Looking for a decent lightweight combat boot for light packing, mountaineering, running and gunning, that sort of thing.
I was looking at the Lowa Zephyr GTXs, but was discouraged upon reading how poor their traction on wet or slick cement/rock. I plan on wearing them often.
Is there a boot out there offers the lightweight of the lowas with better wet traction for my oft-wet clime?

Danner's some good shit.

Do you notice an issue on wet sidewalks, tarmac, rock, that kind of thing?
kingshow, super cheap, super good boots. Don't be a mall ninja kid.
>>32961269
Only issue is on sheer ice, like over cement. Wet is fine, ice, not so much.

What?

For a while I regularly wore my old pair of Zephyrs caving
You will not find more slippery wet rocks, damp clay, or mud anywhere else, and they served me well
Phased the zephyrs out for rubber farm boots because I can wade in deeper water with those
I still wear my new pair of zephyrs for all of my hiking and backpacking activities
Don't overlook them unless you don't like the way they fit

I have a pair of Magnum Response III, and so far they've performed beautifully. Lightweight, though they don't look it. Plenty of support in the ankles and the arches. It doesn't have steel or composite toes, which is the only con I have found.
Hanwag Alaska GTX is a great pair of boots, but they're fucking expensive.
Best pair of boots I've owned in the past five years, that's for sure.
Although,

*Although, there's probably cheaper solutions that would fit you better somewhere.
tequila has done me in.

I have not noticed any appreciable wear after about a month of wearing mine 3 days a week. The rubber is incredibly hard

Bundeswehr combat boots with a modified Goodyear welt. Got mine unworn from varusteleka and put some dr. Sholls work boot insoles in them. Full leather upper made of 3 layers. Fucking c o m f y and at least as good as a pair of danners at 6 times the price.

mine are not very grippy on wet concrete. tolerable on normal concrete but on the polished kind it's a little bit of a slip-n-slide type thing.
Oboz, Danners, Salomon, Vasque, American-made Keens.
The oboz Sawtooths have been excellent intermediate weather hiking boots. The Salomons I tried were a bit heavier and thicker and were goretex for snow, very solid but don't get much use in NC.

My lowa zephyr gtx's were fine in wet situations when I was backpacking in washington...which you pretty much do nothing but wet rocks.
>>32961861
I've got a similar boot to this; the Lowa hunter evo gtx and they're amazing. Hanwag and Lowa are literally brothers. $335 after steep discounts and they're still pricey boots.

I've been going on some Danner Vicious models, they're pretty sweet boots. Can't really comment on the rest of their footwear, don't have enough experience

What the fuck did you just fucking say about me, you little bitch? I’ll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Navy Seals, and I’ve been involved in numerous secret raids on Al-Quaeda, and I have over 300 confirmed kills. I am trained in gorilla warfare and I’m the top sniper in the entire US armed forces. You are nothing to me but just another target. I will wipe you the fuck out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over the Internet? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of spies across the USA and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You’re fucking dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you in over seven hundred ways, and that’s just with my bare hands. Not only am I extensively trained in unarmed combat, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the United States Marine Corps and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable ass off the face of the continent, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little “clever” comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldn’t, you didn’t, and now you’re paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shit fury all over you and you will drown in it. You’re fucking dead, kiddo.

What in tarnation.
Since this is a boot thread, are they're any good hot weather surplus boots? I like my Austrian para boots cuz they where cheap as chips and solid as fuck. I was wondering if there was a similar good deal on desert/jungle boots anywhere.

Everyone told me basket weaving. I take care of my leathers but there's a limit. It's like the guys that use straight razors but try to make a lifestyle out of it and write books on being a "shaving aficionado" with a 50 badger brush collection. Yes that's a thing.
Any suggestions for boot insoles?
And speed laces? How long do they need to be?

I owned those exact boots. But I exchanged them for the water-proof ones and they are the best boots I have ever owned. Took them with me to Mount Whitney twice and they worked for me great!!

Palladium makes something similar for pretty cheap, they are a direct copy of the Israeli desert boot.

They are now the standard issue boot of the New Zealand Defence Force. They come with a hydrophobic paste that you slather on them, if you get it on the sole or edge of the sole it will work it's way down and make it super slippery.
When the sole is worn down a bit they have no problems in the wet.
Since joining I have done pack marches in:
Jungle Boots
Kiwi Combat Boots
Magnums
Lowas
The Lowas I have worn have the reliability of Jungle Boots and the comfort of Magnums. The only issues are what I said above, and you HAVE to change your socks and air the boots out, they have no ventilation and will grow shit in them.
I still go hiking in jungle boots though so... I dunno.
