Canadian here, I got 3 choices.

Ithaca 37
Remington 870 (80's)
Mossberg 500

Thoughts, tips, alternate suggestions?
>>
Ithaca 37. That sweet sweet slam fire. I just sold my 870, gonna get an Ithaca next. I'm a burger though, good luck leaf
>>
>>32961517
Always choose the Ithaca. What model/year?
>>
>>32961517
Ithaca hands down.
>>
>>32961517
only experienced the 870 so far, but it's preddy gud
got the 870 combo with the rifled barrel
>>
>>32961517
Ithaca
>>
>>32961517
The 80s era 870. Fit and finish are superior to modern versions..

the 500 to me just feels cheap and th ithaca loads and ejects from the bottom so no speed loads directly to the chamber
>>
>>32961517
>Ithaca 37
Oh my god one of these

Ithaca or Mossberg, current Remingtons are trash.

>>32961547
Ithaca shotguns haven't been made without a disconnect for quite some time, so you might have to look for and old one for that.

>>32961575
There's always the 590, or the 590A1, though they'll cost more, they're very nice.
>>
>>32961517
modern Ithaca is more of a boutique brand.
their standard Featherlight is comparable to the highest end Remington Wingmaster

if you're shopping vintage, again choose Ithaca.
old world craftsmanship
>>
>>32961645
>>32961700

OP stated the 870 was built in the 80s.

the parts quality and overall fit and finish will be great....better than the 500.

590(a1) wasnt an option

and agai...Ithacas are sexy, but loads from bottom only so no "speed/emergency reloads" directly to the chamber
>>
>>32961517

Come to America where it's not a hate crime to be white and you can own pretty much any gun
>>
>>32961575
I'm preferably a left handed shooter so it sorta is nice to eject from the bottom in that regard.

>>32961645
I'll have to look into 590/590a1

>>32961700
Yeah it seems so, I felt em up and liked the 37 the most, only downside I found was lack of interchangeable barrel, but I'd prefer to keep my first shotgun to pass onto my future son.

>>32961575
Yeah the 500 did feel really cheap, the pump especially felt cheap compared to the 37.

>>32961749
Good point, speed reloads might be one factor to wisely consider, even if comfortably shooting left handed results in some discomfort from ejected shells, I am intending to go right handed as well though.
>>
>>32961766
God yeah, I was considering getting a water/waste management trade, getting a little bit more bulk and then getting a green card and hitch with National guard for naturalization.
>>
>>32961770

you should be able to find a shell deflector for an 870.
>>
>>32961816
Yeah, very customizable I hear.

So far the 500 seems to fall short in a lot of aspects.
>>
>>32961798
good luck on that greencard m8
maybe you can find a nice liberal girl to marry for the card and then pump and dump
>>
>>32961890
agreed. ive been shooting shotguns almost exclusively for 12 years. ive seen trap shooters with 500s thaat dropped shells right off the elevator when they pumped lol.

it may be worth it to look into when Remington started making lefty versions.

their quality only started tanking in the mid 2000s or so
>>
>>32961940

protip: i live near Ilion, NY lol
>>
>>32961976
Yeah I'd probably pick many many states before NY or close to that area desu.

Ithaca definitely.
>>
>>32961994

born and raised...fighting the good fight though
>>
>>32962028
Can't blame a guy for that yeah, good seeds in bad lands.
>>
>>32961517
11-87
>>
>>32961517
Mossman
>>
Are winchester's new shotguns any good?
>>
>>32964218
The SXPs are made in the Philippines I think, but they're pretty good. They stopped production of the 1300s sadly, which are awesome.

The SX4s and 3s are good.
>>
>>32964255
How would you say an SXP stacks up against an M500 or R870?
