My edc blade. The steel plate was free so I use it as a target sometimes. I use my Leatherman wave or CRKT minimalist drop point for more demanding tasks, so I can have a nice edge if the moment comes I need a really sharp edge.

I don't post often in /k/nife threads, mostly in EDC threads.

I made the mistake of wasting money on a ZT instead of just getting another Kershaw. Spent $160 on a 0566BW and the damn thing came so off center it was touching the frame. Sent it in to get fixed and all they did was torque the pivot screw down till it was center, but completely impossible to open.

With pleasure. I'm a fan of that limited 940 as well. I'll admit the 940-1 in pic related is not mine, just had it in for sharpening... but, I'm a fan of the design. The only Benchmades I tend to like are those from Osborne and Lum... never got around to buying a Benchmade either.

I'm jealous, you have a Fallkniven Northernlights series. But 3 below that, the Japanese hunting knife, above the ESEE... What brand is that? A Kanetesune?

Also, are those two mirror polished knives from... I think it is Down Under Knives? An Australian company, have not looked at them in years.

Finaly, is that an original Enfield Bayonet? Restored? If so it's in the best condition I've ever seen. Mine (1907) is in great condition, but nothing near that.

Gransfors Bruk is always nice, I work with them a lot, but not own any personally.

Finally, what brand/maker is your Katana? Is it from Japan, or is it a custom, or a higher end production like Citadel?

the gerber guardian back up?
yeah that was one of my first knives. played Splinter Cell Chaos Theory in high school, loved the knife, looked up what it was based on, ordered it, and was severely disappointed with how small it was and how bad the sheath was.
I don't remember the factory edge. the shit sheath actually chipped the point, so I had to resharpen it myself.

it's a good thing I wasn't old enough to buy guns and didn't have much money, or I'd have wasted it on a Five Seven too

the Fallkniven is the smallest of the NL series, the Idun. it's great, one of my favorites.

the japanese utility knife is a Toyokuni. hammer finished damascus steel, convex grind, razor sharp. the blade is perfect but the handle is a bit big for an edc blade. I recently got another japanese knife by Ichiro Hattori that's a little more practical and have been edcing that.

the daggers are from Down Under Knives, you're right. the first I bought came with the tip rolled over. at first I was just going to send a scathing email to the retailer for shipping a damaged blade and just sharpen it myself. however I noticed it sharpened way too easy. I pressed the blade edge to edge against a cheap paring knife and the dagger was the one to take a nick, so I contacted Down Under to let them know the steel was too soft. they had me send it in for testing and they determined something was wrong with its heat treat. they sent me those two back and they've both been fine.

the bayonet is a Windlass repro, sold from and sharpened very nicely by Atlanta Cutlery. One day I'd like to order a new production Ithaca 37 trench gun for it, but with blued finish and checkered furniture like their other guns. something like pic related.

I wind up using the hatchet a lot more than I expected. it's so much nicer than trying to use a knife for certain tasks. it's still got a razor edge and I've never had to touch it up yet

the katana is a Cheness Okatana. Chinese, but good steel, sharp blade, well put together. hasn't loosened up any from practice.

that's a lovely bayonet. I wish old weapons of war like that could talk so we could hear their stories.
>>
>>32961343
Man that Cheness looks great, I'm farmilar with the brand, but I've never handled or seen one in person. Mine is a Raptor from Hanwei.

I am a fan of the Japanese fixed blade design, I asked if it is a Kanetsune, cause that's the only brand I'm familiar with. I have a Nishiki model from them.

Actually the reason I've not gotten a Down Under Knife is because I'm not a fan of the steel they are using.

I've thought about it before as well, when I hold the bayonet I wounder; "did this sit on a shelf somewhere for years, or was this used to kill a German?".
>>
>>32961481
Hanwei's are nice blades. In college I knew folks in iaido with Hanwei katanas and guys in fencing with Hanwei rapiers.

There's tons of Japanese knife brands and smiths out there. Most I learned about from virtuovice's youtube channel. He prefers American brands but has friends who collect Japanese ones.

>not a fan of the steel they are using
440A is shit but 440C is not bad. about like AUS 8 I guess.
3V is my favorite steel so far. the Hattori's Cowry X is supposed to be amazing too, but I've not worn it out enough for it to need resharpening yet.

I guess I'll ask, whats up with the longsword? I can't tell if it's a steel sword or a synthetic. I have a Valiant Armoury Rhinelander on order at the moment actually.

It's been a long time since I've watched Virtuovice's channel. He has great commentary on knives and flashlights though. I bought my EagleTac G25C2 partially on his suggestion.

Yeah I've always been just a bit wary of 440c... And also, I would not want to get a larger knife in AUS8a if I planed on using it out doors, which is what I'm gonna do.

