So that WR762 a safe bet to buy or wait and see till the general public get their hands on one first?

Or skip altogether and wait for the Type 81 and it's horrible sight picture? Seems TI has a meet/talk with Poly set sometime next week hopefully get more info then.

Just looking for another way to burn thru the Norc 7.62 I have.

I keep hearing good things about Lower Trent Valley Fish & Game Club Just wish that place was closer to Toronto let alone Mississauga.

Target Sports is pretty ok to good but it's indoors and can get busy at popular times more often than not.

Hear Firearms Outlet Canada is looking to open an indoor range in Ajax. Gonna have one of those high tech target return systems, But the price of membership looks to be estimated in the $1000+ range like fuck me sideways why.
http://us1.campaign-archive2.com/?u=6d0d3055c1c4af249e63f9a77&id=9fb22f1300&e=dc368b91ca

Whatever happen to that guy who wanted to open up a gun range just outside Canada's Wonderland? But yeah I'm thinking of either going with Target Sports or Urban Tactical when I decide to get more serious about target shooting.

Yeah I'm between two camps here on either going for the Vz58(and clones) or the Type 81

Type 81
>Rifle is fine and you must adapt to it.
At this point it's unknown if there will be or can there be any after market for it which would suck if the fixed or folder isn't to your liking and we all know how rifles from china are with accessories or changing out shit. Sounds perfect if you just want a straight up shooter

WR762
>Proven rifle design is good just not sure about those Cannuks eh
Yeah you can go pretty fucking ham on nearly everything about the Vz.58 platform at this point. Just that fucking price point for what we all know is $800-$1000 Rifle in truth.
>>
>>33049603
That's actually a reasonable price for those, at least compared to what they were a while ago.

The law was written originally in the context of penetrative sex with an animal. That's why they ruled non-penetrative sex legal, not because the Court loves getting sucked off by dogs, but because that's literally what the law says and their job is to rule according to that.

That said, the "consent" justification for anti-bestiality laws is retarded. We don't ask a dog's consent before chopping its balls off. We don't ask a cow's consent before we hook it up to a machine and suck out its milk. We certainly don't ask a deer's consent before we put a bullet through its chest. Animals are property, they don't have rights. A rights-based attack on an animal-related subject is a poor one to take.

>>
>>33050346

>>
>>33050230
I'm really hoping that they're good quality rifles, since I'm really happy with my CSA made one, and I think more people should own them, but at the same time I'm not certain how great Kodiak Defense (the ones actually making the rifles) are going to be in their production values. I would assume they'd at least beat those VZ2008s that Century made/imported in the USA, but that remains to be seen.
>>33050428
If it's Crown land, it follows the safety laws regarding where you can shoot (200m+ away from building, not across a road, etc), and there aren't any municipal bylaws on shooting, then it's good to go. There may also be forests in the area that allow hunting, they typically also allow target shooting.
>>
>>33050444
But you can't shoot restricted there? Also why the fuck can you shoot anywhere in crown land but ranges need so much BS registration?

Say I wanted to get into long range precision shooting. What would be a good rifle to start on?
My guess would be some dur rifle.
>>
>>33050929

Define: "Long range"

You can reach out pretty far with even rounds in the .308 family at a fairly affordable price.

Ruger has a pretty nice new entry-level rifle.

http://www.ruger.com/products/precisionRifle/models.html

Alternatively, Savage has a pretty good quality/price going for it with a very significant aftermarket. The accutrigger and accustock are pretty damn good out of the box.
>>
>>33050830
Because muh feels and muh crime prevention. Apparently allowing shooting handguns in the bush means that criminals will be super deadly accurate trained assassin snipers when they do their drive-bys or something. You have to remember that the legislation was written under the idea that all guns are bad and all gun owners are murderers in the making. It was only because of their graciousness and willingness to extend their trust that we can own guns, and only after we work hard to prove we're worth it. From there the laws start to make sense, at least the reasons why they're there.
>>
>>33049621

DO NOT WANT. seriously though, fuck that place, and fuck JR. also it's way up in the north end, and i live in mississauga, so even more nope, it'd be faster to drive to UT.

>lower trent

keep hearing good things, but again, mississauga. on my couple of trips to trenton, it usually takes me longer to get past whitby/ajax than it does to do the rest of the trip there.

does anyone go to waterford or know if they are accepting? they're nice and cheap, and not far from UT.
>>
>>33050997

Things to keep in mind:

Longer barrels mean more velocity.
Thicker barrels mean more accuracy.

It's easier to compensate for bullet drop than it is to compensate for barrel harmonics. You're better off with a shorter and stiffer barrel than a long wobbly noodle of a barrel.

