How unviable is this compared to other medieval weapons?

And what if it was being used by a particularly large and strong man

A big guy?

Depends on whom your fighting I suppose.
But at the end of the day it's the skill of the wielder that matters more than anything else.

I never heard the rampart drop across the moat.
>>
>>33085201
Fairly unviable.

One handed warhammers hit hard enough to injure through armor. A maul will hit harder, but your attacks will be a lot slower/easier to avoid. The increase of force isn't really worth it.

Can't really tell how heavy the shaft is or how long it is to off-set the point of balance. But it looks pretty bad.
>of course it is supposed to be heavy on one end
Wider swords mean extra cutting power. A Dane axe has plenty of cutting power because it was specialised to be a cutting weapon.
Pic is of a Dane axe. Notice the size of the steel used in the axe head.
What you have posted OP, would be criminally unwieldy. But it is a fantasy weapon.

Hammer face isn't textured.

It will just glance off plate most of the time.
>>
>>33085201
The hammer itself is too big. You need a small head in order to actually swing it fast enough to matter, and with a small enough surface area to smash through a man's skull.
>>
I can't remember where, but I've heard of heavy hammer being used as a thrown weapon to break shield walls. May be where the modern hammer throw event started.
>>
>>33086941
didn't happen bro
>>
>>33085201
I think that if you got a knight pinned on the ground by one or two of your mates, you could use that to cave their helmet in. Is it viable for actually fighting? Probably not. It's way too unbalanced.

Just use an actual warhammer.

If I had one of those I'd be using the spike end for pretty much all of my killing.

and what are you going to do against plate armour?

Get a buddy to stab him through the back of his knee while he's focused on me, then get a knife in his eyeslit or something.

historically correct, but it did remind me of Merry and Eowyn

The fuck are they going to do to me when they're forced to stay 6-8 feet away from me?

Just distract him for a second and get your giganigga buddy to tackle and shank him.

Baby, what CAN'T I do against plate armor?
>>
>>33085201
That's not a medieval weapon.
>>
>>33085201
A hammer can do as much as an axe but probably better or the same. An axe may chop but the hammer crushes or smashes. Being hit by a hammer is more of a creeping death from crushed organs and bone fractures of a state of internal bleeding no 12th century medicine can cure.
>>
>>33085201
> compared to other medieval weapons?

that isnt a medieval weapon.

thats a bit like having a picture of an "assault rifle" from Fallout, and asking about how it performs compared to other rifles.
>>
>>33085201
It's a good bludgeon if you didn't have anything else, but a bit unwieldy (exactly like a sledgehammer).

At that point, unless you're a real big guy, try and get something like a spear ASAP.
>>
>>33090313
THE MOST VERSATILE WEAPON EVER MADE
>>
>>33085201
Pretty shit, as you depend on blunt force rather than cutting people up, but not too bad - I know the workshop where this is being made. It is hollow, welded together from 3mm thick steel.
>>
>>33090833
It is about 2-3kg. So not too bad, you aren't swinging an anvil on a stick around, but you'd still lose the fight pretty rapidly. If you have a big, burly man outside of fantasy and want him to do some damage, give him an axe.
>>
>>33085201
As its a hollow welded up modern hammer its basically just a bad warhammer as it lacks a thrusting point or back spike. Though its light enough to swing easily, concentrates force well enough so its blungeon isn't terrible. The only problem is with it being hollow even with good steel it will fail long before a traditional hammer would.

that hammer is very large.
from a moving horse a light swing will fuck up someone bad.
hammers are extremely viable vs plate.
I can't believe how ignorant and retarded /k/ is compared to just 5 years ago.

>>
>>33085201
Pretty shit against anything else then a heavy armored knight with extremely heavy armor.
>>
>>33087869
>ACTUAL warhammer
>>
>>33085201
Not an expert on anything but I think it's shit. Worked a bit with a sledge and this shit seems similar. I wouldn't trust myself hurting someone with a sledgehammer unless they were held down, unaware or something, shit's heavy as shit and very very unwieldy.

I don't think the size/strength of the guy would matter that much, this shit is just too massive to use.

Now, putting this weapon against pretty much anything medieval, this mallet will most likely lose in most situations (armored, unarmored, 1v1, 2v1, 2v2) you can think of (except maybe cool executions).

It's really important for a weapon to be light enough to chop/slice a human being that will want to avoid being chopped/sliced, that's why waraxes and warhammers are very light, and wouldn't ever be in WoW.
>>
War hammers were smaller with a longer pole and had a crows beak on the other side.

Being smaller they were more nimble, and a longer pole allowed for longer reach and more momentum.

Concussion/10 if you got smacked on the head with one even in proper armor