3v happens to be about my favorite steel as well. I only have one knife in it though, my Spyderco Tuff. I need to get some larger chopper made of it to actually take advantage of it's properties.
>>
Guys is it really worth it to buy a Spyderco in VG10 as EDC if you don't know shit about sharpening knives and know even less about the methods used to sharpen VG10 ? Or should i buy some 420HC or 8CR13MOV scrub steel knife

... Is this your first frame lock?

All you have to do is take it apart, put some grease on that pivot, and then crank down the body screws and tighten the pivot (with blue lock tight) till it is just lose enough to open well. That should get things to line up. If that does not work, push the scales one way or another while assembling it to adjust centering, one of the problems with Stand Off assembly.

Hard to sharpen.jpg
631KB, 2048x1536px
>>32961840
Well first off, everyone who uses knives should start learning at lest the basics of sharpening. A cheaper method I see people using is to do the rough work on Oil Stones and then put the final edge on with a Spyderco Sharpmaker... I did this years ago before I got my Wicked Edge set up.

Secondly; if you can sharpen 420ch, you can sharpen VG-10, or s30v, and so on. It's just about knowing how to sharpen, and the harder steels just take more time and patients.

The hardest to sharpen steels I've personally done is CPM-M4 (extreme ware resistance) and ZPD-189 (64-65Hrc), but it really just came down to taking a lot more time. pic related.
>>
>>32961813
the longsword is the Legacy Arms version of the one that belonged to Edward the Black Prince.
the point is wicked. I can continue stabbing through water bottles even after they've drained. the edge sucks and I've never been able to get it very sharp. my next longsword will be a Valiant Armory Kriegschwert.

agreed on the flashlights. I got a Lumintop copper Tool in Nichia for EDC also on his suggestion. a single AAA battery, click switch, neutral tint, and it just looks stylish.

my 3V blades are the Bark River Bravo I and Lil Canadian

Charleston South Carolina or Texas? Oddly enough i got family by both... But nope, I live in South Nj not far away from Philadelphia.
>>
>>32961840
I actually think it's easier to learn to sharpen with the better steels.
sure it takes longer but if you screw up a little it doesn't mess up the edge as much. I got good with just an S30V blade and a flat diamond hone in high school.

honestly the soft steels are difficult to put a good edge on. too shallow of an angle and they roll
>>
>>32961937
Yeah but the thing is i'm not quite a knife guy or anything and i'm only looking for a <2.5" blade folder for everyday tasks so i don't know if it's really worth it for me to buy the whole package with stones, oil, ceramic rods and all that other stuff.
I'm probably going to sound like a peasant to you but what about those small X-shaped sharpener that can fit in your pocket ? Wouldn't that be enough for me and some lower end steel like those i've mentioned above ?

Hey I think we've talked before... Either that or another anon has a Kriegschwert on order. I was considering that one, but I like the styling on the Rhinelander better.

I personally never got into AAA lights, part of the reason I carry a light, besides mostly utility, is self defense. Being able to put 1,000Lm (maybe with some Mace) in someones face as I run the other way is a rather under appreciated strategy I think.

I really like the BR knives, just never got one. I've been eyeing up their 3v stuff, actually both of those models. How you like the lil Canadian?

>>32962000
I highly recommend not going for a pull through sharpener. They have a major problem, in that the carbide ones, just rip the carbides out of your edge, it leaves it jagged, which feels sharp, but dulls extremely fast. And the Ceramic ones aren't bad, but are very fine and more like a finishing touch.

I highly highly highly recommend the Spyderco Sharpmaker. They are very easy to learn to use for beginners, work really well, and you can build on it if you get into it. Yeah it's $60, but think about it as an investment of never having a dull knife again. Heck I still use mind for Serrartions, even though I've got over a grand of sharpening equipment... Oh and for good entry level knives, may I recommend the Kershaw Skyline? The base model is $40 and one hell of a knife. My favorite is the CF/s30v one, but not everyone wants a $100 knife.
>>
>>32962058
I don't have a Kriegschwert on order yet. One day soon hopefully.

AAA is perfect for me. I've got plenty of rechargable ones and I keep a spare in my wallet. I've never considered a flashlight for defense. The last time I had neither a gun nor knife on me was high school. A metal pen was my only defense and it sucked. Some senior once got me in a sleeper hold and I jammed it into his arm to the point it drew blood, but it certainly didn't stop him. fuck being unarmed.

The Lil Canadian I got last year. I was looking for a fixed blade that would be small enough to edc, tough enough for any task, sharp enough for defensive use, and usable in a reverse edge back grip like a Pikal. the steel is great and the blade shape is very usable but there's limited grip room in the reverse hold. I had to dull the first half inch from the base of the blade to keep it from cutting my hand like that. the blade being so tough made dulling it a bitch too. I didn't edc it for more than a month or two before I was able to get the Hattori, so I've been carrying that instead since then, in the lil canadian's sheath.

the Bravo 1 is also good. the Ironwood handle started out very vibrant but got dark after a while. it's slicker than the curly birch of my Helle knives or the curly maple on my lil canadian.

