>mfw Cairo and Damascus almost got glassed

What's your favorite "We almost started a nuclear war" moment?

Read Command and Control, it covers all the scary shit that happened with nukes during the Cold War. It's a great book in general actually.

>implying glassing some of the most liberal and least religious locations within several hundred miles fits your crusader fantasy
At least nuke Mecca and Medina or something

Source on that? I get to hear about this all the time, but it always seems to end up as just some kind of a conspiracy derived out of the "Samson Option" thought experiment.

"According to a former senior CIA official, who also spoke on condition of anonymity, Dayan sought an urgent meeting with Prime Minister Golda Meir and secured her authorization to arm 13 intermediate-range Jericho missiles with nuclear warheads. Eight F-4 Phantom fighter aircraft were also to be given nuclear arms, former senior U.S. officials said"

http://www.upi.com/Yom-Kippur-Israels-1973-nuclear-alert/64941032228992/

IIRC the Israelis intentionally leaked or made it apparent to the US that they were preparing the nukes so that Washington knew they weren't fucking around.
>>
>>32930637
Not really close but during 9/11 a nuclear training exercise meant led to this exchange.
As soon as we landed, Mark Rosenker [director of the White House Military Office] and I went off the back stairs. There’s this guy who looks like General Buck Turgidson from Dr. Strangelove, big guy, all decked out in a bomber jacket. He was straight out of central casting. We said, “What do you need?” He said, “See those planes? Every one is loaded with nukes—tell me where you want ’em.” We look over and there are just rows of B-52s, wingtip to wingtip.

The sun is billions of nuclear wars every second, it just wants us to stop slacking off and start trying.

One of the most important people in the history of this timeline is the guy that didn't report a possible nuclear attack because he was unsure. It turned out to be geese or some shit.
>>
>>32932409
If you read the article in >>32932289, you'll see the first, and most dangerous alert, was when Israel was losing ground. I'd imagine the probability of the Israelis glassing the Egyptians and Syrians when they'd already BTFO'd the would be pretty low.
>>
>>32932202

It'll just be Israel.

well shit then, I was hoping they were thinking of just glassing for good measure. but it does make sense they thought of going nuclear when they were losing, though a steep decision

Nah, the Jew's were stalemating with the kebabs during yom kipper, which means strategicly they were losing.

Impressive, but not a complete BTFO the six day war was.

They needed a tech advantage, and the us was still butthurt about the USS liberty and trying to calm down a room of nignogs barfighting. The Arabs had both a tech and numbers advantage, so they knew they would win if they just ground down the Jew's.

So the kikes basically said "fine, don't help us. But shits about to get real nuclear real fast". They know that the US knows that nukes between two proxies going at it means the USSR will give nukes to the loser, Jew's get nuked which means that it could esculate to Europe, then the ussr, then the US getting all Einstein on each other.

So the US stepped up, and gave them state of the art....everything. losing the tech advantage, the Arabs predictably got btfo, because da juice actually knows how to fight.

You would see a nuclear race with every medium size country getting nukes and/or picking the USSR or the USA.

This, there cannot be a closer call.

>Later that same day, what the White House later called "Black Saturday," the U.S. Navy dropped a series of "signaling depth charges" (practice depth charges the size of hand grenades) on a Soviet submarine (B-59) at the blockade line, unaware that it was armed with a nuclear-tipped torpedo with orders that allowed it to be used if the submarine was "hulled" (a hole in the hull from depth charges or surface fire). The decision to launch these required agreement from all three officers on board, but one of them, Vasili Arkhipov, objected and so the launch was narrowly averted.

Absolutely fucking terrifying, watch the Fog of War.

Great movie. It becomes clear in the film that MacNamera had no idea what he was doing and way in over his head as Secretary of Defense.

children conflating entertainment (propaganda) with actual history is why we can't have nice things. also why socialism is winning over liberty.
>>
>>32930658
Damascus has more history than your whole country combined.
Fucking idiot
>>
>>32935594
I don't even know what you're trying to say. MacNamera did an objectively bad job in the Johnson administration. U.S. strategy in Viet Nam was a complete joke.

I can't tell if this is bait or you're just a Trumpkin that didn't learn his history.
