A Savage that goes for the same price as a remington is way better and has better options

i really hope Remington gets their shit together,

not having the definitive strong choice to fall back on like the good 700s sucks

Opt for an older Winchester 70 and never look back.

I have a Tikka T3 in .30-06 and a Savage heavy barrel in .308. Both shoot sweet. The Tikka has a nicer bolt throw. Triggers are both pretty nice.

Ruger Precision Rifle looks totally awesome for the price as well for a tactical style rifle.

Howa 1500. Very affordable, and from all reviews I've heard/read, a very reliable, accurate rifle with several options to suit your needs.

I believe that there were some minor changes from the model 10 to model 11. It's been a while since I've read up on it and my model 11 heavy barrel in .308 just sits in my closet since I've moved and now all I can find are 25 yard indoor ranges.

Mainly availability thing. As companies/firearms get more known and main stream to the average gun owner, then more big/generic gun stores will run them making them easier for the common person to get.

That's why I recommended Savage right at the start for the requirement of "entry" rifle. They are a well known respected company with high availability rates across the country thanks to big/generic gun stores having them.

As people get more into the hobby and want to expand their skills or purchase a "better" firearm then it's now easier for them to make the transition to something like a Tikka or Howa or even a tricked out specialty rifle if they so choose.

>>
>>33047309
Tell her it's a way of honoring them and keeping them known to the general populace instead of removing any and all references to them with the exception of Casino's and letting their culture die in the dark forgetfulness that is todays society.

>>33047309

>>
Cheapskate tier? Savage & Howa. But mostly Savage. CZ used to be here too, but they're slippin'.
Willing to spend something to gain something? Tikka T3 & Ruger RPR.
Once you go above that though, choices become difficult and very personal.
>>
>>33039705
I'll add to this, really happy with mine. Getting an AICS magazine kit and a new stock for mine soon, pretty stoked to see how it'll turn out.
>>
>>33043357

all those compiled "/k/" lists are worthless
>>
Ruger Americans are more accurate than they have any right to be.

If you want something customizable based on the same action, go for the RPR.
>>
I bought a Howa barrelled action for a budget 223 build and I am very happy with it. Savage is also a good options as is Tikka. The Tikka will probably be the nicest and most accurate out of the box but the after market will not be as big Savage or Howas.
>>
>>33039742
>whats the point of a "tactical" bolt action
they are designed to be accurate because the receiver is designed to be bedded to a solid competition stock and is completely freefloated. If you buy a normal bolt action rifle you have to accurize it by bedding the receiver into the stock with epoxy. I cant believe people here are dumb enough to not understand that hunting rifles are not accurate out of the box like rifles designed to be target/sniper rifles
>>
>>33047544
a lot of people don't buy deer rifles online

>>
>>33039705
Isn't that just a howa rebadge?
>>
>>33039391

> Ruger not a budget option
> Ruger also not inferior to the Savage

The Savage wins because you don't need a gunsmith to do ANYTHING on one.

The barrels also are the standard for pretty much anything that isn't a 700. Prefit savages are used in almost all high-end custom actions that don't use 700 barrels and need only a barrel nut to install. You can change Savage barrels in your garage in no time at all. Floating bolt heads make this possible. A Savage with a high end Krieger, Bartlein, or whoever the hell you want barrel will shoot damn near as well as any Mausingfield build will because the barrel and bolt are the most important parts by a mile.

Triggers are also brain dead easy to change out, and chassis systems and stocks are available from any good maker for the Savage nowadays too.

The biggest weakness of savage is heavy bolt lift which is more an annoyance than an actual weakness. This can be remedied with a beefier and longer bolt handle which provides better leverage.

Also, ejection is a little weak compared to custom guns. Noteworthy but not a major issue.
>>
>>33052210
>>33039406

Nevermind, saw your correction to the RPR, which is certainly a nice rifle for the money. I still like the Savage for barrel change outs but the RPR is very nice for what it is.
>>
>>33047544
>if you're the kind of person who refuses to buy guns online or ask your shop to order guns for you
I cannot wrap my head around this. One of my friends overpaid for a 10/22 in a color he hates, just because the store "ran out" of others.

And he's not mentally disabled or anything, he's my age, knows the internet exists and he's used credit card payments online. I just do not understand. If someone else is in the mindset please shed some light

You guys should really stop repeating the same horseshit hearsay about Remington. Most of this garbage is not from first hand knowledge, and usually includes the nonsense about Freedom Group and Cerberus. The fact is, based on the VOLUME of rifles/shotguns etc they produce, there is bound to be some issues.
>>
>>33052216
RPR uses the AR-10 style barrel nut I believe, so barrel changes are easy.

The nice thing about the Murkan is that it's $300 and stupidly accurate for the money. Shoot that for a while, make sure you like it, then drop $1000 on the RPR.
>>
>>33039421
no, and I work at a dealer who sells a substantial number of them

so tell me about these rumored issues you've heard your fellow keyboard reviewers talk about.
>>
>>33054041

It uses a barrel nut but barrels aren't the savage standard, which is the norm for prefits for most makers.

>Their rifles? No thanks m8.

If you haven't used one since the 4x4 (where the shit rep came from), you should give the MVPs a try.

They're good. I'd personally put them above basic Savage. Biggest downside is limited caliber selection, but as long as you want to stick to .308, they're very solid.

Bonus for offering probably the most affordable full-size takedown. (Even if the default stock is fugly)
>>
>>33054944

Savage 10 is just a short action version of the 110, so it's included.

And the Axis is shit unless you're only buying the gun to go out hunting MAYBE once a year until you decide if you like it or not.

Punch her in the dick and then promptly go hunt around for yours. The company was started by a man named Arthur Savage and they got their logo because they supplied a buttload of Savage 99's to some tribe in exchange for using a dude's picture as a logo because it made for a nice 'American West' feel.
>>
>>33043877
For the same price you can build a better rifle without mossberg's shitty bolt design.

For example:
>go to brownells
>buy Howa #6 contour barreled action $400-$500
>buy MDT LSS chassis $450ish (after buying furniture)

Boom infinitely better rifle.