Helle are very underrated imo. sharpest blades out of the box of any I've ever seen, beautiful and ergonomic handles, mirror polished, and priced well to boot.
>>
>>32962276
Yeah good luck with the sword. VA seems to be the go to mid range brand for European swords.... and because of that there is quite the wait. I've been waiting 8 weeks and it should be 4 more. I wish Dark Sword Armory weren't so sketchy. After the Rhinelander, it may be years between swords (7 years between my Katana and this VA), I'm looking into Lockwood, as a good Albion alternative that comes with a sheath for the same price range.

I've never payed much attention to Helle either, idk why, even considering the local hunting/sports shop I go to up in Maine (live there in the summer) actually has Helle knives. Normally Fallkniven and Mora get all the attention from that area. My cousin even bought one this summer, but I forget the model.

I need to look more into Helle. I have to say though the Fallkniven nl1 is like a grail knife of mine. You are the first person I've talked to who owns a NL.

another bad and shitty thing about pull throughs, is that they cut into the side of the blade, more than they remove from the edge.

I had this smelly old sex offender at the gunshow bet us that he could sharpen anything at his booth wiht his magic pull through piece of shit. it left a giant gouge into the sides of the big blade on my leatherman supertool.
>>
>>32963416
Yes they are beautiful, and very well made. But I will say, my Nishiki came with a surprisingly thick convex edge, I was expecting thinner, but it was still very sharp.

>>32963436
Nah, well in sorts, yes. I live in Maine for 2-3 months in the summer. And part of my job up there is downing trees, clearing brush, and I split a lot of wood.

I know a lot of Foresters, and they all swear by Gransfors Bruk, I sharpen for them. I personally use a Snow&Neally Hudson Bay ax. You don't need big felling axes really with Chain Saws.

And lel, I've not seen that Monty Python skit before.

I'm going to get myself a Nishiki, they just stir something in me. oddly enough, they look like the knives my going generations back grandfather brought over from germany in the 1740's that are some of the family heirlooms along with his Cuirass, and his Matchlock.

I was beaten within an inch of my life when i was 12 for fucking with the bigger knife. it hadnt been sharpened since the 1920's and I used an arkansas stone and an early ceramic dogbone rod, took an edge like a fucking champ. i bet if i was better at sharpening i could have turned it razor sharp in the same time.

i wiped it down with oil, and put it in the case. they were leaving all the metal stuff to dryrot away. and i thought all of the gear deserved better than that. he was a big fucking man with how large that cuirass was, even discounting the gambeson he would have worn under it.

Yeah, luckily i got it for 300. Dude at the gun show was cool as fuck and gave me a great deal on it considering the only places that have it online are asking 400+ for them.

>>32964002
It's okay, we can't all be uncool poorfags but thanks for taking that place for others. I'll be over here with my cool OTF switchblade.

Bought one once off a buddy for $300.

Really cool at first (despite being illegal to carry in my state) but after some continued use, it had a hilarious amount of blade play. You could shake that thing and see the blade move left and right.

Sold it and bought a 940-1 and it's been much better.

Thanks for the advice man,i'm pretty new to all this.I'll consider the sharpmaker sometime in the future and ditch the idea of a pocket sharpener then.As for the Skyline,it's a little bit too large for my taste.Any insight on the Kershaw Amplitude or the Gerber Ultralight LST ?

Not antifa. It's some MTV show.

>On "Sweet/Vicious," Taylor Dearden and Eliza Bennett play a pair of wannabe vigilantes who seek to bring justice for victims of sexual assault on their college campus -- basically superheroes without capes who also have to go to class.

Do you guys register your knives or do you fear it being tracked to you incase you have to do something to defend or save yourself but don't report it and technically you did something illegal but morally you were right but explaining it in court of normies is difficult?
>>
>>32967904
>register your knives
with whom?
>>
>>32961010
Orher way around anon.
>>
>>32961010
Uh...the white shirt is the shop keeper, why would the shop keeper worry about witnesses and steal the gun and cash from the drawer...he didn't even have a key, he used the knife to pry the drawer open.
>>
>>32967627
...greaaaaaaat.
>>
>>32967921
Benchmade has a pet program.

I imagine you can send in your knife for warrenty service or maintence without registering...I prefer sharpening my own knife but the manual says it will void the warranty.
>>
>>32967246
Manufacturing mistakes happen at just about any price point, it is inevitable. Unless this a common problem with the 0566, which it's not.

So far mine have been close to perfect, and completely comparable to every other knife I've handled in the $200ish price range.

idk how a few examples of a mass production company can prove anything good or bad.
