Any tips for running with a rucksack? I just started training with one and the only problem I have is that breathing becomes difficult when I put it on. Thanks /k/

Best advice I could give you would be not to run with a rucksack on, unless it's more backpack sort've shape/size than a proper, large ruck.

If you want to, beat suggestion would be to strap to fucker up tight as fuck and sort've shuffle rather than running, as in lift your feet the minimum distance, almost sort've scraping them along the floor. This minimises overall movement so your pack isn't pulling you rearwards and side to side.

All that said, I'm gonna stress again, don't run with a pack on, especially if it's weighted. You'll fuck yourself and the pack up real quick. Even in the military, running with a pack is done for a couple of hundred meters at most. Best of luck my dude, if you have any questions just ask.

Why would I reference the way the military does it if I don't personally know?

For what it's worth, that's the way the Australian Army does it. We don't have unlimited expendable fatbodies like the US so we value our hips, knees and shins a little more.

If you'd like to put 40kg on your back and run 10 kilometers, go ahead, how it fucks your shit up is your problem. Easy to talk shit behind your computer screen.
>>
just walk. if you want to go faster, walk faster. running will fuck your back up.

Sprint with an ILBE. Do it, I want to watch.
>>
Do not run with a ruck, it will fuck you up. Bad knees, bad hips, bad ankles.
If you want to go faster lengthen your stride, or do a shuffle which is faster steps where your feet barely go above the pavement.
>>
After years of infantry my friend came back with a herniated disc. But I don't know much about it other than what he told me.
>>
>>32961988
Pack everything densely with even weight distribution on the sides, tighten up any room for sway in your ruck. Get it as secure to your body as you can without obstructing blood flow or breathing. Shuffle run and lean forward using the weight of the pack to tip your balance forward a bit and slightly tighten your core. Minimize side sway and basically just kinda shuffle/run/lean forward. Go as fast as you can while preserving your endurance.

Every advanced infantry unit has to do several miles with 40kg+.

I don't recommend practicing, though. Get good at the basics and let the qualified trainers train you. Build to it.
>>
>>32963354
I said that wrong.

Train for it, but since you clearly know there's risk involved, me smart about it. Do cable-weighted leg raises and lunges, then weighted lunges. Get good at running, then doing inclined runs, then hill sprints.

It's good you're cautious about ruck runs. You should be even more cautious.
>>
>>32961988
in the military, the fastest we go is shuffling, which typically clocks in at about 12 miles/ 2.5 - 3 hrs. @ 65 - 90 pound sack (airborne shuffle)

There is no faster way to wear out your back and knees than to ACTUALLY run with a rucksack on.
>>
>>32964805
i should have noted that 2.5- 3 hrs is an expert infantryman standard. non-infantry were expected not to exceed 4 hrs.

Why do you want to kill your knees, OP?

Don't run with a pack on. Advise people you see doing this to avoid it as well.

It's dumb.

pack your heaviest gear high and close to your back, don't add padding to the outside of the frame you will get used to it, don't ruck 10 miles in 3-4 hours ruck 3 miles in 30-35 minutes when going up hill lock your knees out at the end of every step so you don't wear out your legs, never run up hill just take wide powerful steps, when rucking in the cold blow the water out of you hose back into the bag so it doesn't freeze, if you are on a forced long distance hump eat sugar and electro lights in super small quantities in fast intervals...that's everything off the top of my head

Hmmm. How successful has the u.s been at desert campaigns in the past? How successful has the aussie army been at desert campaigns in the past? What is a large percentage of australia?
>>
>>32961988
If you want to get good at rucking it's easy. Pack all your heavy shit high and close to your back. Also:
>squats
>deadlift
>run for cardio
>ruck heavy 65-80lbs for 3-4mi
>ruck light 20-35lbs for 8-10mi
>ruck with 45lbs up and down stairs for 2-3hrs
Av a good 'un.

Those fuckers are bullet sponges. Averaged out to like 10 rounds per bird. Thats 10 rounds of .303b through a lewis gun. It would be financially unviable to do such a thing

You can walk a 12 mile and still come in at 2:45. Nobody who actually knows what they're doing runs with that kind of weight. Only if it's for a selection or something

Honestly I would be more afraid of a large bird than a malnourished chink.

Do not run with a pack, you will regret it in the long run.
T.former 0311 with disability.
>>
I can confirm all of this. Am training, running on a beach with a pack is fine, but on tarmac its utterly retarded. Left knee still recovering, and that was a few weeks ago.
>>
Hey brother one of the best things to do for packing a ruck is to keep the weight high up and as close to your pack as possible. I was in ranger school in 2010 when the packs were 80 plus lbs...I failed out in FL phase but yeah. Weight high on the back is the best.
>>
>>32966805

>not knowing the Australians also lost that war
>>
In case you needed one more person to say it, don't run with it.
.
My unit actually would make us run. If bad weather meant the safety vehicle couldn't get up the roads then we'd do a 5k pack run, or at least a very quick jog.

I'm the same as this guy >>32966824
