if you live anywhere close to a base, check craigslist and you can buy cases for probably $40-50 (that's 12 MREs).

Also check out local surplus shops and gun stores, the good ones will have them. Gun shows too, maybe, although I don't go to many of those.

yesterday while browsing an antiques stores surplus section i came across a first generation MRE.

>Beef slices in BBQ sauce
>crackers
>peanut butter
>freeze dried peaches
>cookie chocolate covered
>lemon lime powder drink mix

where to start

the beef had become one solid mass or at least was stuck together so much they were basically one monolithic chunk off beef. The beef it self was dry and the sauce was tomatoe which had developed a taste of pennies. However it tasted fine and seemed as fresh as they day it was put in.

it had gone bad and was no longer a powder but the smell was absolutely delightful.

fantastic for 35 years old but just standard crackers.

i was surprised to find it wasnt sweet and i enjoyed it when applied to the crackers.

These were a fantastic treat, first i tried them dry and was amazed by how rich and fresh they tasted. Then i added water to the other half and i was again amazed because when rehydrated it had the same taste and consistency of a canned peaches. which was a real treat.

wow i was just how well it had held up, it was sweet, rich, and fresh. The chocolate was truly fantastic and unlike modern chocolate it didnt have that acidic after taste like found in modern chocolate.

I think i used too much water, but it may have been the container i was drinking it from and the water i was using. The first sip was very smooth and delightful. If i were to have it again i would not add sugar.

As a guy who as eatn several boxes of those i can say that the kasha is shit.
Also eatn kasha made by the army in a fucked up huge tent in a fucked up huge forrest and that was also pretty fucked up.
basiclly can't eat kasha anymore, not even home made.
its like drinking too much shit quality vodka.

The gulash is pretty good though, and the cosmoline cheese.
