There's currently a petition to repeal the NFA and basically loosen all our current gun laws.

https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/repeal-nfa

With a conservative majority and trump this might pass.
>>
Spread this to everyone, it's at like 88,000 signitures right now.

Armchair lawyer here, so disregard at your leisure, but this assuming only the NFA goes and not fopa, wouldn't that make all machine guns banned then? The NFA made the mg registry and made unregistered mgs illegal. Fopa closed the registry and made unregistered mgs illegal. So if we get rid of NFA, there's no longer a registry, but unregistered mgs are still illegal. So basically, all mgs then.

Either that or I'm retarded. Probably the latter. I browse here after all.

Made me physically fucking ill that the next most signed appeal is for Trump to "release his tax returns," or whatever the fuck, as though that'll prove anything.

Yeah, he's fucking rich and he used every tax loop in the book to stay that way and pay basically zero taxes. Woah, mind = blown yet?
>>

>Yeah, he's fucking rich and he used every tax loop in the book to stay that way and pay basically zero taxes. Woah, mind = blown yet?

I think he does not want to release them because it would show how little money he has, I bet he's not a billionaire and just plays one on tv

>>
>>32945782
>self-finance nearly his entire presidential campaign

um, he didn't

He raised like 300million of other people's money, cashed in a SHITLOAD of his assets and only came up with 66million of his own money

I very seriously doubt he's the mulitbillionaire he claims to be or he would have thrown another few hundred million at it like clinton did
>>

And on that he won. Now for the part of unfucking our country somehow.

>>
>>32945850

he won and spent like 200million less than hillary, but remember hillary was winning in the polls till the last second and got 3million more votes than trump did

If trump were a multibillionaire in that situation he would have outspent her without a thought

my only point is i think he lies about how much money he has and that is why he won't release his tax returns, ego

he already admitted he basically does not pay taxes anymore after a huge writeoff he took years ago, nobody cares about that

people would however be shocked to learn he's only worth 200million though

he already admitted to not paying taxes

oh and the hughes amendment is not getting repealed any more than the petition to get trump to resign is going to work

You're forgetting that the rich millionaires who own tons of pre-ban machine guns stand to lose a lot of money if NFA is repealed. Why do you think Republicans haven't pushed for this before? They don't want their rich friends having shitty investments

That's what most ITT don't understand. If we repeal the entire act in one swoop then it will only give antis many more scapegoats. "They're making short barreled ARs LEGAL, they're much better for killing children" imo, hpa then slowly chip off the nfa till it's useless and then abolish it.

I need a petition to repeal lautenberg amendment

*allegedly* 10 years ago my dad caught me drinking when i was underage and threatened to call the cops on me, so i drunkenly grabbed the cell phone out of his hand and he started punching me in the face hard enough that i saw stars and i caught one of his punches and bit his finger.. supposedly

mom allegedly called the cops instead when she heard what was going on and when the cops showed up they took the drunk teenager to jail instead of the old man with a bleeding gash on his finger

well i woke up in jail barely remembering what happened and my mom bailed me out and actually paid for my lawyer.. the lawyer said that i had to attend rehab classes and the case would be "dismissed" and off my record. Neither the judge or attorney ever mentioned I would lose my firearm rights. Luckily I never lived in a house with firearms or anything because I could have gotten hauled off to jail for 10 years.

Well its not off my fucking record. Anyone who does a background check on me just sees Domestic Violence and assumes i am a woman beater. And i cant own or buy a firearm ever in my life! :'(

The only hope I have is to someday get enough money to make a sizable campaign donation to a governor (or Trump lol) and ask for a pardon, but I live in Europe anyway now. But yeah I even have a perfectly fine relationship with my parents now.

feels bad man

With as much as youtube channels like MAC, IV8888 ect, are shilling it, We should have it in the bag in just a few hours because it was at 84k last night at this time
Now the one question I've had for this is would we be getting full autos as well with SBR, SBS, AOW or do we still need to go after Hughes for that?
>>
>>32954519

Hughes only prevents new full autos, that's about it.

