But in what situation? Just long sword vs arming sword, assuming both combatants are perfectly matched skilled wise, the long sword has the clear advantage.

But neither were used that way. If you give the arming sword guy a shield, he has a clear advantage, if you give the long sword guy a suit of
Armor, he has the tremendous advantage.
