokeless powder however does get messy fast, and there is no "safe" amount.
>>
Double barrel shotguns for left handed people?
>>
>>33100179
So you pretty much have to be the most retarded, inbred Bubba to fuck up and load a muzzleloader with smokeless powder.
>>
I'm trying to decide on my next purchase, and I'm torn between two practical options of a lever-actiom repeater (30-30 or .357) or a 20 gauge double barrel shotgun. Yes, both fudd guns but that's what I'm feeling.

My only other immediate alternative would be an overpriced SKS at a local mil store.
>>
>>33100224
How overpriced is the SKS? What state? Is it bubba'd?
>>
>>33100218
Yeah. That's the primary way people fuck it up.

They figure "eh it's only a 9mm casing's worth of powder, and this is a rifle!" not realizing that smokeless and black powders act very differently when compressed.

As long as you don't do that or obstruct the barrel with, like, a red hot steel ingot or some crazy shit, these guns will take as much abuse as you could reasonably provide.
>>
Everything I've read about the M27 IAR suggests that you're still going to have one guy per fireteam acting as the automatic rifleman, and the other guys carrying some spare ammo for him, just like they would with a SAW. Once the weapons are at that level of similarity, would it start to make sense just giving everybody the M27? Just give each guy a few drum magazines in addition to their standard load of 30 round magazines, and have them just act in turns as the automatic rifleman? That way you wouldn't have to worry about whether or not it's safe to run over there and give him the extra ammo in the middle of a firefight.

Only that it could take years to dry.

How harsh you treat it kinda depends upon how nice it is or could be. If its a nugget, do anything you want. Hell, boil it in a trough. No loss if it disintegrates into pulp.

Typically, dents are steamed out. If the fibers are crushed/cut rather than just displaced, no amount of steaming, or even boiling, is going to bring it back to the way it was.

If someone asks you must say you are not a cop, and you shouldn't do anything cop like. If you wear it and shoot someone in self defense you're so fucked.
Removing it is all but entirely impossible without tearing that portion of the jacket apart. I suggest dyeing it if you feel you must, but I'd keep it as is.
If you're in Germany it's so illegal I'm amazed you need to ask.

1: Yes, Vertical stringing is more likely to be ammo, cheaper ammo will tend to string vertically. Horizontal stringing usually comes down to trigger control.

2: The shop in my home town had some rounds on the shelf, but they actually closed their doors today. Decided to retire. :( Other than that, I haven't seen it anywhere.

I just bought a Lee Enfield #4Mk1*. The trigger "flops" around a lot, even when cocked with a round in the chamber. The staging on the pull is normal but it's still very floppy.

Is this normal?
>>
>>33119899
A very nice piece. If I was interested in polymer it'd be that, a USP, or an FNX.
I myself considered the Beretta 92 variants, the CZ 75 variants, and the Hi Power. Settled on a CZ 75 SP-01.
Glocks are of course, very popular, as are 1911s. S&W makes a lot of nice semi autos too, far too many to list I say. The XD is pretty "in" right now amongst LEOs. SIG Sauer recently won the USmil contract with their P320(?) so that's worth looking into if you want a long parts availability life and wide aftermarket.

>>
>>33120080
Well comfort is all in the eye of the beholder, or rather the holder in this case. Go grab some guns. Comfortable shooting usually means a heavier, metal gun, but that is of course a less comfortable CC. That being said, any full size isn't so easy to CC.
The SIG Sauer P226, Steyr M9-A1, and 1911 are all lauded for their ergonomics. For home defense you'll probably want a rail for light mounting, fortunately both of the former have a rail and the latter can if you choose wisely. Which is the better shooter depends on who you ask but the M9-A1's trigger is a common point of complaint, not so for the P226 and the 1911 trigger is downright legendary. P226 is costly, and 1911 prices vary greatly - you tend to get what you pay for up to around 1500 USD. M9-A1 is quite cheap for how nice a gun you get. I have very little shooting time with the three though, only rented and never owned. Can't tell you about cleaning them.

Something else to consider is striker vs. hammer-fired.

If you want ease of use, strikers are usually considered better since it's just 1 trigger pull you have to figure out. Hammers are just fine and generally have nicer pulls in SA for range fun, and some people prefer to carry sitting on a heavy DA pull instead of relying on a trigger safety.

How do I reconcile my politics in this crazy day and age?

