1. I remember seeing somewhere a neoprene pad that was ment to stick on the stock and raise your line of sight.
2. They make target stocks with a scope comb built in

cut foam pipe insulation to fit, and then wrap it in camo cloth or duct tape.

Looks like the upper receiver exploded. The bullet looks like it left the barrel, given the gas escape seen out the front right before the explosion.
