I'm doing the 6 minute speech about the history, technology and impact of the AK-47 for one of my classes and was wondering if you guys knew any good scholarly sources I can read on this weapon.

There really aren't any. People like Tantal on AKForum will be about as close as you can get.

The AK-47 was designed in North Korea by Eugen Stoner in 1949. It's name comes from the fact that a bullet can go through 47 prisoners of war bound together. The AK-47 fires a 76.2mm bullet that could easily take out Japanese tanks. It was judged to deadly by the Geneva Convention of Canada and got banned in 1973. In 1974 Russia introduced a new rifle, the AK-74 that fires poisonous bullets. This weapon is still used now by the Navy SEALS and Russian DEVGRU. In 2014 the US government banned the import of poisonous bullets because of numerous school shootings.
As liberal as colleges are they gonna put u on a list..why?

The new rifle for the Russian army will be the AK-12. It's a fully automatic 12 gauge shotgun based on the M-16. The AK-12 is covered in rails to mount laser targetting optics. The switch to 12 gauge caliber was decided because the poison ammo took too long to kill its targets - it's mainly why the Russian army lost the Chechen War (for comparison Russia won WWII using the 76.2mm AK). 12 gauge kills in a more deadly and humane manner - one shot one kill.
My name is Pr. Hector Throcmorton, professor of military history at Rochester University, and I confirm everything that was written so far.

Those digits reconfirm this man's acumen, and his credentials are beyond reproach.
Bump for more historical facts.
German tank hit by AK-47.
Their parents worked in a AK74 factory.
Here is a comparison between the poison bullet (notice the purple poison ring) and a common 5.56x45mm round. Fortunately, the poison isn't water resistant. During the Chechen War, Russian soldiers were exposed to rain, high levels of humidity, and were forced to crawl through mud. The poison quickly washed off.
Here is a close up on the AK-12's receiver. You can see the laser targeting pod mounted on the rifle, and the fire-selector that can be switched to safe, exploding bullets, smart bullets, and normal bullets. Notice also how the gun has no markings - it's a ghost gun, probably made from ceramics to fool airports' metal detectors.
And here is a picture of former Army SEAL Larry Snickers firing an AK-12 mock-up at Kalashnikov's Izhevsk factory.
Forgot the picture
On this picture, the targeting pod can be clearly seen. Also, notice the quality Russian earpro.
Here is a picture from Eugen Stoner, the inventor of the AK-47.
This is a short carbine version of Kalasnikov K (for "Kurtz" or "Stubby")
And here's a picture of Michael H. Von Kalashnikow, a German POW, who was forced to help Eugene Stoner developing the AK. He died in gulag XXII in 1957 from gonorrhea.

Exactly, here's a picture of Eugen Stoner working on this project in 1952.

poor dude had an accident in 1962 where he lost all his hair and gained his purple head which is a russian tradition under people over 60 years old.

It was probably from working on the 5.45mm poison bullets.
