Trying to decide between the MK 17S and the X95, any input?
>>
>>33087260
why not a mk 16s?
if you can afford to shoot the 17s all the time, get that. greater range of use as it's low recoil enough for CQC, and has the necessary accuracy for 600y+ shooting

I love bullpups quite a bit, they accel in close range, and so does the .223. So with a .223 rifle I'm looking for something specialized in close quarters.

why not buy both? You're just going to plink with them at the range, you don't need to justify it any more than that.

I live in South Dakota, so the goal would be get to somewhere where I won't have to go through a winter and also have great hunting opportunity
>>
you forgot to mention the x95 is about half the price of a scar17 right now. also, i disagree with the idea that 308 is more abundant than 223/5.56.
anyway, the accuracy concerns is what keeps me away from the x95.
>>
>>33087574
well if you're just sticking around the house, ammo weight and rifle weight don't really matter. 5.56 can take down some game animals but .308 is much better. If there are only varmint animals around then 5.56 might be a better idea, but if there are larger animals like deer or hogs, you'd probably was .308 just for a cleaner kill.
>>
>>33087618
When it comes to this kind of stuff I really don't like cost to be a factor, just performance. The reasoning behind my belief that .308 could possibly be more abundant is more people own bolt actions than say ar15s, and the most popular rifle cartrage for hunting is .308

if you don't live near a big city and don't plan on traveling to one if SHTF, get the .308. If you think you might be wandering around some urban areas, there's really no beating the smaller package.

>>33088217
Damn good point, do you think hauling the 17s around urban areas and room clearing and things like that would be a huge issue?
>>
>>33087260

just get the SCAR 17, or the 16 if you want to go the middle ground.
>>
>>33087708

You're not wrong but the difference in abundance is negligible.
>>
>>33088282
It would certainly be worse than using the tavor. The way I see it if we're only looking at size, cartridge, and weight, the scar is clearly the better choice for living off the land. Abundant ammo, powerful cartridge, battle-tested design and whatnot. But if you're like me, living in a city like LA, then you know that:

lots of people + lots of buildings + big gun = fck
but:
lots of people + lots of buildings + smaller gun = still fuck but not as much.
>>
>>33088537
that being said, the 17 wouldn't be useless in a city, you'd just have to be a LOT more careful, and try to keep your engagements at a distance. And of course, you could pen walls with the .308, but I'm pretty sure you could pen most walls you would ever need to with the tavor as well.
>>
>>33088556

not as reliably, but yes, I suppose it's somewhat viable.
>>
>>33087260
For SHTF?
Neither to be honest senpai.
>>
>>33088571
Well, unless you go picking fights in a really irresponsible and irrational manner, there aren't many situations in which you'll NEED to shoot through a wall anyways, so that sort of dampens the effect of the .308.

So yeah. That's my verdict. Get the Scar if you plan on taking the living off the land approach, and the Tavor if you depend on a city for your survival, i.e. me. Although honestly, you should have at least one dedicated mid-long range rifle and one short range gun and one sidearm at least.

What's your input?
>>
>>33088817
Personally I would take a 13.7" AR with a titanium can and a solid 1-6 optic
>>
>>33088661

at that point why not just consolidate short range rifle and sidearm into a pistol caliber carbine to save weight?
>>
>>33087260

IMHO you can make up for the short comeings of the X95 with specialty ammo.

Assuming you got the right ammo the x95 wins hands down. (I mean, except at liek 1200 yards or some shit)
>>
>>33087260

Buy the scar.

Then listen to all the /k/ posts that shit on it.

Then sell it to me before you fuck it up too much for a cheap price.
>>
>X95
Enjoy your 5moa. Get an RDB and save up for a 17 with the leftover.
>>
>>33087260
>Ammo finicky
In what shit world do you live in that .308 is finicky?
>>
>>33087260

excellent list of pros and cons. I find it refreshing to see someone that is taking a long, hard look and really comparing their options instead buying the latest meme or what looks cool.

at this point I'd say flip a coin. if you like the results of the coin flip, you're good. if you it lands and you think SHIT well.... then you know you wanted the other one more. Know what I mean?
>>
>>33087452

>Also decide which rifles gonna be my go to if a SHTF scenario plays out

Learn some valuable skills, instead of daydreaming about guns you'll rarely have to shoot, if ever.

