No, he's just fucking with you. You can play them in any order, though I would go Four then Zero then Five. Then Six if you have an Xbox. The PS1 games are all independent and can be played in whatever order. Avoid Assault Horizon. It's not terrible, it's just not like any of the other games.

They're all set in the same universe, but all are standalone stories, so there's no particular chronological order to play them in.
Production order is best, since you can see how the gameplay evolves.

ive never played it but ive invested my self in the stories by watching "Youtube Movie" versions of the games. Reminds me of RE and MGSV where some aspects are wacky and weird but the writing and "power levels" keep the events at a level of believability.
