Greetings /k/
I am planning on purchasing a new firearm soon and was looking for something small that takes a reliable cartridge and would be good for a vehicle gun. I've been pricing an AR pistol and can likely build one for $600-$1000 but was wondering if there were any non-NFA PDWs or related firearms for around the same price, preferably the lower end of the price range.
TL:DR
>Cheap short firearm that does not require tax stamp
>$600 - $1000
>affordable catridge
>nothing obscure
What can you recommend me?

I have a radical firearms 7.5 inch 556/223 ar15 pistol. I love it. I bought it from primary arms. Fantastic firearms, never jams, works amazing, almost better than any of my other ar15s. Hope this helps.

and it was for $600

>primary arms
Holy shit. I am extremely close to primary arms, could probably get there in half an hour. did you buy it complete or separate upper and lower?
>>33081148
>sig brace
>trump-wrong.webm
if you dont want an ar extar or dracos are pretty cheap
>>33081347
>works amazing
At punching holes in paper. 5.56 is damn near useless with that short a barrel. You'd have been much better served doing a 9mm build.

I'm looking for an ar pistol to throw in the trunk if these riots get worse.
What size do you recommend?
>>33081508
10.3 or 10.5 minimum
>>33081483
Why is it useless?

Any brand? Looking for sub 900 USD
>>33081535
look at the graph he posted, the muzzle velocity gets super cucked
>>33081508
>>33081535
5.56 relies on velocity to produce an explosive fragmentation in flesh to create wounds. If the round does not have adequate velocity--indicated by the red line in previous pic-related--it will only punch .22cal holes. If you want to go super short PDW length, go for a 9mm build using normal defensive rounds. It is engineered to work in short barrels.
>>33081535
5.56 requires very high velocities to work as-intended. It's supposed to fragment, and at lower velocities, it can't do that.
12.5" is like THE lowest length barrel I'd ever trust for use on an AR that I planned to defend my life with. Will something shorter kill?
Absolutely, but you'll be seriously gimping yourself.

>Will something shorter kill?
10.3 is generally low end cut off for 5.56
It has been killing since Vietnam
>>33081615
That's why I said "absolutely" to follow up my rhetorical question.
>>33081612
11.5"

It's highly debatable. It's true that it won't fragment and tumble at lower velocities, but let me punch any size hole through your chest and see how you feel plus you arn't in the military so you can use hollow points, making a bigger more damaging hole

>plus you arn't in the military so you can use hollow points
The military already use mk262 in their mk18 rifles, which is a 77gr OTM bullet.

Learn how to read dipshit

Open tip match bullets arn't technically hollow tips in the sence that they arn't made to expand on impact
>>33081779
Technically it's not a proper "hollow point" (this is debatable) and the choice is more about accuracy. A hit is better than a miss, irrespective of the terminal performance. Though it is known to tumble and fragment even out of the 10.3 carbines.

.300 aac in a 8.5-10.5" barrel. I'm not a huge fan of the cartridge but it's perfect for that.
One can have a .223/5.56 ar pistol with at least a 10.5" barrel. The 7.5" will need proper softpoint/varmintpoint loads to take down someone quickly. With the 10.5 it still needs ammo that's not dogshit to take down a threat but it's less likely to run into cycling issues.
For the price of good .223 defensive loading, you can buy good defensive .330 blk that packs a bigger punch.
I love .223 but this is an area in which the .300 blk shines.
Get a Scorpion, OP.
