why is .223 wylde a thing when 5.56 barrels can fire both safely?

also are hollowpoint commercial 5.56 loads a thing?
>>
>>33066461
.223 wylde is not just about using both rounds, it is about using more kinds of round with better accuracy. Higher grain bullets, etc.

Dimensions inbetween .223 rem and 5.56nato chambers. So basically better precision potential of a .223 rem chamber , but can dafely fire 5.56.

And no there is no NATO hollow point ammo

223 wylde is a meme
223 wylde is a 223 shaped chamber rated for 5.56
HERE'S THE THING: All modern 223 chambers are rated for 5.56 unless it specifically says otherwise. It's literally trivial to make it so, and no one wants to deal with customers blowing up their guns.
Fun Fact: 223 and 556 have "different pressure ratings" because they are measured differently.

Furthermore, no one outside of SAAMI even makes a distinction in the pressure rating. Anywhere else if it can't handle 5.56 it isn't 223.

Is there a commonly agreed upon point where calibers start becoming "high powered"?

OR you could go to numrich and add every piece you need to cart and make your own kit. Might of to source a slide and some incidental parts still.
>>
>>33068983
you will get lower pressures, semi-autos might not cycle. I recommend making the ashes part of the projectile. Maybe fill some hollowpoints with the ashes, dip in wax to seal the ashes in.
>>
>>33066461
It helps accuracy while using .223 but it can also use 5.56.
>>
>>33071960
they don't have the same casing volume. 7.62 has 2.31 cm^3, 5.45 has 1.75 cm^3. So 7.62 has ~25% more powder. Combine that with a heavier projectile, and you'll see that 7.62 has higher muzzle energy. Muzzle energy divided by weight of the gun is a good way to estimate recoil.

Depends on your definition. They've always had the trigger defect and will fire if you touch the bolt if that spring starts to wear or wonder.

The actual quality of machining and finish tanked after they were aquired by DuPont and tanked even harder after Cerberus aka freedom group bought them
>>
>>33068934
Car doors are paper thin these days. A 22 will go through a car door, 9mm will (and has been proven too) go through one door and out the other with no issue. Unless its a super old steel body land yacht, nothing but the engine block is going to stop any caliber.

A semi auto AR-15 has two hammer stops: The disconnector, and the trigger. The trigger holds the hammer when released, and the disconnector when not released.
A full auto AR-15 is the same as semi auto, but adds an auto sear. The Auto Sear catches the hammer and prevents it from firing until the bolt is seated. In Position 3 the disconnector is disabled, and the hammer is held only by the auto sear or trigger.
The M16A2-style burst trigger group adds a second disconnector. A cam sits on the right side of the hammer, which has three highs, one low, three more highs, and one more low. The cam advances one position when the hammer cocks. In Position 3 the primary disconnector is disabled and it fires exactly the same as full auto, but when the cam hits a valley the secondary disconnector is tripped, stopping the hammer until the trigger is released.

As far as carry/gun ownerships require the owner to have the gun "under their control" or secure etc... How does that (if at all) apply to the way people carry guns?

By which I mean; is it illegal to carry guns without a holster? Like your classic pocket carry, and tucked in waistband carry.

No I'm not a cholo or gangbanger, I use a holster whenever I leave my neighborhood; BUT if I'm just going to take out the trash, or getting the mail (evenings and weekends), and I'm wearing belt-less pants at the moment, I'll just tuck it in my shorts under my T-shirt or if the weather is cooler put it in my hoodie big pocket or jacket inner pocket on top of my sweatpants. If I get hit by a car and sent flying and my pistol hits some soccer mom in the face, I feel reasonably confident that I could explain myself to the officer/judge/jury that It's my own fucking neighborhood and I was just going out for a quick stroll, I'm a law abiding gun owner, sorry I was marginally lazy this time, and my weapon "got out of my control" but come on. While on the other hand, if I'm going to even get into my car to drive to the gas station or grocery store or bank nearby (.25-1 miles away really) I will slap on some belted pants and use my holster. But do I really need to?

I'm not trying to advocate pocket/tuck carry over holsters; holsters are simply better. But if you're just relaxing in your sweatpants, and you don't need to go far; it's OK right? (by which I mean is it OK from a legal standpoint? Are there any formal definitions or precedent regarding what toes the line about having your firearm 'under your control'?)

I know there are AR variants that fire from an open bolt, like the Colt Automatic Rifle, and I know that the M27 replacing some of the M249s in Marine Corps service fires from a closed bolt.

The question is, is there any firearm in the AR-15 family that uses an open bolt in full auto and a closed bolt in semi auto?

D is other
E is ammo

D is: historical, one-or-two-shot flintlocks, etc., flobert up to 7.5J muzzle energy, air guns up to 16J muzzle energy,
something i can't figure out but I suspect is air guns with detachable air canister, non-guns that use ammo (industrial butchering tools etc) bows and crossbows with 150N+ strength, properly deactivated guns, cut-away's, deactivated ammo and weapons not listed in cats A to C.

Spray it with on, scrub or wipe down as needed, repeat until clean, follow up with lube. Most brake cleaners have fairly aggressive solvents that evaporate rapidly. They also have a tendency to be pretty toxic, so use nitrile gloves and eye protection, and for fucks sake use it outside or somewhere with really good ventilation, the fumes are not good for you. Look for "ultra low VOC" cleaners to minimize the toxic factor.

The only issues I've had with it came just this past Saturday when I finally got to try out the PMC Bronze .223 I've been buying.
It made my rifle short-stroke constantly. Stick with NATO-spec ammo and you're probably fine.
>>
>>33084458
depends on the gun really, some designs will take it better than others, for example it can fuck up your AR, but an AK will eat it happily.

