The BR-55 is a rifle in service with the United Nations Space Command, the military arm of the United Earth Government.
The BR-55 is a magazine fed, short-stroke piston operated select fire rifle. It's chambered in the 9.5x40mm rifle round, a large caliber bullet.
Its effective range is 900M which is impressive for a heavy bullet like the 9.5.
Its magazine capacity is 36 rounds, which is VERY impressive for the size of the magazine. However, the 9.5x39 pays for this by being heavy, you can carry twice the amount of 7.62x51mm. Another issue would be the SEVERE recoil, as the 9.5x39mm is a supersonic round and the BR-55 is usually fired in burst mode, at 900 RPM which would make it completely unmanageable by baseline humans.
The best use of the weapon would be as a specialist weapon, akin to the VSS. Using a integral suppressor and subsonic ammo this weapon would be invaluable to ONI operatives and Spartans.
So /k/ if the BR-55 were real how would we develope a doctrine of use?

>So /k/ if the BR-55 were real how would we develope a doctrine of use?
We just give up and collectively kill ourselves.
You wouldn't. Large caliber rifle cartridges have already been out of favor for 120 years. It'd be some 6.5mm cartridge because that's the ballistic sweet spot.
>>33094171
maybe it's sabotted/subcaliber
>>33094171
External ballistics only.
Terminal ballistics are shit for every contemporary 6/6.5mm offering.
>>33093971
900 rpm is controllable in a burst fire setting. Most burst fire guns are actually have even higher rates of fire than that.
>>33094171
What about anti-material use? The wiki stated the 9.5 was intended for anti- vehicle use.
>>33093971
Would have been my favorite gun if not for being stuck on fucking burst 100% of the time.
>>33093971
Lol Halo kids and their shitty fps
>be bionic super soldier
>flip tanks with ease
>can't carry more than 6 pistol mags
>>33093971
Is that a FAMAS?
>>33094271
The lore is fucking retarded, but the FPS mechanics are top teir.
>>33094290
The lore is getting better. Not enough to convince me to buy an Xbone
>>33094218
Explain what you mean by this? Why would 6.5mm be a poorly performing bullet?
>>33094337
Because he erroneously believes that 6.5 doesn't actually inflict damage when it hits a target. Which is absolutely false since it's a tail heavy bullet and will yaw once it hits a target.
>>33094337
Its External Ballistics (Flight profile) vs Terminal Ballistics (Impact profile.)
What makes the 6.5 so stable in flight makes it ice pick through tissue.
>>33094358
Better tell all ballisticians they're wrong and sue whoever rigged the ballistic gel they used to somehow support their hypothesis. After all, an anonymous poster on 4chan says it's tail heavy and WILL yaw.
>>33094395
You know nothing of terminal ballistics
>>33094428
>He doesn't know that different bullet weights and designs can lead to different terminal effects.
You're retarded.
>>33094438
>6.5x50
>replaced by 7.7x58
>6.5x52
>replaced by 7.35x51
>6.5x55
>replaced by 7.5x55
You sir are retarded.
