What does /k/ protect their hearing with?
Currently rolling with the ones shown in pic and so far no issues.
Previously had a pair of Caldwells electronic which would stop working after extended use like when spotlighting, anyone have a similar experience?
>>
i just use some 10$ in-ear foam plugs. can't use over-ear because they get uncomfortable quick since i wear glasses and it irritates the fuck out of me every time my stock bumps the muff
>>
>>32978448
Same here but I use the plugs the army gave me
>>
>>32978448
>since i wear glasses
Everybody wears glasses when they shoot. Or at least they should if they're smart.

Peltor Bullseye are the ones I use. They work well when using a rifles.

>>32978427
The HL Impacts are the best bang for buck earpro in existence. Better than everything but the gucci offerings that are 5-10x the price.

>>32978448
Over the ear is always going to have that problem but the impacts are designed better than most. That thin profile works extremely well with a good cheek weld.
>>
>>32978480
i actually completely forgot you have to wear eye protection

having eyeglasses count for it is a blessing i guess
>>
>>32978592
It is. I used to wear glasses but I got eye surgery via the military. Now I have to wear shitty eye pro.
>>
>>32978480
Yeah but if the shooting glasses are deformed or misplaced by the pressure it's no big deal. Now it's a whole new world of this happens with real glasses since you won't see a thing
>>
earplugs plus those howard leight.

Do you guys have any issue with muffs and glasses? Seems my muffs don't seal properly when I'm wearing my glasses.
>>
Um, well, actually NO gun is the best hearing protection. Why do you need protection? To keep yourself from going deaf after shooting up a school?!?1?

I use the non sports version of the HL. Don't remember the name but it has a bigger profile. It has a better rating and I use in ear as as well. You only get one set of ears senpai

I wear ops pic but pink. It simultaneously stands out in my shooting bag and drives away insufferable fudds at my range who wanna redpill me into dumbshit.

Fucker I'm just here to make holes in paper and have a nice time.
>>
do you wear hats with your safety gear? when ever i try this my muffs don't fit properly. does the hat go on top?
>>
Maybe getting some electronic ones eventually.
>>

Try looking for gel cushion pieces.

Depends on the outfit I'm wearing to the range. But I wear the hat under my earpro, and they never got in my way

Bought these as a Christmas present to myself. Real nice, though I've only had a handful of opportunities to use them so far.
>>
Only autists wear over ear hearing protection.
>>
>>32978427
>tfw use those
>tfw their bulk prevents me from getting a good cheek weld on AR
>have to double up on ear pro as it is
>options are either take off muffs and get temporary EEEEEE from running just earplugs
>or have to be at a weird ass angle/miss the shit out of the target
it hurts

Can anyone recommend some good ones with a built in mic for radio work?
>>
>>32978492
i have these as well, pretty much. the "low profile" shotgunner version. it's probably the exact same thing, though.
>>
>>32981229
Try shooting calibers made for men and report back.
>>
>>32981503
Make your jokes now autist but guess what.
I personally shoot 12 gauge slugs and .45 acp so you cant even attempt to say I dont shoot real rounds
>>
>>32978427
I have some custom molded plugs that I got when I worked at a coal plant, they kick ass.
those wax balls that swimmers use work really well too.
>>
>>32981529
>wow it's fucking nothing
I'm talking about magnum rifle rounds and such
>>

whats the difference

I have the Howard Leights and lvoe them. I typically wear mack's earplugs under them too.
>>
>>32981590
The difference between having proper ear pro and not having it.
>>
>>32978427
HL impact sports are so fucking good it's not fair. I use mine while hunting and you can hear a deer fart from a kilometre away
>>
>>32978427
I bought a pair and they worked brilliantly for the first couple of shoots I went on (Britbong here, I got shooting once a month at Bisley with the Rifle Club I'm a member of).

It wasn't long after that one of the ear cups stop amplifying. I changed the batteries and did as much as I could to fix it without complete disassembly. Bit pissed as they are very comfortable and are brilliant ear pro. for the money (when they work!).

STEERING RETENTION TREAD?
>>
>>32981561
Not the guy you're talking to, but last week I was shooting a 7mm RemMag rifle with a ported barrel using nothing but HL Impact Sports and it was totally fine.

And with the porting on that fucker it feels like you're getting punched in the chest if you're to either side of me, and every shot sends a blast of hot air into my face with each shot. It's fucking loud as hell.

My HL impact sports don't seal on my head. Outdoors, I just use HL Lazerlite foam plugs. Indoors, I use plugs and muffs together (borrow a range pair).

>>
>>32984103
All of the arguments they make can also be applies to car mufflers. They make cars harder to hear, and less safe, they make cars run better, and more efficiently. And car violence is a real problem.
>>
>>32978427
>What does /k/ protect their hearing with?
earplugs and earmuffs (double up)
raises the protection to ~16db reduction and maintains reduction at ~13db even if earmuff seal is broken.
(measured, not theoretical/NRR)

Keep in mind, that a decrease of 3db is half as much intensity.

This is true, and why I'm astounded that people enjoy firing guns that routinely run 170+ dB.
That's not hearing safe even when doubled up.
