These guns are sexy and a blast to shoot but is there any point buying one in the current year?
>>

what else do you need?

Read your own post again.
"Hey these guns are great and look good but i dont see the point in getting one"

you listed the only 2 goddamn reasons you need in your post

I've been trying to find reasons to buy one but can't.

Not as reliable as modern polymer guns.
Expensive as shit and requires custom fitting taking months.
Full-size holds a pathetic 7-8 rounds of 45acp.
On top of that I can't seem to shoot straight with any of the rentals I have tried, compared to Glocks and other wonder 9s.
>>
>>33071973
>>33071967
Ok I guess for fun. But a pistol is a weapon and should fully serve its purpose (which it does) but it's outclassed by other more modern options
>>
>>33072007
Then get the modern firearm
>>
>>33072007
you mean why would you use a 1911 for serious use?
nostalgia, i suppose.
>>
>>33072007
The good ones are reliable and they send 230gr bullets downrange. They're by no means obsolete. Just kind of big for their capacity.
>>
>>33071998
he'd probably love them, make his goddamn 50 yard kills with a handgun a little bit more realistic
>>
>>33072007

Get a Glock and an 16.5" AR. After that, get out of guns, because if your only reason to own something is MUH TACTICAL then you don't really need to be a gun guy at all.
>>
>>33071999
>not as reliable
explain
>expensive as shit and requires custom fitting
wrong. Buy a stock RIA for $400 and enjoy. If your gun malfunctions, learn why it did. You'll be better for it.
>low cap
Yes, this is true
>I can't shoot straight with rentals
That's a you problem and not a gun problem.
>>
>>33071999
>not as reliable
myth, maybe some 3,000 acid etched dow to the micron fitted 1911 will fail because there is too much dust on it but your average joe 1911 will run no problem.
>expensive and requires custom fitting
more expensive because steel costs money son, and no, they don't require any goddamn custom fittings, you can get a ruger or remington 1911 that is perfectly reliable and accurate for under $700 (depending on whether you live in a free state or not)
>only hold 8 rounds
extended mag? git gud? get a 9mm 1911? take your pick
>can't shoot straight with a 1911
stop compensating then, the kick back on a full size 1911 is less than on a compact polymer 9mm
>>
>>33071957
It's an outdated design with some glaring flaws that Browning himself later rectified (HiPower)
No, they're not as reliable as other modern, stock pistol designs. Glock, CZ, HK, SIG, and Beretta shit all over this gun. Sorry.
1911 fans have all manner of excuses for "mah reliability" or "mah stopping powah" but the fact of the matter is there are better designs.

that said, while it's not a "go to war" gun by any means, nothing wrong with owning one. They are fun, they do feel great - they're just like an old car. Finicky, but cool in a retro way and fun to drive. Just maybe not what you'd take on a cross country tour.
>>
All you guys who are saying "finnicky" are going to have to explain further.

My bone stock mil-spec feeds everything from ball to hydra-shoks and has never FTF or FTE or whatever.
>>
>>33072119

in chapter 2 he gets one and then wines about the 7 round cap

It's ok to own both 1911s and polymer toy guns.

Funny story, my Les Baer is over 10,000 rounds (I reload so I count) without one hiccup. Can't say the same for my brick.

I love mine. Its fun as hell to shoot. And actually enjoyable to field strip and clean.

But due it's pathetic ammmo capacity compared to a dbl stack 9mm semi auto pistol, the 1911 would be one of the first guns i would get rid of, if i had to part with any of my guns for some reason.

When my P226 hold 18 rounds of 9mm in flush fit mags. I just cant see having the 1911 as a primary side arm.

I just have it because its a cool gun and fun to shoot.

yeah, if you want to drop one and have it go off and kill your 4-year old daughter

I EDC a 1911.
It's a pistol with a great single action trigger, a manual safety, and a huge aftermarket.
That's what I was looking for.
Mine has never had a single failure of any kind ever, and I trust my life with it.
It doesn't have as much capacity as other guns, but that's only a problem for people who like to imagine themselves getting in huge gunfights.
Average defensive gun use is 2-3 shots fired. 9 rounds of +P 45 acp is plenty for me.

it's only like 6 ounces heavier than a G17, anon. it's not all that bad
IMO the 1911 is the way a semiauto should feel. I'm not gonna get into ammo cap and that shit but when it comes down to the feel the gun gives you, with grip and handling and position, the 1911 is the proper way to do it.

Is there any point in buying a pistol other than a double stack 9x19mm in the current year?
>>
The wife has a Commander because it fits her tiny hands well. Ergonomics.

She has a Hipower and a .357 revolver as well for the same reason.

Most other handguns, especially doublestacks, are just too big for her.

Also, you get good terminal performance, big bore, and relatively low pressure, blast, and noise.

It also conceals well being so flat.
>>
>>33073890
no, he was bitching about the fact that he only got 7 bullets when he was given the gun