Also, if you're shooting from the prone position, get a nice butt pad because you're going to feel the kick a hell of a lot more than if you're shooting from a standing position.
>>
>>33050929
Savage 11 in .308. Has an accutrigger and accustock so you get an accu-rifle without having to do a trigger job and bed the action. Obviously if you want a 1337 h4x high speed 1/4MOA sniper rifle, you'll have to put plenty of money and work into your rifle. But the Savage gets you 1MOA out of the box for relatively cheap. Just make sure the action screws are torqued properly, that shit killed my groups when I first started.

Alternatively, you can drop to .223 to develop fundamentals for less (if you feel you need to). More barrel life, cheaper per-round cost, and you can still fuck around up to 600m or so. The shooting part of long range shooting is just the application of fundamentals, those same fundamentals which you use at close range. If they're shit, your long range performance will be shit.

Also I'm assuming you will be, or already are into, reloading. It's not optional if you want to get into long range or precision shooting.

And finally, don't forget about your glass. You don't need a $3k S&B, but you won't be doing much with a bargain bin Tasco 3-9x42.

You're welcome, that gun shop in particular is north of Ottawa and I'm a bit surprised that the ammunition was available online for purchase. When I purchased 7.62x45 from them they said that was a mistake (for some reason). Only managed to snag about 100 rounds from them due to cost. That was about 2-3 years ago.

This. If you want a cheap and easy way to start reloading, start with a Lee Hand Press. Something like $80 or so, maybe less, can't remember. It still won't be all THAT cheap, but it's a start. Die sets will be something like $20-40, then there's the bullets, the primers (though to be fair they're cheap as dirt; cheapest part of a cartridge, something like a penny each), the powder, the reloading book, and so on. Ultimately, I find it to be a fun pastime, AND it gives me .303 British for about 50 cents a shot, about 55 cents a shot for .30-06, so fuckin' eh!

No they redirect all gases escaping the barrel which can change the recoil impulse of the gun, but in doing so they usually force sound in direction of other shooters on the firing line.
>>
>>33057056
He's right though, they have no authority in contradicting the firearms act.

I imagine the first time it goes to court is the only time because it'll get thrown out.
>>
>>33057074

Yes, but it's not actually making the gun louder, only sending the sound in a direction that the shooter and people perpendicular to the shooter will hear it clearer.

If you were the one being shot at, it would sound quieter.
>>
>>33057077

Honestly, I doubt that last part.

When there are aspects of the law that are too underdefined (like safe storage laws) or the way the law is interpreted/enforced (like the 10/22 magazine fiasco), they tend to use the "shotgun approach" and basically throw any charge they can think of onto the person, no matter how innocent they are, and then after months and months of costly legal bullshit, either get them to take a plea bargain for fewer/lesser charges (usually includes firearm prohibition) or just straight-up drop the charges to avoid it setting a precedent in court. The process IS the punishment.

The Ian Thompson case was actually one of the rare instances where they didn't drop the case and they were literally laughed out of court.

Thankfully, the firearm community in Canada is much better organized now than it was in the 90's, mostly thanks to the Internet being so broadly adopted even among old codgers, so it's much easier for people to band together and fight that kind of bullshit.

If you're not yet a member of at least one of the three major gun orgs (CSSA, NFA, CCFR), then you should consider purchasing a membership.
>>
>>33057137
>Honestly, I doubt that last part.
Unlike the other things where everything is left up to interpretation, the firearms act very specifically states rimfire does not have a capacity restriction. They are directly contradicting solid wording in the written law of Canada.
>>

Absolutely, and the Mounties are overstepping the boundaries in an unacceptable manner.

Seriously, how did Trudeaux j.r. get elected? Where were my magnificent fellow gun owners in the last election? The ones who got a Conservative majority Government before. I was open minded about him, but he's made his stance against firearms, so he's made his stance against US!
>>
>>33057634
>Seriously, how did Trudeaux j.r. get elected?
Because our system allows people to be elected in with 39% of the vote. Far under half of the country wanted him in but that's what we get.
He's going to lose a fuckload of voters because of his fucking around with the electoral reform promise that's for sure.
All we need is Mad Max to step in there as leader for the Conservatives and all these people will go "Yeah, fuck Trudeau. I remember how he made on his promise last time!"
>>
>>33057634

Honestly, even if Harper stepped down, I don't think they would have been able to get better than a minority government. We're talking about almost a decade of CBC propaganda.

