If you are putting that through an 8mm mauser you are going to end up with an explosion in your face. Look at the neck alone compared to 8mm mauser.

a quick look on wikipedia says yes but I'd dig a bit deeper. I believe as long as there is a stylized "S" stamp on the barrel, you should be safe to fire 8x56r.

I, myself, have a steyr m95 carbine. It's a hard kicker but that old surplus shoots just fine. My rifle also has a very nice bore compared to most others I've seen in person. PPU makes reasonably priced cartridges as well at only about 1.15-1.25 per round.
