The accident also killed U.S. Army Brigadier General Don Forrester Pratt, assistant division commander of the 101st Airborne Division, who was the highest ranking Allied officer killed on D-Day of the Normandy Landings. Two other passengers, 1st Lieutenant Lee John May and Lieutenant Colonel Mike Murphy survived the crash, both severely injured. The accident occurred as the glider was landing and skidded on wet grass, overrunning the landing zone and subsequently striking a hedgerow line of 40-foot-tall (12 m) poplar trees. >After seizing Badoush Prison near Mosul, the gunmen from Islamic State, also known as ISIS, separated the Sunni from the Shia inmates, then forced the Shia men to kneel along the edge of a nearby ravine and shot them with assault rifles and automatic weapons, 15 Shia prisoners who survived the massacre told Human Rights Watch. In my case it wasn't tragic since he died after early onset dementia rather than by being slaughtered, but it was surreal reaching into the box of my dad's ashes and scattering them at the beach he always loved to visit. Like literally having my hands full of his ashes with little tiny bits of bone.

And that poor guy knowing the corpse he's carrying was once his brother or his father or his son or daughter or whatever. That's rough.

>>33009528

On the one hand always remember that just because others have it worse doesn't mean you can't have it badly since it's like going "Why are you happy other people have it better". But on the other hand having that perspective and realizing how shit others have it can do wonders for depression or your own troubles. Just telling myself "I'm not Syrian and I'm not in Syria" alone can pretty rapidly dismiss the spectre of envy or depression about my state of existence right now. Not making light of their situation just that it could be a whole lot worse. We could be in ISISistan >>33009476

Yeah the Iranians were going full dystopian revolutionary spirit during that war. And there's a tragedy when you realize the endless cycle of how back in the 80s it was then the gen xer equivalent suffering in Lebanon and Iran and Iraq (and to an extent briefly in Syria with the Hama uprising), who are now in power and control for the most part and it's now their version of millennials and gen Z that are having their lost generation in Iraq and Syria. Not faulting the generations because the circumstances of geopolitics and whatever are often beyond their control. Just the brutality of endless suffering. That's not even counting Afghanistan which has had war footing for the most part uninterrupted (brief few year interludes of lower intensity) for upwards of 40+ years. I think you'd only find something like that with the Congo, at least elsewhere it'd be a lower intensity insurgency boil rather than full on destabilizing war.
>>
>>33009880
Again, I'm against blanket statements towards Islam/Arabs.

Iran-Iraq War was brutal, and quite desperate at times for both sides, that can't be emphasized enough.

Children were a resource, and wouldn't be surprised that there was some edict from the Ayatollah saying it was "halal"

When I was in Iraq (06-07), both Sunnis and Shiites militias were continuously targeting civilian targets. A retaliation for a retaliation.... etc. Was a retarded cycle that continues to this day.

Again not a blanket thing to Muslims, just the shitbag extremists who buy into their own bullshit far too much.

Some of the nicest, and most generous people I met in Iraq were Muslims.

...Yes. This actually happened, and it is actually quite feasible that a Russian machine gun or even a Browning M2 were used in western Europe.. The Germans, especially volunteer and auxiliary units, extensively used captured weaponry and foreign weaponry made in factories in occupied countries (for instance, Browning Hi-Powers and vz. 24 rifles were issued widely following the occupations of Belgium and Czechoslovakia, and they actually converted a bunch of captured PPSh-41s to 9x19mm). Here's a picture of German troops using a captured Browning M2, which was deployed in small numbers on the Western Front (generally captured stock, although I read somewhere that they had some manufactured in Belgium, but don't quote me on that). The Germans were actually pretty notable for using a ton of foreign weapons captured or made in captured factories on captured tooling.

I was a teenage delinquent. Stoner shit, petty crime... dumb stuff. I decided to get my shit together when I was 17 and graduated with a good GPA. I'm currently at a pretty good college and on track to a nice life. Some friends of mine took the same route I did and I check in with them occasionally. They're starting families and getting degrees and working their way up the totem pole at office jobs and stuff. Another friend of mine (older guy who was a senior when I was a freshman) joined the Army and deployed to Iraq. When he came home on leave and stuff, he always seemed pretty upbeat. After a tour or two in Iraq, he deployed to Afghanistan. Not sure what unit or anything, but he ended up leaving the military after two tours in Afghanistan. Thing was, after Afghanistan he wasn't the same upbeat good-'ol-boy from rural CA. He'd stare off in the distance when he heard car horns, and cell phone ringtones that were like generic beeping would make him super anxious. Stuff like that. We went hiking once in the Sierra Nevada foothills like we used to as kids, and some helicopters flew over us (I'm assuming out of Beale AFB near Marysville). Looked like Chinooks. Anyways, we'd get Chinooks flying overhead every now and then because we were near a base and all that. They were loud, even when they were super high in the air. When my friend heard them on our hike, he lost his shit and went charging off into the bushes. It took us an hour to find him, and when we did he was covered in mud and laying low in some grasses on the bank of a creek with his Mora knife in his hand.. We were all worried about him and all that and told him he should get a therapist, but he wouldn't even consider it. I stopped hanging out with him after a while because he started drinking heavily and got violent, beating his girlfriend and trying to start fights with friends. I don't know what happened to him because he just skipped town one day. I miss him.