I like guns. I think preventing people from owning them isn't just a constitutional violation, but a human rights violation. But if I vote for the gun friendly party, I end up curtailing things like abortion rights, lgbt rights, etc. If I vote for the party that's good on those issues, I get my guns taken away. In both cases, I end up with a government mostly comprised of rich people for the benefit of rich people.

$500 is a good deal. I've been researching it heavily. $500 is what people want for used .357 sig versions because they are near unusable due to the ammo being shot by exclusively that gun.
Check the condition. Check the color of the rails. Google Sig rail colors to learn more about that. If it's in okay shape, that price is great.

Adding mass is more effective than adding a heavier spring.
Adding mass reduces felt recoil, makes the action feel smoother and less snappy.
Breech opening fractions of seconds slower technically allows more gas expansion but I'd assume the muzzle velocity increase is negligible.

It all depends on where the gas port is drilled on the barrel. From closest to chamber to furthest: pistol, carbine, mid, rifle. A 16" carbine and mid-length barrel will have gas ports in different areas. Ideally your buffer system should match the gas tube length, mix matching could cause short-stroking to too much reward bolt thrust.

Failing that, we're left with what aspects of policy are applicable in the least fallible manner, to be scrutinized and policed with utmost wariness of human nature.

Back to the original question, though, I'm uncomfortable with being a single issue voter. Is there no other way? Why does my 1952 SKS say "Made in Russia" on it in English? Was that typical of all firearms back in the day or is the lower receiver a new one? It says CCCP on it so I'd assume it was made back in '52 but I just want some clarification.

Sell your shit since you are nuts. Nuts doesn't get better. Find a different hobby.

I recommend motorcycling which is my primary hobby. Guns to me are tools. Motorcycles get you outdoors into fun, and while guns may get you laid by force that's not a recommended method.

Do not KYS with a firearm. That's a gift to the gungrabbers.

I've shot hundreds of shells through my Mossberg 500 without any issues. I use it for dove, squirrel, turkey, and skeet shooting. It only cost me $275 new if I remember correctly.

I've been wearing the same steel-toe Redwing boots for about 3 years now. I've gone through 4 sets of insoles so far but the boots are still holding up. I use them for working in construction and out on the farm/ranch. I'm pretty negligent when it comes to taking care of them; I only put shoe grease on them maybe 4-5 times a year and I'm constantly walking through water and mud while wearing them.

I didn't know these were a thing... I've been wanting a muzzleloading rifle so I can get an extra 2 weeks of deer season during muzzleloader only season. Is there any real benefit to building one of these kits over just buying a muzzleloader? Do you end up with a better gun for less money spent by buying a kit and finishing it out yourself?
>>
>>33100224
My dad has a S&W .357 revolver and a Marlin levergun in .357. It's a great combo so that you can have some ammo commonality for your guns. .357 is good for deer out of the lever action out to around 100 yards, it's a great brush / woods gun.

Does anyone here have any strong opinions/experience with the Springfield XDs? I've got a ranger buddy whose offering to sell me his .40 service model for $400-$425 mostly because he doesn't want to sell it to a faggot he knows is just going to resell it the second he gets his hands on it. I've never had my hands on one before and most reviews I'm seeing out there seem to be people going "I love it because it's not a glock"

So I just got a 10/22. What kind of accessories should I get for it?

My local post office is retarded when it comes to firearms so I never use them for anything even remotely gun related. 2 weeks ago I tried to ship a rifle back to FN for warranty work. I went to the post office and was told by the clerk that she didn't think they can ship guns so she went to ask her supervisor. Her supervisor came out and said that they can't ship any guns or gun parts and that if I tried to ship it through them that the postal inspector would confiscate it and I'd have to go through a lot of trouble to get it back..... Everything I read online says that a non-FFL holder can ship rifles and shotguns through the US postal service so fuck them.

I just use Fedex or UPS for anything firearm related now.

It's a rebranded Croatian HS2000. They're not bad, seem to be about as reliable as anything else out there. I handled Glocks, XDs, and M&Ps when I was looking for a full sized pistol and ended up going with the M&P because it fit my hand the best. I'd go try out a few different brands and see what fits your hand the best, if you like the feel of the XD then go for it. $400 is a good priced for a used one.

Question: I know Tula is corrosive and all that shit, but is it inherently less- accurate than other 7.62x54r rounds? With the tax return I'm thinking of ordering some PPU in 54r but I don't know if it's actually worth it, performance-wise. Thoughts?
>>
>>33137480
Tula is non-corrosive though isn't it? It even says "non-corrosive" on the boxes in your pic.

