So I wanted a nugget, but walked out with this. Yugo m48 mauser, went to another gun shop and 8mm mauser is pricey as fuck. I'm looking at the right ammo correct?

Great rifle. Congrats. You have the ammo right. Go to ammogarand.com they have decent prices on 8mm
you need an 8mm mauser yes. should be around a $1 a round unfortunately

Yeah so make sure you load your own. Also, you'd have to do this with nugget ammo sooner rather than later, so don't fret.
All parts are milled and matching. 350 wasn't terribly bad. 8mm is pricey as fuck so I'll probably reload my own
>mfw I went to the shop and S&B 8x57 was cheaper than S&B 7.62x54R

It's not the same and you'll always want a k98k.

Yes; 8mm Mauser = 7.92x57mm = 8x57mmIS. Learn how to recognize the different types of surplus ammo and keep an eye out at local gun shows and gun shops, and auctions. Surplus can still be found, and usually for quite a bit cheaper than new-production ammo.

Nice rifle Anon.

Nah, I like it. Cleaned the cosmoline off and I'm in love.

Watch for Turkroach ammo too, OP. That shit is pretty hot and if you fuck around too much with it it might fuck up your fine new rifle.

>That shit is pretty hot
It's the same as WW1 German S-Patrone; people just think it's hot-loaded because they're used to firing watered-down SAAMI-spec US-made ammo.
>if you fuck around too much with it it might fuck up your fine new rifle.
It can't hurt a Model 98.

Turkish and Iranian may be shit but it will work in a 98-patten gun without safety issues. You pointed out it may be a hot round, or they may be duds, or anywhere in between, but it won't blow the gun up or anything. It's crap but it can work for recreational shooting.
People are only told to avoid that stuff entirely for their semi-auto or full-auto guns.