At the same time, the LPC fielded a candidate from Quebec (they alternate between Anglo/Franco every time due to a divide in the party, in case you haven't noticed), which harmed the other leftist parties in Quebec. This was particularly bad for the NDP who had been bleeding support in the province due to their stance on the whole burka thing, as well as losing Layton only to have him replaced with Mulcair... The NDP gains in Quebec we already primarily a protest vote against the BQ, so once the NDP lost votes, the split went to the LPC.

I knew Trudeau was going to win, but I was hoping it would be a minority government so they couldn't completely fuck up the country and, if they really pushed the wrong buttons (like they are doing now), we could actually have an election triggered via a non-confidence vote.

Plus side: It gives us time to elect Maxime Bernier as CPC leader and then weaponize some memes for the 2019 election. Though I suppose it's possible that the LPC will choose to start the election earlier if they think it'll work to their advantage... Maybe they'll do it at the same time as the US midterm elections?
>>
>>33057693
God I hope we get a non-confidence vote. Wasn't that how Harper got a majority Government? There was a non-confidence vote, and boom, he ended up with even MORE seats than before, and I think the Libs even got a record-low for seats!
>>
>>33057759
>God I hope we get a non-confidence vote.
Can we?
I didn't think we could meet requirements.
>>
>>33057759

For a non-confidence vote to go through, LPC MP's would have to vote against the government. What do you think the odds are of that happening right now?

It will either go until late 2019 or the LPC will trigger it early themselves.
>>
>>33057768

Realistically, no.

That's what a majority is. You have enough seats in parliament that even if every MP not in your party disagrees, you can still pass or kill any bill you want in parliament. Opposition only really has power in minority governments.
>>
Also, just so we're clear: The reason they're not doing electoral reform is that no party would ever be likely to get a majority government ever again with proportional representation.
>>
>>33057768
I fucking hope so, even though...
>>33057781
It sounds like it's very unlikely.
>>33057775
I think if we DID get a non-confidence vote, Trudeaux j.r. would be out on his ass. Wanting to be "tough on guns"... I don't care if there's a paraplegic Canadian gun owner out there, if ANY Canadian gun owner didn't take the chance to vote against Trudeaux j.r. when the opportunity presented itself, then they DESERVE to lose their firearms! God damn any of you to Hell who didn't vote in the last election against Junior! I ended up going to the wrong voting booth ALL the way across town, was running out of time, got an expensive fucking cab ride to the proper side of town, and had to SPRINT to the voting area. The cop on duty there was rather freaked out at the sound of running, but I made it, and I voted, and it was NOT for fucking Junior! Personally, I think what happened is all those lonely housewives and single mothers out there thought he was cute, so got an 'interest in politics' all of a sudden, then rushed out to vote for him because he's a fucking prettyboy.

Walmart 180 grain winchester for 26 bucks here in Edmonton
>>
>>33059880
I've heard those aren't the greatest, in terms of reliability and ease of disassembly.
Also the 10/22 thing goes something like this: rimfire rifles have unlimited capacity, all handguns have 10 round capacity. Ruger made a couple small batches of a stockless SBR for the US market (see their rules on short barrel rifles vs handguns) and marketed it as a handgun. A very small number of these "handguns" were imported into Canada (IIRC around 100, possibly even less). The RCMP decided that all Ruger 10/22 rifle magazines are also inherently designed for the Ruger 10/22 Charger "handgun" and therefor all 10/22 magazines should be limited to 10 rounds, rather than unlimited capacity. They made and implemented this decision unilaterally and without parliamentary oversight.
>>

If you're not yet a member of at least one of the three major gun orgs (CSSA, NFA, CCFR), then you should consider purchasing a membership

Which one is the best one though?
>>
>>33060502
All are good. I'm personally partial to CCFR as they're both visible and trying to directly engage both MPs in parliament and the public at large. CSSA is pretty good, but they don't seem to publicly do much and seem to work more behind the scenes, though they generally try to work directly with parliament and in the legal system. NFA was good, though they seem to have jumped the shark lately. They prefer the louder and more publicly aware route to promoting a pro-gun agenda, organizing petitions and publicly lobbying for the changes they want. Seem to think that firearms rights are absolute in Canada.
>>
>>33060502

There is no "best", they all serve a different purpose. NFA is in shambles though.
>>
>>33060502

I'm a CCFR field officer" so I'm biased towards us obviously.
Some ranges require a CSSA membership however.
>>
Why can't they all just agree to join together for the greater good? A house divided against itself cannot stand and all that.
>>
>>33060669
They all have differing goals and conflicting leadership styles. They'd do horribly in a merger and it would probably shatter all 3 groups, especially considering CCFR formed due to (and partially caused) the NFA falling apart. That being said, any given gun owner should try to be a part of at least one of those groups, if not 2 or 3.
>>
>>33060669

