It was the M1 Garand's competition for the US's main rifle in WWII. A few thousand got made and some were used in the Pacific and Italy.

Not even close.
The Garand was already in production before the commitees took pity on Johnson and agreed to a demo of his rifle. It never had a chance of being a standard or even reserve isue rifle.
He called it the M1941 to try and sell it based on a US military sounding name. Some were used because of the lack of semi auto rifles during the Pacific campaigns and the availability of crates of them for a European contract that never shipped. Even basically being given to the government they never saw much use.
