Why can't even pro-guns shows do guns right?
>>

IIRC the slide didnt even move when Vito dropped Jackie Jr.

15 years later and this scene still trolls me
>>

It's a prop that looks so stupid that I can't believe HBO not only used it but did a closeup of it (that is the scene, it's not a zoom in.)
Like, ok, I get, save money, use props. But why zoom in on something that is obviously fake?

for the likes of us, yes.

for normies who aren't into firearms, it's just a pistol and they're not concerned with who makes it.
>>

anything Walking Dead.

Watched "The World Wars" on History Fucking Channel and the brits, amricans, and germans all had No.1 mk. IIIs....they all reloaded by swapping the box mags

except when they showed young Hitler...he had some random rifle and just shot for 5 minutes, no reloads
>>
>>32953384
To be entirely fair, most of the Ring of Fire guns look that shitty anyway, so it's not a huge stretch for suspension of disbelief
>>
>>32953459
>>32953542
It just surprises me from HBO more than anything. HBO has always been pretty good with their props, especially shows with guns.

Are you saying they didn't get guns right? In which case you're wrong.

Or are you saying they had godly weapons handling? In which case, you're right.

I remember that episode

Rip in peace Jackie Jr
>>
>>32953329
I love the Sopranos but yeah, the gun stuff was pretty bad most of the time. Really stands out on HD rewatches. Those non-cycling semi auto handguns just baffle me. Why not just use regular blanks? Do the casing not eject like real ones?
>>
This EXACT same prop gun was used in Breaking Bad too.
>>
>>32953998
At least in that instance its a kid holding it.
The OP's gun was used in a close up execution of a main character.
>but maybe it was to avoid injuring the actor!
Except the gun is fired in one scene, then there is a hard cut to the character falling dead in snow. They could have shot those two scenes months apart. There was no reason to use such a terrible prop gun.
>>
>>32953329
when CIA shoots his usp on the plane you see the hammer fall but slide doesn't cycle, then when he goes to pop bane before throwing him out of the plane he had to cock the hammer because the slide never moved

>>
>>32953998
I think that use of the prop is justified, since it's a kid holding it. Looks like a shitty zip gun. My local police seize shit like slambangs and little homemade .22LR pistols all the time from underage Nortenos.
>>
That gun is an ISS prophouse flashpaper non-gun, it's used when you need to shoot close enough to someone that a blank would be dangerous, or where laws or noise ordinances prevent one from using blanks

http://www.imfdb.org/wiki/Non_Guns
>>
>>32953329
It's a non-gun
Specifically this:
http://www.imfdb.org/wiki/Non_Guns#Non_Descript_Pocket_Pistol
>>
>>32954671
Why do a closeup of it though? I understand using it in fast moving stunts but in a closeup?
>>
>>32954732

Because normies wouldn't know it's a fake gun either way. I haven't seen the show the picture is from but I assume the zoom in is supposed to show the threat of violence and death on whatever character we're supposed to give a fuck about. Contain your autism for a moment and realize that the show is not for firearm enthusiasts like you.
>>
>>32954752
Some of those are pretty decent replicas that could pass for it. Some of them are fucking terribad.

Still, something I did not know, and the more you know.
>>
>>32953384
eases the intelligent viewer's stress, considering a man is pointing what might be a gun at someone.

but then, no it's all in good fun, it's fake.

I actually liked that scene, made me like the Sopranos a bit more too.

Don't point guns at people.

This has been explained before

>proximity of the muzzle to the actors
>the rules of the studio regarding child actors
>the rules of the insurance company, either they don't allow it or have special rules/premiums for it
>city laws, state laws, country laws
>the opinion and input of the kid's agent, or the rules of his casting agency
>the input of his parents
>the kids own input (perhaps he isn't confident he'd safely handle it, perhaps it's a really young kid)
>the on-set armorer's input, and the rules of the company who owns the blank firing guns
>the director or producer's input

There's like a thousand reasons why a kid on set is given a non-gun with a flashpaper load instead of a real blank adapted firearm, and finally, it doesn't look entirely authentic to anyone into guns, but it doesn't have to, it has to look like a gun, and after that the flashpaper and editing does it's part.
>>
>>32954102
Probably because that wasn't a real gun or there was no blank loaded.
There's bigger goofs in that movie.

>>32955274
The schlocky movies that manage to outschlock the original videogames even at their schlockiest was full of dumb and schlocky shit?

>>32956465
I'm more offended that they keep making them, if they stopped at like, 2, I'd be fine with that.
>>
>>32957669
for that scene, it would work if they gave the kid a deactivated firearm too. Just cut the follow up shots, since the first shot didn't show him holding the gun at all.

Basically, have the kid magdump on him, THEN show the reaction, and him holding the gun. Rather than a single shot out of shot, then reaction, then follow up shots.
>>
>>32953329
I'm pretty sure that's a flashpaper gun. They're used in scenes where an actor has to fire point blank at someone.

And?
https://youtu.be/3tEYcUSQDyw
>>
>>32957833
See >>32957669

>>32957866
It doesn't strictly need to have sights, it's a device with an electric trigger to set off a flashpaper load, shaped like a gun, so that any time you need to film a scene with a gunshot, but for whatever possible reason can't use real blanks, you use this. Ideally you wouldn't show it in a closeup but not all directors know or care.

The fact that it doesn't quite look real can arguably be seen as a safety feature, as it would allow an armorer on set to identify it at a glance.
They're pretty fucking careful when it comes to blanks these days, people have died on set from sloppy safety and handling in the past (most notably Brandon Lee).
>>
Here's the scene in question.

https://youtu.be/Z8UJh7cRezg?t=52s

They took 3 takes. One from in front of Jackie Jr with Vito approaching from behind. One close up of Vito pulling the trigger, and one of Jackie falling into snow. There was no reason to use a shitty prop gun for the closeup. That scene could have been shot days after the actual execution scene. It's only Vito's hand and the gun itself. No proximity to Jackie Jr unless you're one of those people who think stuff is filmed in order.

Ring Of Fire was a moniker the ATF gave to a series of firearms manufacturers (derived/split from a larger one) who produced incredibly cheap small caliber pocket pistols.

The common theme is that they're based on the Raven MP25, a very cheap .25ACP pistol made mostly from Zamak (zinc alloy) parts, reliability is poor in every way, failures to feed, extract, eject, fire, short stroking, the breech blowing out, any failure you can imagine, it happened.

The pistol was initially developed by a guy after his friend, an FFL, complained about new legalities that stopped him from getting Röhm revolvers from Germany (incredibly shit revolvers by a tool making company, famously used in the attempt on Ronald Reagan's life), they were really cheap so they were an easy sell. The goal of the MP25 was to be as cheap, if not cheaper. Zamak is a very cheap alloy, frequently used in Hotwheels toys, and these guns were mostly made from this.

Raven Arms went out of business from numerous lawsuits, mostly relating to people being injured, paralyzed or killed by the MP25 sometimes tripping it's sear when the safety is worked, and sometimes firing if dropped on the floor.

From Raven Arms, numerous ex employees and family members went on to sell copies of the MP25, Jimenez, Davis, Bryco, these are some of the companies who made these (some still do), often in .22LR, .25ACP, .32ACP and .380ACP, some are even in 9mm Luger, which is hilarious given how even .380 is way beyond what these things can handle.

One company went out of business after a mysterious factory fire, another had a change of management after the owner was jailed for child pornography charges.

So these are obviously quality firearms by quality people.