I can't. He's just kind of disappeared. Nobody knows where he's gone off to. He's probably homeless and might be dead for all I know. It just wasn't safe to be around him anymore. I stopped associating with him because he slugged me and threw a bottle at my car when I called him out for taking out his trauma on his girlfriend. We tried to get him a therapist and we trying to talk to him about stuff. We tried to get him to go to AA, and at the end of it all he was about a week out from a court date after being arrested on a domestic violence call after breaking his girlfriend's nose. He was a good friend of mine, but I can't be around him if he's going to drunk all the time and be a threat to me, and I don't want to associate with a wifebeater, even if he's traumatized. I love him, but he just became impossible to be around and I don't know how to get into contact with him now.

Fellow Iraq war veterans, do not feel bad.
We gave the Iraqi people a chance.
That is all we could ever give them.
A chance.
What they do with that chance is up to them now.
Unite together to expel the barbarism of ISIS, or unite together under ISIS and form an Islamic caliphate.

In Iraq I saw women holding up purple ink stained fingers in a show of defiance to vote, they faced death to vote.
I saw more audacity and reckless hope in those women's purple dyed fingers then I could have dreamed of in my greatest fantasies.

There is still hope for the hadji.
I have seen it with my own eyes.
Their spark is not yet extinguished.
What we did there was not for nothing.
I refuse to believe that.

In one section it mentioned being bunkered down with radiation outside, and for the officer to send the lowest ranking man outside to check radiation levels with a dosimeter, and basically just keep doing that until it was either safe to leave or if he ran out of men.

Trying to contextualize myself in their position I can definitely understand the tit for tat. While it's easy to bitch about the tribalism it's also completely understandable, we just escape it because of our social development mitigating the natural factionalism to arise from locality or ethnicity. It's a lot more than just the archaic nonsense of caliph succession - it's pretty much become an ethnicity as if sect were language or appearance. If the law failed and you could reach out and butcher the cocksuckers who rape and murder your own or brought the whole 2008 financial crisis to a head damn straight I would. It'd take a real far-sighted sage to hold back.

Obviously no such apologism for the domestic jihadist. Whiny limp-dick faggots face the ennui and insecurities and inhumanity of modern existence for young males and instead of turning to drugs, waifus, vidya gaems, alcohol or low tier gangsterism or the rare spree shooter they try and bring the madness their folks ran away from back home. Oh people look at you differently and mistreat you abloobloobloo join the club of nerds and betas and any primary school girl that isn't the top of the foodchain. Wish their fathers and uncles would lynch those "Abdul wants to be a cool jihadist their family ran away from" faggots.

Can't help those who won't help themselves and you tried up to the point of being a danger to you and others. If he's alive there's always a chance for redemption and hopefully he'll reach it but there's no onus on his girlfriend or you to take hits so he doesn't have to hit himself. Even birdshot at that range would have no time to spread whatsoever. I'm leaning towards a birdshot load, not necessarily slug/buck. A slug should have made an exit and put a mark or hold in whatever's behind his head. All the blood that flew seemed to come from the entrance wound.
Even the birdshot ammo brands you use can make a world of difference in how it acts. Pic related is a 10 yard test I did. I intentionally buy the stuff that sucks at spreading through chokes because it's a lot of fun for very cheap vs something that peppers a wide area. It's a little wax-sluggish in how it acts since it keeps such a tight clump.

>Caused by the British, the crater resulted when the 19 mines they dug and placed underneath the German positions near Messines in West Flanders was detonated on 7 June 1917. A total of 10,000 soldiers were killed in the blast, amongst those casualties was nearly the entire 3rd Royal Bavarian Division.

In the history of man, the blast is considered to be the biggest non-nuclear explosion, and was heard in both Dublin and London.

>Two US Army soldiers wounded in an IED blast console each other as they are treated on board a medical evacuation helicopter from Charlie Company, Sixth Battalion, 101st Aviation Regiment near Kandahar, Afghanistan, on Sunday, June 13, 2010."This image was taken in the summer of 2010 during the height of Obama's surge in southern Afghanistan where I spent a few months embedded. The two soldiers' vehicle had just been blown up in an IED on the highway close to Kandahar and they are seen here consoling each other as they are rescued. I remember the confusion and emotion I felt when taking the photo. I had this overwhelming feeling of guilt that I was intruding on such a painful and private moment but also realised the poignancy and power of what I was seeing through my camera and that I had to record it."
