High rof, large magazine, crazy spray up close (unless you tap the trigger), can full auto without overheating, decent range in normal fire but when the tag is fire (which has sniper level range if you are skilled and regard bullet drop..yes, the tag had bullet drop) every bullet will track the target until the enemy dislodges the tag, curving to avoid obstacles (and if in reality, the bullseye bullets would simply punch through the obstacle considering their destructive potential)

Or the dragon from resistance 1 - a flamethrower that becomes a long range flame firing mortar/projectile cannon that was a campers worst nightmare if a player understood the classic grenade arc (I was crushed the dragon never came back as the bullseye and dragon were my main weapons)

Some say a lasgun hits as hard as a .50 BMG as the beam burns on contact but also superheats the blood on the inside thus causing horrific "popping" wounds on people. So be prepared to see lots of ruptured torsos and exploded heads due to you inner goo being microwaved.

Also, Star Wars' in universe armor is meant to absorb energy from blasters, so it's significantly less bad if your actually a stormtrooper, oddly enough.
I'm a pretty big 40k fan, and the lasgun is actually one of my favorite in universe weapons, because you never need to clean it, it has no moving parts, it's perfectly accurate, and can be reloaded from any power source, from standard generators, all the way to throwing your mags in the campfire at night. That'll hurt the strength of the cpacitors, but I could see it being handy as all get out.

As for how much stoppan powah one has, just consider the in game rules, and the fact that lasguns and "stubbers" or other auto guns are all the same stats, and it becomes pretty clear that dan abbnet likes lasguns as much as our lord and savior matt ward likes Space Marines

Even though Vanu are a bunch of alien fetishists, their heat mechanic weapons seem very useful.

Though the Betelguise might be better at straight-up fire superiority, the Phaseshift probably is overall more useful unless you have a small army trying to kill you. Can switch between long-range sniping mode and short-range semi-auto mode.

Plus, no bullet drop.
