A very vague question. They usually start around $300 and can go up well past $1k for all the right things align.

Mum was cancelled, but not ground down or anything (seller refused to admit it had been cancelled though). No dust cover or monopod, did have the AA wings. It was a Nagoya rifle. Can't remember if it was all matching or not. I know I can get more for it though.

>friend knows old guy who wants to sell his guns
>old guy said he's too old to fire guns and has no sons, so instead he wants to sell the guns to people who will take care of them and not fuck them up or just sell them for money
>old guy has a Norinco SKS (military, not import) that's in unissued condition
>he wants $300 for it

Should I go for it? It's all matching numbers and in absolutely pristine condition. There's not a single dent or scratch in the wood, and it's shiny to the point of being a reflective surface. The reason I ask is because I don't have a semi-auto gun at the moment (just a Mosin and a Mauser because I'm poor as fuck). Would it be a good gun for general use at that price?
>>
>>32973620
For the States that's a great price I'd buy it. If you don't like it you could always resell for profit.
>>
>>32973620
Sure, SKS are fun and well suited to plinking, hunting, or innawoods. Ammo availability and price are also a big plus

Sometimes I am jealous of you, Canada. Sometimes.

>>32973762

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the bulk of 7.62x39 come from Russia? I thought Trump was trying to be friendly to Russia, with only China/Mexico getting the "fuck you" stance.

I love shooting my mauser but I suck donkey balls at shooting it.

So, being that I've been insanely bored at work today, I came up with a list to "objectively" measure milsurp bolt action rifles, as to how good they are (were) for mass issue to infantry forces. Now, this list is a preliminary scoring system, it isn't the final say I what I think about a particular rifle or how good it was. It's just a starting point.

Now that that's out of the way, the list.

What is the difference between the M1C Garand and the M1D Garand? I know they're both the sniper variants. They're the only kind CMP still has on their website, but the M1C costs like $3000 whereas the M1D costs about $1000, which is like less than their regular service grades go for these days. So what gives? I thought that the M1C was more or less just a regular M1 that was kinda jury rigged to fit a scope and stuff, and the M1D was when they kinda designed it with sniping in mind. The receiver was custom made to fit the optic and they added a flash suppressor, I believe.

So why is the M1C more expensive?

Any tips for cleaning my MAS 36 after shooting?

I had been using Hoppes no 9 but to my horror I found that it can dissolve the black paint.

Fortunately my MAS isn't in mint condition 100% and doesn't have all of the paint (I rather like the patina actually), but I'd still like to clean it after shooting it without unnecessarily damaging the paint.

never said you had to. I paid 250 for each of these Finn captures.

If you could get a Finnish one, they're really nice rifles. Heck even the captured 91/30's usually have some Finnish TLC done. Mine feel like the trigger was reworked and one of mine was even D shanked, so they clearly worked on them. I can't figure out the rhyme or reason to why the work was done on some but not others, but my 1940 Tula seems to have been properly worked on given the bluing, nice trigger, and slick bolt.

I hope so friend, I hope so. It took a solid 2 hours of degreasing to get that off but the stock's finish is shitty and shooting it is a pain because the stock was made for chinese midgets. I'm debating whether I should scrub off the previous finish and apply a new one but I know that lowers the value since I was told the gun hasn't been shot since it was taken out of storage (the amount of cosmoline can atest to this)

To be fair weren't most Soviet troops pretty young/small back in WWII? I mean, the T34 needed the driver to be something like 5 foot tall right?

Then of course they exported a ton of guns to Asians, it's not surprising that some of their guns would have pretty short stocks.

I've been following type 99 Arisakas for a couple months now and have picked up a few in the past. If you want one with a completely untouched mum, matching dust cover, monopod, aircraft sights and a good bore and wood they can get up to 1-1.5k very easily. If it's missing any of those things (especially the mum being ground or canceled) it can take $500-700 off the price. A good non last ditch condition arisaka with no mum or dustcover will cost around $300-400, but really the high value items are the mum and dustcover.

>>32976161
Why are Mum's so hard to find? Did the Japanese themselves deface the rifles or something because they were ashamed of defeat?

Patton allowed them to ground off all the mums before they were confiscated so as not to cause dishonor to give a weapon of the emperors property to the enemy.

>>

lol yea, desu still scared it might go boom but i figure if i shoot milspec i should be fine. 1908 didn't have any failures, the barrel was replaced in 1943 and the bolt was pressure tested.

Yeah as long as you shoot 150 grain M2 Ball then you should be fine. Plus it was rebarreled in 1943 so thats even better. I have an RIA made in 1916 and I have put about 300 rounds through it since I got it in 2012 and I havent had any problems.