The only reason I'd be worried about repealing the Hughes is that it has a provision that prevents the feds from ever having a registry for non NFA items.
>>
>>32954519

I dunno. Striking down the NFA would remove the registry entirely, and Hughes prevents post-86 MGs from being registered.
>>
>>32954631
Thats not part of Hughes that if FOPA, hughes is just about full autos and is an amendment that was illegally added to fopa with a misscounted/noncounted voice vote and can be striped out as such.

>Thanks to Obama

No, thank Harry Reid for that. He's the one that used the nuclear option to remove Republican obstruction of Obama's appointments.

And now that decision has come back to bite the Democrats in the ass. They never expected to be in this situation.
>>
>>32957627

Reid only got rid of the 60 votes option for confirming judges (except SC Justices).

Right now, 60 votes are needed to pass anything.

Senate can use Reconciliation to pass budget-related bills, but that option can only be used once a year. Senate will use it this year to gut Obamacare, and reform the tax code in 2018.

If GOP wants to get rid of NFA, then McConnell will have to pull a Reid and get rid of the 60 vote threshold for all bills.

People dont really seem to understand how this site works.

Making your petition goal does not garuntee action, it mereley is stated by the white house that it "will warrant a response."

It doesnt mean they have to take action, or even that they are required to respond, they mereley state that they will only reply to petitions that reach a certain threshold, they never state that they are required to respond either, only that they MAY if they so choose.

Most responses to petitions in the past have been evasive and incredibly slow to arrive.

I think its neat that folks are expressing interest in this, but I really dont think it will generate any action, the chances it even generates a formal statement are low, much less legislative action.
>>
>>32960267
>Making your petition goal does not garuntee action
>it mereley is stated by the white house that it "will warrant a response."
Is responding a subject now?
We know that it doesn't mean the NFA will be repealed, but very easily could get the ball rolling.
And get the ball rolling in the highest office in the country.
And that office is the one that controls the ATF, which enforces the NFA.
No legislation needed.
>>
>>32959999
Well, quads confirms, so long ATF! Time to start saving up
>>
>>32959964
Federal agencies are terrible because they dont answer to their constituents.

A local police force is held directly accountable by its people and has to atleast make halfassed attempt at being fair and even handed lest they face direct political backlash.

As the Fast and Furious scandal showed, the ATF can refuse to answer to congress, and hardley even answers to the president (the president had to order the a subpeona on the records to the case, to which the ATF replied they had been "accidentally" destroyed).

The biggest problem with the ATF is that they dont answer to anyone but themselves, and are able to defacto enact laws without democratic approval by mereley re-writing thier definitions of how they interpret the law.

In short the ATF has bypassed being a law enforcement agency and functions more akin to its own defacto legislative body.

They are not concerned with the law, they are concerned with building and protecting their own power base.

The NFA is a racket for the ATF to generate revenue via fines, and it gives them power to enact laws outside of the democratic system by its overreaching and vague structure, as well as the retarded amount of power they have to determine for themselves what it actually covers. Add this to open defiance of congressional orders and subtle defiance of the executive branch and you have a 5th column heavily armed extremist group.

No wonder they go after anti-gov militias so hard, they dont like competition.

Here's a non-meme answer.

Congress has been dragging their feet on every single goddamned thing it does for over a fucking decade, since the Democrats declared war on Dubya. The Trump administration has been pushing for the Senate in particular to get off their lazy behinds and finish confirming Trump's cabinet so they can get to work. Anything that shows broad, material support for a Trump legislative goal, whether it's a letter writing campaign, a WH.gov petition, or a trending Twitter hashtag, gives our boy in the Oval Office a bigger stick with which to beat Congress into submission. Is this likely to actually lead to a complete repeal of the NFA? No. Is it likely to help Trump dislodge the logjam in Congress and help us get other shit we want like the HPA voted and signed? Yes.
>>
