Savage 11/111 is a solid platform. Mossberg has a couple options that take ar mags. Might consider a savage 11 308 scout rifle since hogs have a reputation of being feisty

AR-10 in 308, or a 300blk/458socom upper for an AR-15.

If you want to have more fun with it, a .45-70 or 44mag marlin would be awesome. Bring a 10mm/44mag handgun with you (though a 9mm would do just fine).

Get an AK.

I know someone that's been using .22-250 for the past two decades to kill countless hogs and loves it. He also used a .38 special revolver and a 4-wheeler.

My suggestion is get an AR-15 or something in .308 if you want muh stoppan power. Shot placement is king. More often than not, you'll find yourself short on ammo and the Walmart in bumfuck Texas might not have your meme round in stock

Either get a Marlin 336 or a Remington Model 8 in .35 Remington.

Beast of a round that will turn the lights out on a hog damn effectively, and good to 200 yards. .35 Remington is hands-down the coolest hog cartridge in existence in my opinion.

The 336 has the capacity advantage of 6+1 and has a stronger action for reload potential, plus can be bought for around the $500 mark. The Model 8 / 81 is semi-auto and holds only 5 rounds but is stripper clip fed, and they'll run closer to a grand.

A bolt action is a non-starter. Hog hunting isn't deer hunting. You aren't shooting to put one down ethically. You are shooting to exterminate as many as possible, which means semi auto at the minimum and belt fed preferred.
