ITT we try to put a pastebin together?

I'll start with jm custom kydex
I bought a jm custom kydex aiwb holster for my p30. Didn't work out too well. It was too large of a gun for me to carry in that spot and sit comfortably.

good quality holster, well constructed, well reviewed, and the pricing ($70) is middle of the road, but fuck me sideways the lead time is ridiculous, it took 10 weeks for me to get the holster.

kydex holsters are all very similar because it's hard to fuck up a kydex holster. what really matters is price and lead time.

gun shop faggot here, I've worn holsters from just about any manufacturer you can think of. Same thing with my co-workers.. I also speak with many customers about this stuff all week long..

Holster manufacturers I recommend:

L.A.G. Tactical (excellent value, generally convertible iwb/owb also comfy appendix)
Bravo Concealment (great OWB holsters, DOS is nice iwb or appendix)
T-Rex Arms (good appendix light bearing / rmr cuts)

Companies I don't like but others swear by
G-CODE
Alien Gear
Galco
>>
Lifehax. A Desantis M&p shield iwb holster will actually comfortably hold a large variety of pistols. My 1911, glock 19, glock 20, and Px4 all fit it.

Safariland ALS type holster for glock 19

Very intuitive locking system to use, practice drawing a dozen times and you're already a pro and it doesn't impede the speed of the draw whatsoever

Biggest con is that the safarisuede liner swells when it gets wet, and makes drawing it probably 5x harder, although not impossible. If I had to depend on this holster, I'd be finding a way to peel off that liner, or looking for other Safariland holsters that don't have it.

Raven
Comp-Tac
Crossbreed
Safarialand for duty

There are a million other brands I can assume are just as qualified as there's crossover in ownership and assessment, G-code comes to mind - never owned, but can practically guarantee it's g2g

question what camera did you use for this and are those steel replacement sights? i myself prefer the glock sight picture and use steel glock style sights

>>32929016
g-code seems to make nice holsters but in my experience they are over-engineered to some degree. for instance my co-worker carries a g43 sometimes at work and the damn thing is heavier than the gun lol. also, i did not care for how bulky and poorly executed their (10 week lead time) appendix light-bearing rig was..

Just an iPhone 6. When the lighting is right and it's properly in focus it can take a pretty sharp picture.

Those are the plastic factory Glock sights. Another thing I forgot to mention, that safariland holster chewed up my front sight a little bit.

Characteristics of a good holster: (no particular order)
1) Fit
2) Finish
3) Function
4) Profile
5) Comfort

Those are my standards, the brands I list score high in all of those. Ignore Safariland for this as I'm not a cop and all I know if my blackhawk duty shit is garbage compared to my safariland stuff.

Is that useful? It's a hard conversation, kind of like trying to explain to someone how to draw (like sketch) it's hard to articulate but easy to illustrate.

tell you the truth trying to find a way to carry an x300u light on my 19 comfortably has been a struggle. it is uncomfortable in a vehicle with a seat belt, otherwise not so bad. probably 4pm is the answer. actually i have not been carrying the x300 lately, instead wearing pic related a galco triton my co-worker gave me. (i know i said i didn't like galco earlier, this is the exception. great holster for appendix or 4:00)

>>
>>32929460
I believe they are just called soft loops. On this particular holster, I really have grown to love these over plastic clips. They are placed at just the right ride height and the rig is very comfortable.

That holster is a Galco Triton, which is for a G17 and fits G19 - my friend however modified it. It is cut to the length of a glock 19 which is nice. it still works with a 17, the muzzle just hangs out a bit.
>>

well, I have a usp now, so I've given up entirely on aiwb for the moment.