Case overpressure (probably due to corrosion inside the case, a common issue with Falklands-era Argie surplus) caused the primer to blow out the back of the case. I had 4 blow out of around 40 rounds fired, though that was the only one where it blew out the entire primer.

The previous owner converted the rear sight leaf into an open sight with a dremel and sanded down the front stock so both had to be replaced.

Then just say something like

"No thanks, that's a bit higher than I'm willing to go. Best I can do is X. If that's too low sorry but that's all I can do at the moment."

You'd be surprised how often people come down for me when I say that. I'm just upfront, tell them "this is what I'd willing to pay right now, otherwise I can't do it, sorry." and a lot of times they'll come down just because they want it gone.

The key thing is being honest about it. I've flat out told people before that my offer is a lowball offer but that's all I have or all I'm willing to pay for it, and sometimes they'll do it just because you weren't a dick about it. There's so many lowballing assholes on the net these days I'm honestly starting to think people are giving me deals just to spite the guy who was a dick to them.

I wish I could find one for that, I really want an enfield but all the ones around here are sporterized WWI rifles. I've had good luck finding Mausers though. I've had my eye on a German 98k that's still got original markings for about $500, but the stock has been refinished and it's not completely matching. I may get it just together my wehraboo out of my system then use it as trade fodder later

I've posted about it in the past. The shop owner is pretty cool and after talking to him for about 10 minutes about how I wanted to collect Milsurp he essentially knocked $50 off everything he had that I was interested in. He used to collect Enfield's apparently so he immediately understood why I wanted to get into it.

I've got a few pics, the rifle isn't bad, it's just not amazing. I kind of got spoiled seeing as my mosins I bought had practically new barrels by comparison to this. It's rifle grooves looked a little soft to me.

It also had a refinished stock and some rust/pitting on the band's, but other than that it's a fair rifle, and honestly seeing as it's a 43 it almost definitely saw use. Would explain the used barrel.

I'll post a few more pics. He also had a mauser with ground Nazi emblems that he said he'd cut me a deal on, no idea what "deal" that means pricewise though.

nothing except the floorplate and I think the trigger or receiver match. The important thing is that I remember the bolt didn't match the receiver, honestly I'm not worried about other things matching. I know the stock didn't match anything else.

Think it's a fair price for a shooter if the barrel isn't completely shot? I wasn't looking at it too hard the first time but if it's a pretty good deal this is honestly probably going to be the only German WWII gun I'll be able to afford for a long time. My goal was to get a rifle from every major power in the war for my collection, so this would cross a big one off the list, and I guess I can always trade up down the line. I was worried he was charging too much for it at the time but I'm still new to all this. If it's a good deal I know it's still there and it shouldnt be too hard to go back this weekend and grab it.

At least with the shape it's in I know it's not a fake one.

Essentially what I'm asking is if you guys saw it in a shop for $500 would you grab it?

I've actually enquired about it in the past. I was the guy who said "if it hadn't been modified with the PU scope I would be down." I'm still interested in the ammo I just need to find a UPS facility that will let me pick up the order at the counter instead of having it delivered to my trailer.

Plus I have a lead on a cheap M39, I just need a free day to drive halfway across the damn state to see it.

I was mainly hoping that guy had an Enfield. That and the M39 are the two big ones on my list that I really want.

I'm pretty sure it specifically mentioned in the USPS terms that ammo was not allowed to be shipped to a PO box at a post office.

I'm gonna be pissed if that's been an option this whole time. I missed a good deal on ammo the other day because I didn't know where I could ship it.

they won't let you deliver it to their stores, at least as far as I can tell. Their rules for delivery are hard to figure what exactly they consider a "pickup center". I'm gonna drop by the local store tomorrow and ask exactly how it works. Hopefully a manager can help explain it better.

Pretty sure USPS refused to touch firearm related stuff period. I'll double check their rules again.

Basically I live out in the sticks and am always in town for work/school/friends, so getting it delivered to my home would be a pain in the ass. I've heard all kinds of horror stories with UPS so I'd rather it just be I pick it up on my terms than waiting all day for the delivery guy only to miss him because I had to take a piss.

News to me. I still see them at $500+ on Gunbroker all the time. And selling at that.

At least where I am at they peaked at 500 with a 60 round brick in 2014, then by early 2015 they went down to 400 and now they are like 350-400 when I see them. People probs just got sick of not being able to get ammo

That seems really high, I've been watching most normal M39's go for $600 or less on Gunbroker.

Ah well. Not too broken up over it though, since I have a nice pre-war 91/30. As long as I have one 7.62x54R rifle.

For military issue you are correct. HOWEVER I've read a couple different accounts of them doing so when surplusing off these rifles to make them more appealing to sportsmen. How true this is, I cannot say for certain. But I've seen other people make that claim.

Other people are wrong. You are wrong.
