Muzzle and butt, gives better stability when using it for that and better retention. Mounting the points closer decreases stability and retention but also causes the sling to be in the way a little less as it covers less area.

Pic related is pretty ideal, it's also about the only choice you have with this setup though you can vary the butt attachment. My fancier rifle with railz is usually setup the same but with QD swivels and sometimes I convert to a one point attached to end plate.

The P223 works fine with a light at low light. It's just not good for low light hunting without light. You'll end your day a bit sooner deer hunting, but it'll be just about prefect for night hogs.