The same reason there's groups other then the NRA in the US.
>>
>anon posting about wanting a 11.8 vz

>>33060669

>>
>>33060799
But in their case the NRA is the dominant force, which is my point. If it can function as the only group they need then the same should happen here. If the groups don't want to work together then start a new one.
>>
>>33061422
They do work together, they all just have different ways they prefer to pursue their unified goal. The main issue is that the leadership of the 3 groups don't work well together, because of the difference in opinion on how to best advance firearms ownership in Canada. Ultimately they all still have the same goal.
>>
>>33061422
The NRA's function is different from what is necessary here. They just need to resist new laws infringing on the 2nd Amendment, and promote laws that exist in good states to be adopted in shit states. There's really only one way to go about this.

In Canada, we are trying to go against the grain and loosen existing regulations in a country where firearms ownership is a privilege and seen as a public safety issue. There is significant disagreement on how to approach this issue, hence why no one group is the dominant force in the firearms lobby.

>>33061598

Fair enough, makes complete sense. I say let Mad Max unite us all.

From the RCMP website:

>Q. I always carry a flare gun in my boat/vehicle for emergencies. Do I need a licence and does it have to be registered?

>Flare guns and other devices designed exclusively for signalling or notifying of distress, and intended to be used exclusively for that purpose by the person in possession of it, are not classified as firearms for purposes of the Firearms Act. A licence is not required to possess one, and it does not have to be registered. These devices are classified as firearms for purposes of the Criminal Code if they are used to commit a crime.

>(Note: A few flare guns have been designed using the frame or receiver of a real handgun, and may require registration as such. The Canadian Firearms Program should be contacted for more information.)

http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/cfp-pcaf/faq/reg-enr-eng.htm#c10

The flare gun itself is not a firearm until used to commit a crime.
BUT
>intended to be used exclusively for that purpose
By inserting the flare insert, you are more than likely changing the intent from signalling to not signalling.
And any judge or jury knows damn well what you are doing.

Yeah, because all the shitty things Harper did as PM certainly weren't the reason why the Tories lost last election.
>>
>>33057656
>Because our system allows people to be elected in with 39% of the vote. Far under half of the country wanted him in but that's what we get.
Yeah, far under half of the country wanted Harper running things for 10 years too, but because of the way the left splits its vote among 3 parties, the Tories have an easy time winning elections. So don't be too quick to count up the popular vote and point to it like it makes the government illegitimate, otherwise you'll need to point to Harper's majority as well.

You're right about everything else though. I don't know if the dissatisfied Trudeau voters will all jump ship to the Tories, but he's not going to have the level of support he had last time.

So the mag pin in my SKS broke off yesterday after I put around 300 rounds through it. I looked at it after it fell off and it was fastened to the spring with the shittiest weld I think i've ever seen.

What do I do now?

For an sks fixed mag youll have to drill a largeish hole in the bottom and weld a hardened steel plug in it, or weld a hardened steel peice to the follower, just fucking leaving and only load 5rds if your a cuck, or load 10 and see just how much better those extra 5rds are

Get a 20-rnd Tapco mag. Generally pinned with a whimpy piece of aluminium. Can literally remove it with a pocket knife. Deal with 5 rounds for the time being, but if it becomes innawoods time you can easily get the full 20 ready. Just a shame that you can't lock back the SKS bolt easily, and I also find that for some reason I can't remove a Tapco mag while the bolt is closed. It has to be empty. Not that I want to swap mags anyways; clips are fine by me. I just find it odd.

I had one SKS with a cylindrical piece of metal welded to the bottom of the arm connecting the follower to the mag spring. It weakened the metal, somehow it got jammed in the magazine at one point, and when I forced the mag cover open the 'arm' snapped in half at the point of the weld. It sucked. That's why I had to get the Tapco mag to begin with. I looked for someone who was good at welding for months but couldn't find anyone, and never bothered looking up a gunsmith. Fuck it. Tapco mag isn't bad anyways, and I think it looks kinda cool.

If you're Canuck, just get something by Norinco. Great for plinking. Ought to be able to get a Chinese TT33 for, what, $200? Perhaps even one in 9x19 if you'd rather that? You can get a Norc M1911 for about $350, and I think the Norc Hi Power and CZ-75 is around $300 if I'm not mistaken. At least, that's what I recall 5-7 years ago. Might have gone up a bit, but I doubt if it's by much.

Joining the naval reserve in Vancouver as ncm. I'm planning on staying only for a couple of years primarily for a but of fun and some income on the side to help out with finances while I'm going into school for trades.

Any tips or suggestions?

I'm thinking of going into the Port Inspection Diver trade.

