Why do American have such a hard on for this fuckin Mauser ripoff??
Either go ACTUAL Lee Enfield for her magesty's corgi's, or real Mauser for the Reich..
>>
>>33004055

Do you have any guns at all?
>>
>>33004040
I love mine. They are great guns. Sadly mine are pieced to together from various sources but for being a 100 year old gun it still pefectly.
>>

FPWP.

What if I plain old don't like the 1917? I've never held one and thought "wow, I like this." If I had to have a basic infantryman's rifle of WWI, I'd go with the 98az or a Steyr M95 for that 244grn hunk of burning love.

Done.

best rifle is best rifle. SMLE close 2nd place.
>>
>>33004260
The RSC was waaay more reliable than the Meunier.
>>
>>33004040
What about the BAR, that semi-auto rifle the french had, and of course the SMLE (suck my 10-round dong)
>>
>>33004383
The BAR wasn't really in use it was late to the game.
>>
>>33004413
yes, but it was still a rifle used during WW1, so it qualifies
>>
>>33004415
I thought it had never made it to combat. That being said. I'd fit it more in the SAW or LMG role than an infantry rifle
>>
>>33004040
Can't argue that. A shame that it's so heavy and cock on close. But it still gets 40 out 52 possible points, so it's a top tier rifle.
>>
>>33004442
No, it did see minor usage in france, and would have seen much more usage had the war dragged on into 1919. It was used I think primarily as an LMG w/ bipod but was still technically a rifle
>>
>>33004449
>not liking cock on close
do you even cycle speed
>>
>>33004488
I've played with a lot of cock on close guns in my time and found them slower if anything. If the bolt isn't set just right, they won't fire, so I've constantly had to go back and slap the handle down after I've chambered a round.
>>
>>33004040
It was a lot better than the M1903 Springfield, that's for sure.
>>
>>33004526
Slow cycling and failure to put your rifle into battery would be a training issue.
>>
>>33004325
Lol no, the Meunier was, and remained the most reliable and most technologically advanced gun in the world up until the Garand and MAS40, while the RSC was heavy as sin, unreliable and all around pants on head retarded with the way it was loaded, lack of last round bolt hold open, etc. Its only redeeming feature is that it used standard 8mm ammo, which didn't help for reliability.
>>
>>33004550
No, it's a inherent flaw in the system. Never had a problem with cock on open rifles. My Type 30 can be rotated too far down and also be out of battery. I have to nudge the safety hook down to get it to fire. My Type 38 has a similar problem.
>>
>>33004040

You can't just claim some thing without giving reason behind it, then to tell ppl to prove you wrong and saying they can't. That sounds like a faggot right there.

Also obvious you never shot one or even own one. So fuck off fag boy.
>>
>>33004610
>Doesn't know that saying prove me wrong is 100% bait
>Actually typing out faggot
Wow, it's like you're a newfag. Maybe you should fuck off instead.
>>
>>33004040
What are your qualification for what is allowed. Is it bolt actions that where the primary arm of a country that fought in WW1 (because note that the M1917 was not the primary arm of the US and the P1914 was not the British primary arm either)? Is it any arm used by a country that fought (note that that would include a few semiauto rifles)? Is it just the gun that you like that existed around WW1?
>>
>>33004040
You misspelled Mauser 98
>>
>>33004846
Afraid not. In fact the Gew98 is 2 pts lower than than 91/30. 31-33. Nowhere even close to the M1917.
>>
>>33004961
how does the 98 score lower than a mosin? or is there some massive difference between the Mauser 98 and the 98k other than barrel length. That i don't know about.
>>
>>33005099
Sights, weight, and length.

Op is correct. It's better than both the enfield and Mauser because it's the best of both made into one rifle. Mauser/Enfield fags are all salty

OK chief, if you say so.
>>
>>33004538
How do you figure. I thought the 1903 was the primary service rifle and the 1917 was just filling in the gaps
>>
>>33005627
Though the 1917 was a 2nd line rifle, roughly 2/3 of US rifles in ww1 were m1917s
>>
>>33005721
I did not know that. Were they just faster/easier to make?

Ive never handled either so i dont know too much besides theyre both .30-06
>>
>>33004598
Jesus, name fags used to at least own guns. You're not even trying.

First gun I ever shot was my grandpa's 1917. When he passed last year one of my anti gun cousins took it and was trying to decide if he wanted to sell it or destroy it. I told him that the gun was a piece of shit and he'd be lucky to get anything for it and he believed it, so I told him I'd take it off his hands for $150. His dumb ass agreed and that's how I got my 1917 for dirt cheap. This rifle has more sentimental value than any other gun I own, one day I will pass it down to my kids.
>>
>>33005765
There was about 1 million M1903 made before production was halted because of problems in 1917. By the time the AEF was fighting in 1918 there was over a million of M1917 made and by the time production had ended there was almost 2 and half million made. Although, they only made half a million bayonets with 4 million scabbards...
>>
>>33004164
>I've never held one
You could've just stopped at this and your opinion would be equally valid
>>
>>33006620

>>
>>33005792
>name fags used to at least own guns
Found the newfag lol. Nobody on /k/ owns guns
>>
>>33004040
The 98 action had better gas handling characteristics in the event of a pierced primer, case separation, or other ammunition failure. This was particularly important in WW1, when smokeless powder was still quite variable in performance from batch to batch ("The Gun and its Development", W.W. Greener).

While not quite as good as the 98, the features of the SMLE also were slightly better for gas handling in the event of failure. With the P14 action, gas would be directed right towards the shooters eye down the raceways.

>>33004040
shit A E S T H E T I C S compared to No1MkIII
>>
>>33005895
Yea did good getting it off him and I'm sure you'll take much better care of it.
Also is that a replacement barrel on it?
It looks like mine that has a 2groove barrel.
>>
>>33005895
>Having to scheme and pay money for something your grandfather should've left you in his will and made sure to pass on to his grandson..
Aggy daggy

My grandfather is leaving ALL his rifles to me since my older brother is too irresponsible, and my sister doesn't care about them
>>
>>33004040

> Arbitrary item X was/is da best weapon during Y time period/ evar/ to date

>no supporting arguments and evidence/ autisticly listing off small bits of minutia that ultimately did not make a lick of difference or set it apart from other weapons of said time period/ utterly subjective and opinionated bullshit/ trash talking other weapons contemporary to it warranted or not to make arbitrary weapon X look better in comparison

>and the cherry on top "Prove me wrong. Pro tip: you can't"/"Debate me"/"Fite me"/ or some other equally pretentious, uncreative, or otherwise boring remark
>>
>>33005895
That sucks you had to sheme for it. My grandma is antigun but in the way that she gives me her father's, my great grandfather's rifles becuse she respects family property and knows I'll take good care of it even if it goes against her personal politics.