Savoy is the bees knees.
>>
>>32929692
I have a usp full size. I'd use it for mostly gear queer innawoods or uspsa, but I'd like to carry it until I get a smaller and lighter pistol (glock 26 probs)

so, a really low profile OWB would probably be ideal. I also like wearing tight pants (I got a big ass and big thighs, so everything is tight pants) so IWB just doesn't work as well for me

Falco owb retention holster

Construction is pretty solid, no deformation. It was very fresh leather; still had some moist dye on the nap and that wonderful lye smell. Took significant amount of break-in, especially the backstrap. The button isn't comfortable against bare skin but it wears very easily and holds close to the body with a good belt. Be careful with this company because orders take upwards of 3 months to ship from Czech Republic. Their customer service was helpful and offered me a refund after the holster was "in transit" for 2 months but it finally materialized. I'm happy with it but trying an American company next time. The extra $5 for a Galco or a smaller custom shop is easily what I would have paid to get the holster on time.

Also owned a Bianchi Serpent (discontinued?) leather owb retention holster. The leather wasn't as thick or fresh but it was serviceable. Sold that one after a month but it's a good option if you can grab one at a discount.

AIWB musings:

An appendix holster should have one or more of the following:
a) A belt wedge to lever the grip into your stomach (think JM Custom Kydex, Garrity Invictus, JRC Leather Watson Special);
b) A claw or similar mechanism at the belt line to lever the grip into your stomach (think RCS Eidolon, 5 Shot Leather SME);
c) A muzzle wedge to push the gun into your stomach (typically a foam velcro attached pad)

Everything else is basically a straight drop holster. If you want to get away with concealing a full-sized pistol at the appendix position, you'll need one or more of the above features. Others may work just fine for smaller guns (<5" in height).

The claw has become common as of late. Some companies are using kydex to make them, while the smarter ones are buying the RCS injection molded versions. The kydex claws will break on you and should be avoided.

Skinner guys usually have better luck with claw designs than wedge designs.

Trex Arms and their clones are "what the fuck were they thinking" tier (see pic related). Skip them.

Kydex options (type) (with lead times):
- Keeper's Concealment Keeper (wedge) (~8 weeks)
- JM Custom Kydex (multiple variants) (~6-8 weeks as of 02/2017)
- Dark Star Gear AIWB (claw) (2-4 weeks for Glocks, unknown for others)
- Raven Concealment Eidolon (claw) (stocking item)

Leather options (type) (with lead times):
- 5-Shot Leather SME (claw) (forget about it)
- JRC Leather AIWB-CDA II (claw) or Watson Special (wedge) (~8-12 weeks)
- Garrity Gunleather Invictus (wedge) (1+ years, possible bad business practices)
- Desbiens AIWB #4 (claw) (<1 month for $10 rush order charge)

>>
>>32930429

I would re-write this:

>GENERALLY SPEAKING: go with kydex. Leather deforms overtime and a shitty leather holster can lead to negligent discharges and a case of glock leg

It's... misleading.

Key points:
1) Leather must be reinforced in order for you to be able to safely reholster. Kydex always stays open.
2) Leather, particularly poorly-formed cowhide, can collapse over the long term (think years). Exposure to water can speed this process up.
3) Kydex can crack, particularly at belt attachments and other points where the belt puts tension on the holster. Belt attachments should be metal clips, soft loops, or injection-molded polymer wherever possible.
4) Good leather is more expensive than good kydex, is harder to find, and will almost always take more time to get.
>>
>>32930395
I like mine a lot as well.

>>
>>32930535

No, one's not necessarily any better than the other. I personally think Tony's claw designs are a bit too wide, whereas Tom's new holster is very trim.

I've owned holsters from both. They're both very high quality makers.
>>
>>32930535
I prefer the metal clip Darkstar Gear uses but I think JM offers that as an option.
>>
>>32930514
JM custom lead time: 10 weeks, for a piece of molded plastic
TT Gunleather lead time: 4 weeks for a piece of fine hand-stitched leather

The Glock trigger safety is designed specifically to prevent what you're talking about from happening. People make that criticism all the time on the basis of a single image that gets reposted constantly. Not to mention, there is rarely a need in a CC situation where you need to reholster quickly. That's just not realistic. Draw quickly, yes, but why would you need to reholster quickly into a CC holster?

I got to your ALS line to post this.

