are civilian trainers [who are well educated in the field but have zero experince] better trainers then ex army guys? also any good experince or example of bad/good trainers who were ex military/civilian
I was thinking of people like Sonny Puzikas or James Yager who seem to be both ex military but there training is hated by every one

It depends on the person. If they have a passion for it, and can expand on what they were taught. Yeager gets heat because of his personality.
I'm a civilian with plans to open up a gym for self defense. I would never do classes with firearms. I never served and don't have the experience. With that said I think yes...A firearms instructor should be Leo or ex military, only because of a student asking a hypothetical question that a military instructor would have a higher probability of having an honest answer too. It would be the same as why should someone teach martial arts if they don't have a real match with their teachers or test themselves?
