I once had a police surplus Smith & Wesson 3000 shotgun. It is practically a copy of a Remington 870, but was made for S&W by Howa in Japan. Solid shotgun OP

Howa still sells bolt actions but tbdesu I don't know shit about them and if they are made here or there.

Some of the AR18 rifles were made by Howa, I saw one on GB sometime last year for around 1500 I think.

I've looked into that, and they seemed to recycle everything in last ditch for WWII, minus fucking Tanegashimas. Even Muratas were converted to shotguns.

If you want surplus, then there are Howa M1 carbines made for the Thai police made post war. It's unique to other M1 or M2 carbines in that the bayonet mount is directly on the barrel, although most in the US have had their cut off due to clinton.

You can find them for around 700-1000 bucks

Japan manufactured Auto 5s for Browning, accounting for the bulk of production from 1975-1998. That may be what you are thinking of.

Howa and Miroku both import sporting long guns at least as previously mentioned.
There are other various older imports manufactured by both available as well but I don't know how commonplace they may or may not be or specific models.