Okay ALS on it's own is not for cops or duty.

Current Duty gear is more active retention, Safariland COP stuff is usually lvl 2 or 3 retention - there are no names for these systems just numbers, the best way to describe ALS is it's an active retention, quick release minimalist system applicable to many out side the waist band holsters

some people are pretty happy with the mastermind tactics belts but i have no personal experience with them

personally im not a aiwb mag pouch guy. too hard for me to conceal a clinch pick and the mag up front
>>
>>32930660

Dude, I've been through so many belts...

I currently use a Beltman, which is a conventional leather gun belt. I carry a Clinch Pick or a TDI at 11 o'clock and a G17 at 1:30.

In the past I've used the various Wilderness belts but they don't interface as well with my current holster. I've also used an Aegis buckle style, but that thing prints more than any gun will on my frame (5"8, 155lbs).

When I carried a magazine IWB at 11 o'clock (JM Custom Kydex mag pouch) I was using either the Beltman or the Aegis style. Both times, the tongue of the belt ran over the clip and presented no issue.

The Wilderness style (get the frequent flyer) should solve your issue for the excess webbing.

>>32930654

I actually agree with you mostly, though I don't think the trigger safety is 100% foolproof for obstructions in the trigger guard. I think the concern for deforming leather is overblown on here (seriously -- there are dudes with 20 year old Milt Sparks holsters still going strong, and those are mostly cowhide...). Having said that, a cheap leather holster that isn't reinforced or otherwise hardened can and will collapse more than I'm comfortable with when carrying a Glock. So, I buy horsehide or very high quality cowhide.
>>
>>32930765
>The Wilderness style (get the frequent flyer) should solve your issue for the excess webbing.

What belts are you guys wearing to go with these holsters? I have some cheap ass $20 belt from Target but it makes everything sag with my holster riding on it.
>>
>>32930993

Leather:

For leather, get something with 7/8" hole spacing and not 1". More adjustability is a good thing.

Basic recommendations:

Webbing:
Atlas G-Hook slim ($50)
Wilderness Frequent Flyer ($35)

Leather:
The Beltman ($80 for bullhide quick ship, which is fine)
Any leather holster maker worth a damn (??)
Saddleback Leather Tow Belt ($100)

Biothane/whatever:
Maxpedition Liger - (~$60)

I personally don't buy into the need for a super stiff belt. A 5-stitch Wilderness is about optimal for me for flexibility vs. support, as is a broken-in leather belt.
>>
>>32931053

Are there any options for retention on those kydex holsters?

As a cop who's snatched shithead's guns off their waistbands when we have to go hand to hand, it's always too fucking easy. If you go hand to hand with someone you're practically giving them a gun. Right now I've opted to put a thumb break on a nylon holster but these things tend to be thick and low quality. What are some options for a kydex CC holster with retention for either a Glock 26 or FNS compact?
>>
>>32931153
pretty much nothing that's concealable IWB. you might be able to get a OWB holster with a thumbbreak

idk what your experience is with grappling over a gun in a kydex holster but it's definitely not as easy as snatching one out of a guy's waistband.

>>
>>32931153

At best you'll find some available with a thumb snap, and that isn't optimal.

For the CCW holder, concealment is a form of "retention," but it has its limits (Zimmerman). As a cop you've got to worry about some dude recognizing the gun in-fight (or pre-fight) and zeroing in on it. We don't.

The concerns you bring up are a reason I prefer leather, along with overall durability (you aren't breaking a solid horsehide loop off my belt). With kydex, once the gun is past its molded in retention points, it's basically sitting in a slick gun bucket. With leather, the holster will retain the gun by friction to some extent. That, combined with a bit of knowledge on retaining a gun and grappling, is what I rely on.

I have a P320C, and while it's most likely not as heavy as your CZ, it's still a beefy fucker.

Are their kydex ok? I'm looking for a good glock holster for owb for behind the hip.

That doesn't add up. I think there's a mistake somewhere. Belts are measured like anything else, 1.5" is a 1 1/2" belt.
