To this day i still don't understand how putting a big mass of frail electronics on top of a gun for the mere sake of shooting without poking your head out was not seen as a gimmicky and stupid idea.

At least we got slick famas out of that.

Well Virtus was marketed as "designed by infantry, for infantry", so make of that what you will for the grammatical quality.

Witness the epitome of "terrible MoD photoshoots" with this one. Concept study on future soldier equipment. Good intentions, possibly some good ideas found.

But good lord someone sort out the photoshoot team. The poor bugger probably got torn a couple new ones over this back at the barracks.

They're fanciful C/S.

We exercised with American troops who had recently come off the back of a Vietnam tour (yes, I am getting on a bit). They used all their C/S from Vietnam. We didn't do anything like that, so we just invented different C/S and insisted they were ours and had been for years. All of theirs were snakes or snake related. Cobra, Adder, Rattler, Viper, Venom etc etc.

"Say again Trouser", with much giglging over the net.

Over a wider net, their OC had the C/S "NIGHTHAWK". Ours was 0.

They were good fun, but it was bemusing.

What so futuristic about it? That's pretty much what a standard grunt would carry.

It looked like a mix-and-match fest too
>>
>>33076998
>>Putting the object that will cause the most damage if pierced in the most likely place to get shot.

Yeah, who puts loads on their torso. How stupid.

Batteries are heavy, where the fuck else are you going to put it, on his wrists?

>>Ahhh! I've been shot!, better check my watch to see if it cause any harm.

Or you know... automatically tell your allies you've been injured and how even if you're not capable of it. Biometrics probably aren't good enough to do that usefully yet, but you're deliberately making the most idiotic assumptions here.
>>
>>33073007
Weaponised monkeys are the future?
>>
>>33078422
Lipo batteries are not heavy. What decade are you living in? And have you ever seen one rupture or fail? The heat coming off of that is not something you want anywhere near your chest or face.
>>
>>33077965
It's a tradeoff. They wanted soldiers to be connected to the BMS but at the same time still effective in jungle combat.

It is a mix and match since none of the tailor made system can fully fit (literally and figuratively) the requirement, yet at the same time most of the equipments could be found off the shelf so developing a truly unique system is basically reinventing the wheel. So they would get equipment that is suitable to their need
>>
>>33078730
The average US soldier carries 16lbs of batteries currently, and every future soldier concept has increased tech integration and more gadgets.

Where else would you carry that but the torso?
>>
>>33078730
>>33078906
Wait, you do realize that just because its integrated into the chest rig, doesn't mean its on his chest right? In the concept its on his back.

I thought that was obvious.
>>
>>33072362
France's system is the first and only one that actually got fielded on a large scale. Overall it brought many improvements, including with clothes, gear, etc, but the idea of every single soldier having that huge scope was retarded. Snipers and machine gunners would have been enough. End result : most troops don't use the scope, too heavy, require batteries and usually overkill to kill non-whites in the desert.

>>33078927
Felin weight is definitely a problem, beyond tiring the soldier. It makes a paratrooper company go from 5,5 to 8,5 tons, so you need planes instead of two in order to project it.