Anyway, go for the SCAR.

I don't plan to, but the scenario I'm thinking of would be SHTF, so if all I can find is steel case, I don't want issues of at all possible
>>
>>33087260
You seem to have a pretty good handle on the pros and cons. I'd say go with the SCAR, since it's easier to use a slightly longer gun for CQB than it is to shoot through light cover with 5.56 and because the ammo weight issue really only matters if you're carrying hundreds of rounds in loaded mags for the purpose of keeping a full auto gun fed.
>>
As I've said I really dont like for pricing to be a factor when it comes to this kind of thing, but here my overlay, just to show how I plan on adding to the rifles, any input?

You really don't want any of those.
If you're going to be running a 4.5-15x50 scope (why), you'll be better off with a real bipod.
There are better options than the PWS rail, e.g. the KDG MREX.
By all accounts the SAS is dogshit and nearly everyone who tries it goes back the the boot.
The SCAR has a very effective muzzle brake on it straight out of the box; the only reason to swap it out would be for suppressor mounting or if you wanted a flash hider instead.

> meopta meopro 4.5 14x50 500
Don't put a $500 scope on your SCAR. I don't care if you have to save up for it, get something nice, like a Swarovski Z8i or that 1-8x Accupower that Trijicon just put out.
>>
>>33087260
In event of shtf 5.56 will be more abundant as troops carry 5.56 and only small groups carry .308

Not to mention most autismos hording 5.56 will probably die from some completely foreseeable easy to explain reason, like starvation or food poisoning of dehydration lol

5.56, 9mm, .45acp, .308, and 12ga will be the most prominent ammo found.

But 5.56 >.308 for shooting and carrying.
Also the scar has a lot of problems like broke receivers, reciprocating charging handles, proprietary magazines......
>>
>>33087708
fudds don't keep a lot of hunting ammo.

Mall ninjas keep a lot of 5.56

Idk where you are getting that there are more bolt guns than ar-15's but that's just wrong as hell.
>>
>>33087260
tavor a shit. get a scar
>>
>>33099919
Think of your friends and family, how many have ARs? How many have .308 bolt guns? For none of my friends have an AR, but 4 have a .308 boltgun, of course that's just from my personal experience. But also I'm very certain, there's alot more hunters than mall ninjas
>>
>>33099736
What about an ACOG?
>>
>>33102444
Obviously a solid scope, but costs nearly as much as the aforementioned Accupower 1-8x and less capable.
Fixed magnification means you'll either be giving up CQB capability, locking yourself out of letting the .308 stretch its legs, or getting a compromise solution that's mediocre up close and far away.
The SCAR 17s is a gun that really begs for a high-ratio LPV, since it's equally comfortable in assault and precision roles.

SCAR 17 is an amazing rifle. I don't regret buying it. Its better for SHTF if you plan on leaving the city (which you should). I don't see that happening in my life so its a range toy that I shitpost on /k/ with. The x95 is ok, I shot one before but I guess its an aquired taste that I need to shoot more with to like it
>>
>>33087708
That may have been true 20ish years ago, but this is now and now the AR15 is the most popular rifle in the US. Literally every sporting goods store sells multiple varieties of 5.56/.223 ammo and mallninjas/prepers will have literal mountains of 5.56. If you don't already have an AR get that first then maybe get the Mk17.

Choice between 1/4x or 1.5/6x, kinda heavy, mandatory ARMS mount, expensive.
Unless you meant the SpecterTR, in which case: mediocre FOV on 1x, fucking heavy, fucking expensive, no QD mount.
I love the idea of switching instantly between commonly-used magnification settings instead of faffing about with an infinitely-adjustable zoom knob, but not enough to pay that much for it or tolerate their other foibles.

by the amount of shit coming out of that guys charging handle i'd have to guess this retard doesnt know how to take care of his gear.

>>
>>33102667
Or better yet a 14" barrel with a permanently-attached muzzle device, since the way the SCAR's barrel and handguard attach means that the only thing that marries you to is your gas block and muzzle device, and you only lose 1" against an SBR.
>>
>>33102744
