If you could have only 1 AR-15 for SHTF, what length would you go with and why?
>>
Probably 16" especially if house clearing.
>>
>>33038772
16", velocity, compact with suppressor, compatible with my acog
>>
>>33038772
colt 6920 because it's the only correct choice.
>>
>>33038772
14.5
>>
>>33038834
this.
>>
16" mid-length, any other answer is wrong.
>>
>>33038811
Fudd.
>>33038834
Why?
In the extra 1.5" of length from 14.5 to 16 you get the same velocity increase as 16 to 20.

Negligible additional weight/length for an extra +/- 90 fps? 16 is the way to go.
>>
>>33038772
20 with a collapsible stock
however if i can get a suppressor 10.5
>>
Depends on the ammo, if m855a1 10.3" with suppressor.

probably a 12.5 inch mini recce. live in south so almost all shooting lanes are sub 250 yards.
>>
OP here
Good start to the discussion.
Looks like a lot of people are gravitating towards 16". Is there value in going 20" or is it not worth the extra weight and length for general purpose? I'm from the south so I'm looking for rural vs urban comparison
>>
20"

>because its the most reliable

>muh velocity and explosive fragmentation

>will actually penetrate armor
>>
>>33039325

20" will eat armor
>>
>>33038772
10"
Good enough for SOG us good enough for me.
>>
>>33039345
What velocity go you even need to go through plates?
>>
>>33038772
12" with a can
>>
>>33038772
Rifle length everyday. Who knows what ammo I will end up with, but I know the rifle length will eat it all and be more effective with it.
>>
>>33040178
One thing I noticed is that finding 20" uppers are not the easiest to find. Either they're sold out all the time or only a few companies sell them. Should I wait and get a 20" upper/barrel or just go for a 16" barreled upper to finish a build I'm on, assuming I wanted it for my primary long arm.

14.5
>>
>>33040537

Why does that 20 rn mag look like that?
>>
>>33038772
24" barrel because dat velocity.
>>
>>33040506
Obvious answer is 18"
>>
>>33040506
16" is fine but you can find basic 20" uppers for less than $400 if you look around
>>
AK"
>>
>>33040558
He super glued two 20rd mags together
>>
>>33040506
this>>33040592
>>
>>33040592
Interesting...is there a reason why AR companies sell more 18" than 20"?
>>
>>33038941
>Fudd
Learn what that term means before you go throwing it around.
>>
>>33040715
Because there is virtually no difference in velocity between 18" and 20".
>>
since shit will never hit the fan, I think I'm good with a 20 inch m16a1 replica

Cool insight. Did not know that
>>
>>33041011
>average fps diff between 20 and 16 is like 90
Lol muhvelocity
>>
>>33040093
I think it's over 3100 fps for level 3 steel plates
>>
>>33039345
Found the non autist.
>>
>>33038772
14.5" SR-16.
>>
>>33038772
10.5 + 556k suppressor
>>
>>33040558
Also wondering this. Is it some kind of straight 30 round magazine, or is the mag not fully inserted? Looks too long to be the latter though.
>>
>>33038772
10.5
>implying I'll be using military ball and not softpoints that aren't heavily dependent on high velocity to work

Light, concealable, accurate enough for any SHTF need.
>>
>>33038834
Is 14.5 pinned exceptable? I was going to get one with noveske kx3
>>
>>33045188
>Is 14.5 pinned exceptable?
yes

>noveske kx3
useless meme
>>
>>33045221
I just thought it looked cool what would you suggest?
>>
>>33045188
>Is 14.5 pinned exceptable?
No, pinning is gay. Just keep a 14.5" upper on a pistol lower.
>>
>>33047345
>tfw not sure if trolling or just genuinely awful advice
>>
>>33047357
It's perfectly fine advice, you retard.
>>
>>33047364
>rifle meant for ensuring survival in a worst-case scenario
>lol make it have a pistol brace
U funny guy
>>
>>33047410
You stupid fuck, put it on the rifle lower.

>>33047531
why not just build a 10 or 12 in that case?
>>
>>33042228
>not going for the SR-15 as the 16" was what the gas system was designed around.
gross
>>
>>33038772
18'' stainless match barrel, 1:7 twist, low profile gas block, fitted to the upper and BCG by an expert. I'd want to go with maximum accuracy for maximum ammo conservation.
>>
>>33047839
Based on? The 14.5" has a different length gas system.
>>
>>33045188
As long as the retarded NFA lives, 14.5" + pin is a no-go for me

>>

>>
>>33047869
That's pretty muchthe first AR I built was.
>>
>>33048185
No it doesn't. it's intermediate length you noguns fag. only difference is gas port size.
>>
>>33049653
Have fun not going further than 20 yards before any round can't fragment.
>>
>>33050203
>20 yards
more like 150
>>
>>33038772
14.5 or 11.5
>>
>>33050041
Uh, no, are you stupid? It's a custom length for the SR rifles.
>>
>>33050413
Yeah and it's called intermediate length. Dumb nigger trying to play it off. the 16" and 14.5" SR-15/Sr-16s have identical gas tubes.
>>
>>33047839
>not going for the SR-15 as the 16" was what the gas system was designed around.
I want to know what evidence you have to back that up.
>>
>>33050469
>Get btfo
>B...but you have no proof.
kiss my ass
>>
>>33038772

20", the extra velocity is nice to have for hunting and I really don't plan on being anywhere where close quarters combat will be an issue.
>>
>>33050587
And if your barrel was too long, you use the pistol that you really should have anyway