PPU should be more accurate than the Tula and you'll also be able to reload the brass or sell it as once-fired.

>>
>>33137571
Pay a machinist to make you a custom barrel to fit the SIG 556 using a barrel blank of your choice.

From my understanding, Beridan primers still have a corrosive effect on firearms. I could be wrong, though. Regardless, I'm fairly anal with cleaning so that isn't an issue. I just don't want to gimp myself when practicing with inherently inaccurate ammo.
>>
>>33137603
No, newer berdan primers aren't corrosive. Anything you buy from Wolf, Silver/Brown Bear, Tula, Golden Tiger, etc shouldn't be corrosive even if it's berdan primed.

Tula will be noticeably less accurate / consistent than PPU, but it will be 30%-40% cheaper as well. Depending on what rifle you have and how far you're shooting it may or may not be worth it. For hunting or accurately shooting 200+ yards then I'd definitely go with PPU over Tula but if you're just target shooting or plinking out to 100 yards then Tula would be fine.

1. How do I /operate/? Is it as simple as just looking up and reading about modern small unit tactics or is there a comprehensive guide somewhere?
2. Is there any taboo against using a full power battle rifle in the same roles as you would an attack rifle? (e.i. an HK417 instead of an M16A1, or a SCAR-H instead of a SCAR-L)
>>
>>33137679
Electric blasting caps. Was this a military range?
>>
Why doesn't the U.S. military just phase out 5.56x45 NATO already and do the full rollout on Remington 6.8 SPC already? Alternatively, will 6.8 rifles serve alongside rifles chambered for 5.56 or replace it altogether?
>>
>>33137725
Basically everything you just said was retarded in every possible way.
The only thing you got right was the definition of a battle rifle.
>>
>>33137750
Pretty sure it's not illegal to have blasting caps, I could be wrong though

Someone might've had a cannon of some sort out there and they were using blasting caps instead of cannon fuse to fire it.
>>
>>33137770
Why do you think I'm posting here where asking retarded questions is normal, so I don't make an ass out of myself in another thread?
>>
tbqh, if you don't know how to handle them, even if they are legal (and I'm honestly not sure because they contain honest to god high explosives rather than low explosives like cannon fuse), I'd just turn 'em into the PD. Nobody will write you up. They'll just send over HDS or EOD to put them in a canister and take 'em away.
>>
Shotguns were good for anything other than birds.
>>
>>33137772
Well after looking it up it is illegal to own blasting caps without the proper licenses and all, oh well.

>>33137805

You don't /operate/. Plain and simple. If you were to operate you'd want training typically done by SOF. Civilian for profit training is shit, don't even bother with that. If you insist on autistically emulating operators go ahead and use USSOCOMs old training guidelines. Everything from landnav to breaching. It'll be fucking expensive to set up your training course and even more so to get all the gear you need. I mean hundreds of thousands if not millions of dollars. Adds up real fast when it's your money and not taxpayer gibs. At the end of it you'll be a really shitty "operator" about on par with MARSOC at best if you really put your ass into it. What really defines these high end operators isn't just their personal skill, it's the intelligence and materiel support they receive from a billion dollar military which nobody can realistically compete with. These guys are good, sure, but without support staff they're basically at the mercy of sand people as they are always outnumbered. Most of the time they're attached to a normal unit for support in case their operational operations turn into a firefight.
There is absolutely no taboo against using a battle rifle and it is in fact recommended by many real operators including the current big cheese of the SEALs, vice admiral Philip Gardner.

Can someone explain what happens if one bullet in this baby fails to fire? Wouldn't the thing rip apart from one side of the slide trying to go back?

I'm no gun scientist but I speculate that it would just eject the unfired round at the same time it ejects the empty casing that did fire.

It'd short stroke. Only one round going off with 2 recoil springs and a double weight slide would be equivalent to a really soft load in a regular 1911- short stroking.
>>
What bullet weight is better in a 54r vepr? I've been using 148 grain for awhile, but I can get 174 grain for a little cheaper.
>>
>>33138300
Usually the heavier the better, muzzle velocity makes non-hot loads less accurate.

Newbie question
I just got my first gun (H&K VP9) about a month or so ago. Only had 2 sessions with it so far. Just ordered a 9mm bore snake and Hoppe's No. 9 Gun Bore Cleaner. What else do I need to maintain my gun? How often do I need to clean it? Some say after every time it's shot, some say more like every month or so