In the case of the G3 or PTR, its even more desirable to shoot than brass, the casings of which are more likely to break in the chamber. Tula is still very accurate in a PTR and if you read reviews of Tula .308 you'll see the best reviews come from PTR owners while everyone else hates it.

Personally i use the fuck out of it, and its nice and cheap. no complaints so far.

331KB, 1280x1280px
Anyone have any opinions on using a Glock 17 mag with a +2 extension for your spare mag when carrying a 19?

I've heard one argument that any situation you would use a spare mag you would already be in a firefight, thus the anti-concealment effect of the mag sticking out slightly (the entire reason the 19's grip is shorter) is irrelevant as it's not in your holster and you have zero need or concern for concealment when it comes time for the 2nd mag.

So your spare mag would have 19 shots with the G17+2 vs the regular G19's 15.

Thoughts?

I mean this for small home defense shotguns.

this seems so painfully obvious im completely expecting someone to instantly reply "the xxxxx, shitlord!", but hasnt anyone incorporated some sorta wind up spring like you see in the amsel striker, but to the hammer of a revolver, or to the action of something like a blowback? when you let off the trigger on that, it lets the cylinder rotate one, so why not have a revolver that pulls the hammer back when you let go of the trigger? you could have a single action trigger with the bonus of double action, and if you went this far, youd probably rig it up in a way that if anything went wrong you just disconnected the wind up spring/whatever and go right to single action. if it was like pic related, you could get something that had like 50 uses in it before needing to wind up tension again, and in a revolver thats really more then youll ever need without a chance to stop and wind it up again?
same for anything else, something that cycles the action on the release of the trigger, adds nothing to the trigger pull and would cycle dud rounds or continue its way through misfires by itself by itself.
something like this HAS to of been done already, and so im guessing its because shit just didnt work or was super rare because useless/overcomplicated, so t. minus 5 seconds till someone blows me the fuck out, right?

also added bonus, use the same system to push spent rounds out of a sidegate revolver by twisting it sideways and releasing the trigger on safe over and over?

> snugged it with wrench
Provided you put some good effort into it, and your gas tube alignment is fine you should be good to go. Apparently barrel nuts don't rotate a crazy amount once snug.

- First AR I built I was easily putting 50 ft/lbs to 80 ft/lbs when I was tightening my barrel nut.
- Took it over to a professional gunsmith just to be safe, his torque wrench clicked right away and he said I was good to go.

Ignore the kikeshit and become a fan, because THAT, not your kiddiefuck dreams, will make you money. Life is a shit sandwichs. The more bread you have the less shit you taste.

If you are wise you'll take machinist courses before gunsmithing for a superior understanding of metal and manufacturing. Too many people are so eager to play with guns they forget why they are taking training.

A gunsmith can fix one weapon at a time. If that gunsmith is also a manufacturer he can be making many profitable parts at the SAME time on a CNC milling center.

IRL in non-shit armies the bore is inspected along with the rest of the weapon system and if it fails, it's replaced. Not a big deal. Military barrels are expendable wear parts like anything else.

This is pretty good and has interesting pics of bores, borescopes, etc.

MilSurp used to be a cheap route to useful bolt guns hence the "sporterizing" in times past. A WWII vet wouldn't care much about "vintage" but would and did appreciate free bringbacks to use home one the farm.

Now most WWII vets are two generations dead and milsurp collecting has replaced what they collected, which are now referred to as fudd guns and ignored.

Want something practical and useful to shoot that's not worn the fuck out? Buy a modern rifle and leave milsurp to the cosplayers.

Yeah, I think my best solution is going to be doing something similar to FNH (except they were govt. owned) and naming it after the location where I end up setting up at.

As long as I don't setup somewhere with a weird name, it should be cool.

Like someone else said, it's the least of my worries right now.

With the fucking retarded amount of CZ75 models there are, which one is the best for a larger carry piece?

I live where I get to wear a coat 10 months of the year, so I don't need something super compact.

SP01 if you want a rail.
P07/P09 if you don't mind polymer.
P10 whenever that comes out if you want to be hip and happening with your glock-like blocky, polymer, striker gun.

How slowly do you have to let down the hammer on a colt saa pistol, if you're wanting to decock it? I got one yesterday and I'm anxious to shoot it soon but before I do I wanna make sure I'm not decocking it too quickly. Is it a really careful process or does it just have to be somewhat slower than if the hammer came down normally?
>>
I'm debating getting an add-on thumb safety for my Glock 20. I want something more than the little trigger dong to keep the trigger safe when I sleep with the gun nearby. Good idea or no? I don't really care about the cost.
>>
>>33096806
What the fuck kind of answer are you looking for? degrees per second? How gently do you lower the hammer on ANY live round? just do it carefully it isn't rocket science, OR something you should be doing with any degree of regularity; so you don't need to optimize.
>>
>>33096902
>What the fuck kind of answer are you looking for? Degrees per second?
Actually I kind of was looking for something like this :^( this is my first hammer-gun so I have no idea about anything. guess I'll find out when I go to the range!

Gonna piggyback on this question to ask an unrelated question about revolver design:
How feasible would it be to use a very small short stroke gas piston system to both cam the cylinder backwards and index the cylinder?
I've been fixated on this idea as a way to modernize the Nagant Revolver's awful trigger-actuated cylinder seal by having the cylinder naturally rest in a sealed state and allowing gas pressure to passively index the cylinder instead of a heavy trigger linkage.