Does pay or anything else differ by trade?

I posted this on the military enlistment general but got no response.

I hate seeing non-wooden stocks on an SKS. It's just not right. Painted ones either. I had a bubba-fucked Mk.III* Lee Enfield, Lithgow (Australian), and I swear it was sporterized with a fucking hatchet or some shit, and it was painted black. I think they used literal house paint on it. I actually was given it for free during a trade on CGN since it had no bolt or magazine, but man, the rifling was GORGEOUS! Got a bolt, got a mag, and gave it to my best friend for his birthday along with a few rounds of .303. Good fellow, haven't seen him in quite a while, I hope to see him again soon. >Steel cased is cheaper but allegedly wears down your barrel faster

>Something that doesn't touch the barrel wears down your barrel faster

Silly.
>>
>>33076559
Steel is typically stronger than brass. This is a good trait to have for higher pressure loads.

Higher pressure wears down your barrel faster.
>>
>>33076559
Like I said, "Allegedly". Lucky Gunner did a test where they put 10k rounds of various steel cased ammo through rifles, and they had worn out their barrels faster than with brass cased.

That said, they also did this test in a day or something like that, or in a very short time frame at least, which probably accelerated things since the barrel would be constantly heated up and such.

I'm just having a hard time financially justifying the cost of ammo I shoot through my AR, steel cased is more appealing for sure. I don't shoot a helluva lot either.
>>
>>33076634
The LuckyGunner test was only concerned with cost. Trying to draw any conclusions from their data is stupid.
>>33076578
The pressure does not change.
>>33076559
High pressure hot gas wears barrels. Steel case tends to use very cheap powders with high ntroglycerin, high temperature, and very little in the way of burn moderating chemicals. As the Brits learned 100+ years ago this leads to rapid bore erosion.

tl;dr: they're trying to both, get the anxious preorder people to not pull out their money and think the twice the wait they were promised will be worth it because of how limited and exclusive the deal will be, AND try to endure panic buying with the people on the fence, to get them to preorder because they'd rather go all in than wait 3 more years, losing the chance to get on the deal

Harper's sanctions? Never heard of them. So he's restricting newly-made Russian firearms from being imported, like the 1980s ban in the US or something? In the short-term, I don't mind; milsurp is preferred anyways. As more designed are developed over the years however, I'd hate to be denied them, even though we can't get AKs as it is. We need to fix that. The AK and FAL ban must be something that originates from the Cold War. "Right arm of the free world" sounds 'too powerful' for mere civilians, and the AK? Ubiquitous with Commies, terrorists, and death. Shit like that scares the Libbies.

On a side note, is anyone else having difficulties posting today? Fucking 'Connection error.' Maybe it's just me.

>>
How easy is it to ship ammo from the U.S. to Canada? 7.5 Swiss is way cheaper there apparently.
>>
>>33080073
On the Canadian side I believe you just need to pay the sales tax and duty and there's a 3000 round limit for an individual personal transaction IIRC.

On the American side you need to acquire an export permit.
>>
>>33080142

So can I order ammo from an American site just as I would from a Canadian one (but with extra shipping costs etc.)?
>>
>>33080159
AFAIK there are websites that do it and just import things in mass to economize, but it's basically a headache. Otherwise people would be ordering their ammo from the states more frequently.

>Robinson Arms did fix their shit this time around right?

I shot a 7.62x39 XCR once, some stranger at the range had it, and was using some typical green-box 10-rnd clip SKS stuff. He put a water bottle up downrange at either 50 or 100m. It was getting a bit dark too. He handed me the rifle, I aimed, took a moment, sloooow trigger pull, and I killed everyone at the range and took the rifle home. Some say the bottle still stands there today. Kidding; I hit the bottle and we were all "WOAH! Nice shot! You got it in one hit!"

Felt good... that was probably around 2010-11 or so, and of course up in good ol' Canada.

Take it with a grain of salt. It's pretty good, but I believe it was more meant for American users.

I just picked up a Ruger P85 in 9mm. You can dig a little and find the P Series on a lot of websites in used sections or consignment sections for decent prices. This one cost me just over $275 which was a lot lower than the $399 a few other places were asking.
>>
>>33071483
If not too poor and willing to save a little you can always try to hunt down one of those 9mm Jericho Range kits when they go on sale.
>>
>>33081185
First gun I ever shot. Ruger centerfire pistols have a reputation of being low-quality poorfag fare, but I suspect that's more elitism than reality. 275 is a ridiculous price for a beater handgun, cheaper than Norinco.

The P Series are indestructible. Bulky, yeah, but solid all over and I've never had a jam.
