I almost lost my right to own firearms once. I got into a heated confrontation with some stolen valor idiot in a bar once, and I used to always carry on me( yah I know stupid, I was fresh out of the service). I bought a lot of milsurp rifles that were not in ideal condition when I was in college. I just used them as fun shooters but I never got attached to them. I kept the ones I liked and sold the others to fund other gun purchases. I did buy a 1944 M1 carbine with the part of the money but the rest of the stuff I bought was modern.

I consider myself knowledgeable about firearms and have lurked this board for 5 years, and yet I still do not know what is meant by the term "Mauser action."

Everyone says how tons of hunting rifles and shit are based on the "Mauser action" and I have no clue what the fuck that means. Like it's just based on the type of bolt Mauser used in a lot of their rifles? Because Mauser made a lot of guns besides bolt actions, and even with their bolt actions, not all of the bolts were the exact same. I don't fucking get it. It's like saying all cars are Ford-style cars because he was the first to streamline automobile production.

Usually they are simply referring to a dual front lug bolt.
Most of what are called mauser actions don't actually have anything more than that in common. A true Mauser action was based on his patents on the magazine, ejectors, safety, and clip feeding. He also used a fairly unique a the time lug geometry nd chamber face.
Almost none of what he designed is actually still in use.

I keep a .38 revolver as my nightstand gun despite having several suitable automatics.

I bought a revolver because I wanted the power of the magnum cartridge and I think they look cool as fuck. I admit though, that as a self defense weapon it's not quite as good as an automatic. Luckily I've never felt in danger enough to consider selling it; I'd rather wait until I can afford a second pistol.

I like pistols more than rifles. Unless I used it for hunting or serious outdoor adventuring (or war I guess) I feel like a pistol is much more useful more often. You can hunt with a pistol even. I think they're more fun to shoot too.

x39 kicks to much for me. I've tried AKs and owned an SKS I eventually sold. Also had a nugget but the only time I enjoyed it was shooting those czech hollow training rounds. I love .223/5.56 because it barely kicks and I feel like I can move and shoot more effectively.

None of the parts are semis move before the bullet leaves the barrel. It's all temporarily locked in place, otherwise you would get gassed in the face every shot you take. Nothing "inherently more accurate" about it.

The only real discrepancy is in price. The action of a semi costs more to make than a bolt gun because of the number of parts. Ergo, a $500 semi leaves less room for money(read: work/labor) to be spent on the barrel(what most determines accuracy) than $500 bolt gun.

For the right amount of money a semi could be made that matches any 'super accurate' bolt gun ever made, assuming a high threshold of diminishing returns vs the opportunity cost.
