Thread for underdog aircraft, whether they were obsolete or just poor preformers, they still kicked ass.
Curtiss P-36/ Hawk 75
This little beast claimed 1/3 of all German aircraft shot down during the Battle of France. It also claimed over 150 Soviet aircraft in Finnish service, acted as an attacker and escort in British colors in Burma and claimed a Zero during the attack on Pearl Harbor.
The Swordfish definitely deserves a mention for things like Taranto and the Bismarck.

>Fuck your shit, here bomb

fuck you OP now I want to play IL-2 again
Let's not forget Gloster Gladiator. Especially not Hope, Faith and Glory in their defense of Malta against the Italian Airforce.

These were phased out, only for the Germans to find they worked better than their replacement.

Hard to think a better end for the old workhorse

Poor Buffalo. So shit on for it's performance with the Marines at Midway yet the Finns used it so well.
Tally Ho Chaps!

If that ain't a fighting death I don't know what is. One of the most underappreciated aircraft of the war.
Now here's the Mörkö-Morane. The madmen they were, those Finns, that they re-engined their M.S.406s with Soviet-captured Klimov M-105Ps, and did some other changes as well.
Underpowered with not super charger, the P-400 fought some pretty desperate defensive actions and attack missions during the Guadalcanal campaign.

The Finns can make any old piece of shit work.
>>33029629
It's more of the poor showing of the Soviet Air Force than in any qualities of the Buffalo. Not that I'm downplaying the skill and determination of Finnish pilots.

>simple
>reliable
>too low and slow for more modern aircraft to engage
>inherent radar S T E A L T H due to wood/fabric construction

need I say more?
