Californians are the best drivers in the US, hands down. Other states just inherited the traffic. We were born in it, molded by it. Literally all we fucking do is drive. Road tripping is a hobby, a 1 hour drive to work is the average, a 2 hour drive to get somewhere isn't even considered "far." The city government doesn't give a damn about anything but their own agenda, and is one of the most corrupt (or at least unethical) governing bodies I know of in existence pushing ideas and projects that don't have a god damn reason for existing, such as bioswales, bike paths, and a fund for opening new parks. In order, the bioswales are going to become contaminated with heavy metals to the point that the dirt in them is going to have to be sent to a landfill within 10 years, bike paths that they want to put right through industrial area trunk routes (and fudged the EIS for the project the point that they got fucking sued over it, the fuckers literally just wrote "no impact" with no explanation). And while I have nothing against parks, there are almost zero funds allocated to maintain them or even empty the garbage cans at them, they become hotbeds for the local homeless population.

I travel the area frequently for my job, and its sometimes jarring that you can go less than five miles out of Seattle and start seeing trump signs.

I've lived here my entire life and yes its true. People here are friendly on the outside but friendships are pretty rare, its very hard to connect with people. I warn people who move here but people dont believe me until a few months pass.

Some say it has to do with the large Scandinavian population that used to be here and thats where the offstandishness comes from.

Also all the tech industry people here (engineers, myself included) dont really help.

I dont know why everyone goes to Seattle, overpriced houses, horrible traffic. Seattle is actually a very narrow strip of land between the sound and a lake, its hard to get into, it cant grow out. You end up driving an hour to get anywhere. The only good restaurants are concentrated in downtown like 2nd and 3rd street. Who wants to go to downtown all the time unless you work there?

I live in Olympia, which has a lot better housing on average than Seattle's neighborhoods. Traffic is fine. Surrounded by lots of open country. Its really what I would expect Washington to be like.
