the first "batman" was literally a guy in a trenchcoat with a black car who shot criminals after tracking them down via detective work. Pretty sure they only changed him because of the 10 other characters from the period almost exactly the same. Classic silver age Batman was essentially the phantom without a set of 1911s

theres also that alternate universe batman who after seeing thomas and martha wayne brutally murdered killed the shit out of the guy who did it with his own gun and became the red hood (tire iron robin with the guns and penchant for murder) on steroids
>>

>>32996104
This DOES make sense in some inherent way for what Batman is and what he does.
>His parents were murdered with a gun, which he saw, and was threatened by as well.
>He doesn't like killing, even in cases when that's probably the best option.
>He's very dedicated to the law.
>He also socializes with rich liberals during the day, when he's not Batman.
It's an entirely reasonable position for Bruce Wayne, and therefore Batman, to have. The comic actually explains it.
>>
>>32998491
I wouldn't say he's necessarily anti-gun either. Just personal resentment + adherence to the law
>>
>>32998514

But doesn't he regularly break the law?

>breaking and entering
>assault
>breaking speed limits
>altitude and zoning limitations for general aviation
>property damage
>tampering with crime scenes
>>
>>32998491
that brings up the whole idea behind gun control, people basing their viewpoints on their experiences with guns (or inexperience with guns) and assuming that everyone else should have the same viewpoint as them because they project their own opinions onto other people

while i love democracy, i think its eternal flaw will be that people will argue subjective points for their entire lives even if the issue they're arguing over has a very clear solution (not that im saying every issue has an objectively correct solution)
>>
>>32998491
Batman is notorious for ruthlessly brutalizing petty thugs and what he does could best be described as vigilantism. He's a psychotic millionaire who hates guns and irl would be Bloomberg
>>
>>32998514
>>32998587
I only said it wasn't out of character, not that I agreed with what they functionally did with the content of the pages themselves.
>>
>>32998613
im still angery
>>
>>32998564
Batman is autistic with the law. He will randomly preach complete adherence to law then beat a guy within an inch of his life. Also different batman incarnations differ in how much he breaks the law.
>>
>>32998317
It's funny how they attribute the damage done by a gun as something unholy and horrible, even though the ring is a weapon and their powers are weapons and they level cities every time they fight monsters, but feel nothing towards that.
>>
>>32996589
I like the one where he's BatDad, kills villains, has the Penguin as an employee, Catwoman is Oracle and the Joker is his wife (which makes a shit load more sense as to why he won't kill her).
>>
>>32998564
Also, I don't think he got a building permit for that giant basement he has or got it assessed for his property taxes.

And since this is NY, property taxes fund the schools. Which means that Batman is literally defrauding the Gotham school system for millions, ensuring a lower standard of education and perpetuating the school to prison pipeline that creates so much of the trouble that consumes Gotham.

PS: Batman should stop arguing about the utility of a ring that can't do anything to yellow.
>>
>>32998566
This is why I love the great market place of ideas concept. Cooler heads always prevail, overriding bad ideas and bringing us closer to the center in politics.

>PS:

That's outdated form of writing. It saw common use when letters were a main form of communication over distance. People would use PS (post script) to add in things they forgot instead of rewriting a whole new letter.

In the digital age, new thoughts can easily be slipped into digitally written text without the need for completely rewriting them.

With regards to Batman "defrauding Gotham", he probably more than makes up for it with donations to schools and shit.

I don't need to see the end to know that the moral of the story will invariably be some version of "guns 're le bad" and maybe with some grey areas in between so the author doesn't look like he is trying to push for an agenda.

Upon confronting her, Bor goes on what can only be assumed to be a politically incorrect tirade against Angela, as indicated by the author’s self-censored black-bar redaction notes in.

The Bundys aren't even from Oregon either. They come here all hot and bothered from Idaho and demand that Oregon land (and all other public land) be opened up for ranchers, miners and loggers to despoil. As an Oregonian it made me furious. Apparently not, just a couple of weeks ago, Marvel came out and essentially said they're going to be focusing on actual stories and leaving out political bs. The Angela Queen of Hel story line being one of the main factors in that decision. Marvel is starting to see that comic readers don't like their PC bullshit being shoved down their throats, and their seeing the rapid decline in sales as proof of that.

See, this is what drives me nuts. Clark is the son of a non-corporate farmer in -rural- Kansas. Jonathan Kent, at least in the nineties, was in the service as a young man.

Coming from almost that precise background myself, I -sincerely- doubt that Jon or Clark would be anti-gun. Batman makes sense, given his origin. But Superman, being in almost all respects a living weapon, shouldn't.

Clark should at the very least be the proponent of responsible ownership, especially given his power set. Superman is all about that kind of responsibility.

I'm not a big capeguy but I always liked superman over batman. Superman intentionally aims to be that larger than life superhero, a king arthur. Batman is a milquetoast anti-hero like one of those japanese half-assed anti-heros who is brooding and mealy mouthed edgy. He's not full edge full anti-hero like the based Punisher (who is fucking awesome as hell), and he's not full ideal full heroic like superman.

And then you have the blatant selfish nature of his whole oath to not kill. Just about groaned when he delivered that remark in the first nolan movie of "I won't kill you - but I don't have to save you".

I loved batman beyond though.

For when it was written it does make sense.

My great grandfather was old and rural and apalled when he learned that my dad took me shooting "for fun". As far as I know he only ever owned a single shot break action that he used for putting down livestock and hunting.

Those 'one shot per minuet bench rest only no fun allowed' ranges are a holdover from when most people who owned guns did so for purely utilitarian reasons. I can easily see old country folk telling young Clark Kent "don't ever touch a gun, its dangerous and you might kill somebody" and that being his entire experience with them outside of criminals shooting at him.

It's from the Injustice: Gods Among Us prequel series
essentially, this is the timeline where the Joker nuked metropolis and killed Lois Lane(along with superman's unborn child)
Because of the trauma of losing his home a second time, Superman goes full authoritarian and his morals start slipping as well(eventually he joins the Sinestro corps and murders half of the Justice League because 'they're a threat'). Pretty sure a few pages just before or after that, Superman permanently cripples some guy who stands up to him when he tries to put down an anti-superhero riot.
This all culminates with Emperor Superman ruling the world through fear, and anyone who opposes him gets beaten into bloody chunks.
>>
>>33000131
Other way around, from what I remember.

They tried to pay, and the government refused to accept the payment, under the novel legal theory that if they didn't accept the payment, they could declare them in violation and kick them off, whereas the enabling statutory language didn't grant them that power without going back through Congress to get it modified.

Kind of like closing the registry on full-auto weapons, except without the fig-leaf of a supposed congressional vote to make it legal.

Take your tvtropes can't kill hitler bullshit elsewhere. The point is batman wouldn't kill anyone despite being this super-intelligent detective. Any idiot can figure out Joker kills more people every time he inevitably escapes from Arkham. Yet, don't kill him, justice in the most corrupt city in the world, amirite?
Seriously fuck batman. He's the type of person who calls you a bigot for wanting to screen mudslimes while he sits in his mansion behind million dollar security.
