For .308 you can't go wrong with buying Vortex.

The Vortex Viper PA 6.5-20x44 or the 6.5-20x50 are very good, plus lifetime warranty.

Check MidwayUSA for the 6.5-20x44, they usually have that one for a smoking deal about $325
The 6.5-20x50 is around $400-$450. You can probably buy a used one on Ebay for less.

How far can it shoot accurately. I'm going hunting in Montana this fall and where I live is more of a brush gun area. Can you shoot out to 1000 yards with that setup.

Buying the same rifle, and already have this scope picked out. Really not going to get anything superb for $300

Second the Primary Arms 4-14 ffp scope. Either the mil-dot or the ACSS reticle for 50 bucks more.

Combine that with the Weaver 30mm Tactical Rings. Made in USA and best value that I could find for 25 bucks (on Amazon).

I got away with the low rings on my savage but you may want to go with medium to be safer.

Should get you out to 1k yards if you do your part. Personally, I think 1k is stretching .308 - will definitely be good for 600-800.
