its kind of a stupid question, I know, but what would be the difference between your average soldier/marine vs your average FBI agent in terms of training and your ability to protect people.

I'm asking because I'm confused, once I pass my BAR, I'd have to choose from both, always wanted to serve but I also want to work as a suit.

Basically this. Both "standard" infantry and "field operatives" will have their shitbags and donut-i-vores, so it falls more heavily on the individuals in these categories vs, say, more selective groups held to strict, measurable standards like rangers, marsoc, or any other special group.

Both their training in hand to hand is basically next to nothing so it would come down to the physical fitness and any experience outside of the standard training package offered by their respective organizations.
