Why not? Just become a good shot and maybe have a big bore for intermediate game?

Let's do a WML thread eh?
>>
>>32985896
What would be the innawoods handgun of choice? Like how the SKS is the innawoods rifle, what would the handgun version be?
>>
>>32985921
Smart choice is probably a wheel gun, .357 mag and up

I'd pick 10mm or some heavy for caliber 40S&W

No
>>
yes, take a wheelie so you won't care if you drop it in the snow, and make sure it can take out a burr.

if you're good with your gat you can attempt durr as well but it's mainly a self defense weapon for burrs and such
>>
you can innawoods with no gun if you want, but at least bring a good knife to make a walking stick/spear

hell when I was in high school we innawoodsed with just cans of beans and whiskey
>>
>>32986046
Well when I say innawoods I mean going into the woods because of some "happening." So not only will the innawoods gun be used for defense from animals, but also people potentially
>>
>>32986066
oh, yeah it's possible with no gun or a handgun but a rifle is always going to be better.
if you go innawoods deep enough and have fishing gear, knife, axe, and the right location plus wilderness skills you could do alright.
but I'd want a rifle too
>>
>>32985771
Yes but learn how to properly make small game traps (snares, scissor traps) to substitute for the hunting ability of a rifle. Caliber should be big enough for the largest predator in the area.

You don't need a gun at all, really. People survived a long time without them. If you had to pick between a good knife and a gun, for example, you'd typically be better off with the knife.

can we get a better pic of that back plate? I actually really like that.

bears?

bear spray, shotgun, big revolver or maybe 10mm

i guess you could kill one with a 9mm but then again you might could kill one by jamming your arm down its throat and stabbing it with a knife but desu bear spray gives you the largest margin for error because it's been scientifically proven bears don't like caustic chemicals in their eyes or lungs
>>
>>32985921
Thompson Contender.
>>
>>32986681
After seeing that video of a guy dropping a moose with four shots of 9mm I feel like unless you are facing a grizzly or polar bear or some quick sneaky cat you could mag dump most things at a black or brown bear. What is going to shrug off 5-10+ hollowpoints?

?

I'm no moose expert but I'm thinking that was a puny moose. and aren't brown bears grizzlies?

friend dropped a grown black bear with a .38spc j-frame. Considering I'm far more worried about other humans innawoods, 9x19 has always seemed adequate, 15+1 and a spare mag in any polyshit, though i prefer da/sa

what problems are you thinking of? like, legal trouble? escalating an encounter with poachers?

as far as animals go, bear spray seems to be the way to go

juicy content locked but examined in:

https://www.outsideonline.com/1899301/shoot-or-spray-best-way-stop-charging-bear

>In March 2012, the Journal of Wildlife Management published Tom Smith and Stephen Herrero’s “Efficacy of Firearms for Bear Deterrence in Alaska.” The paper’s prosaic title didn’t prevent it from grabbing headlines around the country. For the first time, bear researchers had provided compelling statistical evidence that firearms were less effective in protecting individuals against bear attacks than many folks previously believed, including the researchers themselves. Among their conclusions were 1) that “firearm bearers suffered the same injury rates in close encounters with bears whether they used their firearms or not,” and 2) that “bear spray [has] a better success rate under a variety of situations ... than firearms.”

I'd carry both. deploy the spray first, then blast the bear with your sidearm if it isn't deterred or you don't want to wait to see if it is
>>
>>32987117
Study didn't account for the proficiency of the firearm user nor the firearms used.
>>
>>32987163

naturally. everyone's john wick with their firearm and bunta fujiwara when it comes to driving, drunk or otherwise

carry on
>>
>>32987202
Nice refutation nigger, the fact of the matter is that guns will put a bear down if you do your part, statistics be damned.
>>
>>32985953
>>32986563

Dude!! I've used the one in the snow as a wallpaper for ages! I loved it! Can't believe you're on here.

You should totally make more.
>>
>>32987232

so can sharp sticks and teamwork, as many extinct megafauna can attest

feel free to leave the bear spray at home, friend. my advice is for everyone who doesn't happen to have your reflexes or ability to stay cool under fire

>>32985771
Yes you can.
>>
>>32987265
Why are you being such a condescending cunt? Bear spray can very easily backfire on you, and I believe the people who conducted the study didn't account for the factors I mentioned.

I still feel way more comfortable with my M1A than I do with a can of bear spray though.
>>
>>32987117
>what problems are you thinking of?
What kind of woods are you guys going in? I'm talking about wild animals.

What else would be in the fucking woods? I've been going in the woods my whole life, I've only ever seen deer. If I were in a place with wild hogs I'd bring a gun but there's no point here

>>32987053
I live in Ohio
>>
>>32985771

Yes.

>These are legally handguns

Fucking love my M92.
>>
>>32987309
Not the person you're argument with but people are dangerous anon. I got no problem having small chit chat to a hiker, hunter, camper, ect, but on rare occasions people go into the woods to do god knows what else.
>>
>>32987309
Why don't you go shooting while you camp you fucking cuck?
>>
>>32987362
>implying i camp
Camping sucks I just hike or go fuck around in the woods with bros

>>32987353
The only person I ever met in the woods was some 60 yr old hunter lady who asked me if I wanted a set of deer antlers. Though I heard in some parts of the woods there are hobos who live in tents
>>
>>32987353

exactly. I wouldn't go into the wilderness without a gun, a knife and some bear spray
>>
>>32987395
32987353 here, I have been in the woods by many decades too. To each their own experiences. Good for you not having weird ones.

Once two cult looking fuckers came up on me. I'm not green texting this shit. I was out blasting with the remshit 870. Get done, hear them walking. Black pants, white shirts, Floyd from dumb and dumber bowl like cuts. Ask if I can help them. They turn around like robots not saying shit. I always shoot like I camp. Dispursed.

>>32985771
yes
partly because innawoodsing & backpacking are made a bit easier without the extra weight of a long gun

>>32987277
a good choice, i think
>>
>>32987547
Thanks. It's a 44 mag.
>>
in closing, bear spray is like trading a 50-70% chance for a fatal first strike for a 80-90% chance of having a free turn

but don't take my word for it. look up the effectiveness of bear spray vs. firearms for yourselves. try to find three or more sources

being mauled then eaten alive by a bear is a pretty bad way to go. do everything you can to make the chance of that happening as close to zero as possible
>>
>>32987395
You're still a tremendous faggot for saying being in the woods armed "is just inviting problems"
>>
>>32987591
>not dual-wielding bear spray and a 10mm handgun
cuck
>>
>>32987606

>not trading in your jeep or subaru for a surplus bvs10

it's like you want your family to be eaten by zombie bears or raped to death by crossed
>>
>>32987715

>>
>>32987777
