You should attempt to angle the gun on the surface in a complementary way to the angle you have your flash bounced. You'll still be able to see the background fine, but the additional light on the gun itself will help draw the eye towards your subject.

Any time you have busy repeating patterns in a background lighter than the subject you run the risk of distracting a viewer's eyes. Another fill light on the gun, or dropping the exposure of the background 2/3-1 stop might be worth playing with; same goes for making a bit more space between them.

I get that the white balance is probably a creative decision but I prefer a standard or slightly cool white balance on guns... that's horses for courses though.

Props for giving a fuck about how your gun pics look though.

If you're taking a picture of something, then your backdrop should not draw any attention away from that subject.

The crinkled foil draws the eye away from the gun because it's bright, it's got lots of sharp angles and lots of strong color contrasts of the sharp color contrasts.

Also, because it looks like aluminum foil, and which just makes the whole affair look cheap and tacky, which then extends to the subject.

Pretty cool but the background is too bright, draws attention away from the gun. I also have some ideas for this photo but it depends if you're just trying to take a cool picture or if you're trying to be artistic.

If you're just trying to make a cool picture, just tone down the background. If you're going for art, I would replace the background with shell casings, spent ones preferably. Mess around with the lighting to have them give a very aurea glow to it. Could make a neat statement about the glorification of war by society. The spent shell casings imply that they were used to further some violent end, and yet they represent beauty (gold) and are shining down on the tool of their expenditure.

I'm not usually into faggy art shit. Not trying to get 2deep4u with it, I just think it would be cool to have a picture that's juxtaposing gold, a symbol of wealth, power, holiness, and prosperity, with spent ammunition, something that (to most people) represents conflict, violence, death, and utilitarianism. Kind of a statement about how one is needed to acquire the other, and it works both ways.
