We've "replaced" them with Superhornets of all things and the F35, which is a replacement for the stopgap hornets that replaced the Mirages, is supposed to also take over some of the strike capabilities of the Aardvark.

Our doctrine has since become "Pls no bully", with our air force rapidly trying to place more forward air bases (Butterworth became REALLY important with the retirement of the Aardvarks), and out continued reliance on ANZUS, leaving us forever as the lap dog of the US and placing our entire defense strategy against China on the US' shoulders.
If the US goes isolationist and China gets imperialist, we are beyond fucked.

They're building up, and no matter how good the F-35 will be (despite its shit house range), China will have the second largest fifth generation fighter fleet in under a decade.
They're building up their CSG potential, training on the Varyag now so that when they have actual carriers they have trained pilots and crew.
They're building some of the biggest man made islands of all time in the SCS and they're building their Navy.
As it stands, if they wanted to take the North, we could do nothing to stop them without US intervention.
In a decade they could take WA as well.
In two decades they could take the continent.

Don't underestimate China, it'll be the death of us.

I disagree, with their current state I don't think it's a given. They haven't had any real world military experience for decades (shooting monks in tibet doesn't count) and their capabilities are overstated, at least as an offensive threat.

Of course they could just nuke us or even just our airbases so there is that.

Also as long as Pine Gap is an integral part of the US defense/intelligence network, the US will pretty much be obligated to defend us.
