Daily reminder that if you're shooting trap and have a semi-auto gun, pls make sure your ejection trajectory isn't directly into the bloke next to you. Shit is irritating to have to dodge a flying object right as you're about to take your turn.

M88 seems like another viable option, though I'd want the Stalker due to having a longer barrel from moment one, and because it's has a 3 1/2 inch chamber. Will absolutely get an M88 one day though, I'm a bit of an up and coming shotgunfag.

>how's the 18.5" barrel
balances the gun's weight nicely & the bit of extra weight it saves is nice

>don't really know what a good barrel length is.
somewhat subjective imo
..my guns are specifically for defensive use around the house & in the trunk of my ride...
like i mentioned, the 18.5" guns are well balanced & fast handling, especially with a 5rd mag..
i use the 20" 590a1 for primary hd, mostly for the ammo capacity...the a1 is significantly front-heavy (dat heavy-walled a1 barrel)...

as far as ammo patterning is concerned, both guns produce practically identical patterns out to 25 yds..both are cylinder bore btw....

so yeah, all-in-all, kinda subjective...i value the 8+1 capacity which requires the 20"

I have an old 20ga antique that's pretty similar.

It's very point-able and easy to manipulate. Very little felt weight to it. Enough so that if it wasn't older than my grandfather I might just be handing it to people to teach them how to shoot clays.

The recoil with a 12ga would change that though.

Not him, and not a hunter, but most hunters hunt with double barrels or semi autos, so I would assume the fast shots are more important. I mean, it's reasonable: you have the chance to shoot when the flock flies up, and then you have plenty of time to reload.

I recently bought a 12g Franchi al48. It's my first gun and has worked pretty well so far for sporting clays. The only negative is that it ejects shells into the next time zone. Hopefully I'll be taking it out to a range this weekend and will shoot some slugs through it. If that goes well, I'm going to look into mounting a scope on it.

They are in the US, a handful made it in before the Clinton era import ban.
They sell for between $1,200 and $2,000 - you will have to reload shells though, the most economical way to shoot is buy some lathed brass shells and 3D print some shot cups.

Someone who had one posted in a reloading forum that a typical load was a 1/4lb of shot.

This is a picture that shows how it works fairly well. It's also kind of neat that they molded in a functional six shell holder into the stock too.

The one thing that this stock doesn't do perfectly as a result of the design is fold entirely onto the receiver, it does stick up a fair bit when folded, but it pivots the length of the stock over top to make it shorter while still providing a really nice cheek weld. I love it, it's the first folding shotgun stock I've liked.

To be fair I have a .308 and a 45-70, and both of those do not kick anywhere as much as my 12ga firing buckshot, slugs, or turkey loads (especially the slugs, thats 1oz of lead going more than 1500fps). But the again, my 12ga kicks no where as much as those rifles when I'm just firing a #8 target load. The answer to your question is to grip the gun into you so that you are kicking with the recoil and not being kicked by the recoil, but that goes for any gun.
>>
>>33073739
The Ruger Red Label is a fine beginner shotgun if you're getting into skeet, trap, or sporting clays. Especially with how pricey Beretta and Browning O/U shotguns are. Some years down the line when youre actually good at shooting, then you could better justify an upgrade.
>>
>>33068954
Make sure that you can get a good cheek weld on it. A friend of mine has a 20ga single shot that has such a small stock that you can't really get into the gun for a good shot. I would be good as a youth gun, I suppose.

So I inherited one of these things and it's sat in a closet for 30 years basically untouched. some surface rust but nothing horrible. Bolt works fine, dry fires with no issues.

Should I take it to a gunsmith to have it checked out before I go shooting it this weekend?

It's an abomination is what it is.

Also Inertia systems are extremely more simple to maintain than the ARGO.

Was really thinking of getting a shotgun for my next gun purchase, either a Mossberg 500 or a Winchester SXP.

Then I thought perhaps I should get a .22 rifle instead. These should have been my first two gun purchases honestly, but buying an AR and two wonder nines were too tempting for me.

So Shotgun
Pros:
-BOOOM!!!: will give me something loud, fun and with a good amount of recoil to work with, since I own only smaller caliber weapons at the moment, and hopefully help me knock out my subconscious flinch
-versatile as fuck, can use for hunting, trap shooting, range fun, home defense

Cons
-Live in a city so I don't really have any trap shooting ranges near my house
-probably won't get to hunt for a long time
-Don't really need it for HD, since my AR is set up for that already.
-shells are a tad expensive for just range shooting

.22 pros
-Cheap ammo (finally available again): can sit there and plink all day without breaking the bank
-more suitable for the current situation I'm in
-can use it to start off new shooters I want to take out to the range
-can hopefully become a better shooter by just getting more trigger time

Cons
-I really do get bored of shooting .22LR after a while
-feels too much like shooting a bb gun

kinda leaning toward a .22 right now. Obviously I'll own both at one point, but I'm just talking about my next purchase.

Those people often think it's some sort of right of passage to be kicked out by their parents to work some shit job just to pay rent in some shit apartment.

Picked this up from my FFL yesterday. It needs a few new parts like a new stock buffer, receiver buffer, and possibly new springs that can all be acquired thanks to the Spas-12 website, but I'm really happy with the overall condition of the externals of the gun.

Anyone know how to disassemble a hatfield single shot 12ga?

I was able to knock the pins out but couldn't get the lower part off/

For real? At most I think I could get one for $180, while i haven't seen anyone sell one where I live.
>>
>>33095763
I'm a leaf, so we have some stupid laws regarding barrel length up here. As long as it's factory made, length of a pump\break action shotgun doesn't matter much. If there is a limit, it cannot be beneath 12 inches, but even then I'm not certain if that's set in stone.

The fore grip comes off, then the barrel can come off it's pivot.

The trigger and hammer components held in by pins that you have to punch out.

Yes you likely should, there were recalls on a fairly large portion of these models of shotguns, I have one of the few models that did not fall under the recall.I absolutely love mine, it's a lot of fun and I got it for $75 at a gun show.

>>33092844
Neither is a worse choice than the other. The one gun I can suggest staying away from is the CIL single shot shotguns, they open via a large plastic button that I find on older guns can become incredibly hard to depress. I have a Boito myself, they're a really great choice too. What it mainly comes down to is if you prefer cocking a hammer (I assume the Cooey 840 has a hammer?) or if you'd prefer cock on open, ala the Baikal. I wanted one that felt more Fallout New Vegasey/more cowboy like so I decided to get a hammered design.
